I'm drawing a line. Tomorrow is a new start for me. I'm putting myself first for the first time ever.

Things starting from tomorrow:
I'm completely avoiding the news.
No more doom scrolling.
Deleting all social media.
Get back into running.
Stop eating processed crap.
Completely declutter the house.
Start volunteering.
Spend more time walking and gardening.
Try and find a solution for my crippling anxiety.
Stop trying to please everyone.

I’m in! I so need this.

The good news is that I have already left Insta and Facebook and life is great without both. Audiobooks are my new obsession.

I am exhausted everyday, unbelievable so this week. I need to add exercise and remove the volume of processed calories in my every day.

I want/need to manage mindless spending too.

So, to keep it simple:

  • Walking 4 days per week to begin with
  • Log calories daily
  • Logging money / spends everyday
AdmittowearingCrocs · 06/10/2024 21:27

I’m in too.
Just taken early retirement from a very high pressure career that burnt me out completely.
Now want to sort my house out, lose weight and do some exercise.

gretathegremlin · 06/10/2024 21:35

I can get on board with this.

I don't think I can bring myself to completely get rid of social media, but I have made it less visible to myself. All notifications switched off and all apps tucked away in a social media folder. I check when I want to - mostly this is Facebook and most of my interactions are with certain groups (I had a big cull of groups a while back). I rarely look at Insta or X now.

We must be on the same "sort my shit out" page OP.

I rejoined the gym this week. I plan to get back into strength training.

I pulled my big girl pants up and made my annual diabetes check up appointment early, even though I know I haven't been looking after myself properly in recent months and probably deserve a bollocking. I'll tackle whatever my results are head up.

I'll be starting to eat better, aiming for a green Mediterranean diet most of the time (80/20 rule) to try and get those glucose levels back on track.

I also finally made an appointment for next week about going onto HRT.

I'd like to start spending more of my mindless binge watching time reading a book and just getting outside more.

Tomorrow is the first day of my hopefully healthier life.

Well good luck everyone. I'm doing the weekly shop in the morning. Less prepared foods and more basic wholesome ingredients. I'm aiming to have 5 or 6 different simple meals that are cooked from scratch but are easy to prepare, and that everyone loves. E.g roast chicken & veg, pasta salad, casserole, homemade pizza.

Jacket potatoes with lots of salad is a good one to stick into general rotation. Easy to make and cheap!

Hello.
I am Placemarking

Fakepower · 06/10/2024 23:29

I'm starting tomorrow. I am totally fed up of being fat.
Bring it on !

Applesandpears23 · 06/10/2024 23:41

Hello, I would like to join you. I joined a gym at the start of Sept and I am trying to go twice a week to start with. I had a blood test and found out what supplements I need and am a week into taking them. We’re cutting down on spending and holidays and decluttering and redecorating the house room by room. I am also doing exercises the physio suggested to fix a couple of physical problems. I feel it is hard using self discipline in so many areas at once.

Duckingella · 06/10/2024 23:43

I hear you on the anxiety front;makes me worry about everything and affects me physically and mentally;I've decided im going to bite the bullet and contact my GP this week.

I’m joining you. My worst habit the amount of time I spend on here to be honest. I really need to delete MN!

I've actually managed to wake up early. It's 5.30am. Usually I drag myself out of bed at 8am, the latest time possible, to wake dc to leave for school at 8.30am. I had intended to go to the gym today but I've got a throat like cut glass and a slight temp. I'll get up around 6am and power hoop for an hour then start work (wfh) and then wake dc, school run etc. Let's just hope I don't fall back to sleep now, which is a risk and would be a waste of waking up early. A first for months.

Fakepower · 07/10/2024 05:43

I have cancer so I need to make sure I'm not pushing myself too much but also need to be disciplined. Day 1 today of healthy eating. No sugar, carbs, junk. I'm done being fat

MsTeatime · 07/10/2024 07:28

If you're scrolling Mumsnet on your phone you can set screen time limits by app and website to keep a lid on how long you spend mindlessly browsing it. I've just put mine back in place.

Fakepower · 07/10/2024 08:41

update: I was up at 6.45am and by 81.5 am (only 15 minutes later than the usual time I literally drag myself out of bed), I had hooped for 45 mins, unloaded/reloaded the dishwasher, had a warm breakfast (scrambled eggs, no butter, and ham) to set me up for the day and started some work. Feeling SO much better than if I had hauled myself out of bed at my usual time.

This is the first time in MONTHS I have managed to get up early.

Now to try not not snack for the day. I will have lunch and dinner. no snacks.

Love this thread! Can I ask, how many of you drink too much on a daily basis? I ask because I feel this is what's holding me back on a massive scale and I need to stop..... But I don't want to! 😅

Me!!!!!

Allthehorsesintheworld · 07/10/2024 09:00

I’ve just declutterred the house. There wasn’t a huge amount but I feel so much better for just having taken 7/8 boxes to charity shops. My house looks and feels completely different.
Good luck OP.

InterstellarDrifter · 07/10/2024 09:07

Me!
I need a reset as I've wondered off into the abyss of too much social media and scrolling, too much snacking, not enough exercise, and just generally feeling lethargic and glum about life.

Today -
Go for a walk
Read my book that I haven't picked up in 2 months
Have soup for lunch and dinner (need a diet reset too and I made a soup with veg and beans over the weekend for this week)
Quick clean
Vits
I'm working from home so I can't do too much more

AskingQuestions45 · 07/10/2024 08:43

How do you do that please?

In android hold down on the icon then click the app info button and you'll have an option list with screen time come up and you can set it in there. For websites you use the browser and set individual site limits so in my case I hold down on the chrome icon to do this.

MsTeatime · 07/10/2024 09:12

I'd imagine apple have their own system if you're an iPhone user there will be a guide online somewhere.

AskingQuestions45 · 07/10/2024 09:19

I’ve got an iPhone and don’t use an app for MN. I’ve browsed for ways to limit my time but if I’m not using an app there doesn’t seem to be a way?

quirkychick · 07/10/2024 11:59

I find if I start the day OK, it helps - I'm a morning person (especially after having dcs) and have most energy earlier in the day. Despite dd2 having a meltdown in the night:

I got up, did some yoga,
headspace for stress
journal/list plan for the day: emails, decluttering,
walked dd2 to school

I've been doing intermittent fasting for ages, so will fast till lunch today (if you're new to it, I would gradually push later the time you eat)
I have some leftovers, chicken satay as basis of lunch and taken some fish out the freezer for dinner. I try to eat protein + plants as the basis of my meals, as it makes me feel better, fuller and helps maintain muscle. But I'm not super strict.
