Best last song for a funeral

After a very serious brush with death (on a ventilator and family told to say goodbye) I thought it best to leave my husband instructions for my funeral. It will be a cremation.
I have a very dry sense of humour and can make an innuendo out of pretty much anything so don't hold back as I want something that will make people smile.
For the last song so far I have Things can only get better and Stevie Nicks Rooms on fire.
Fire away!!

My neighbour’s husband died. He was religious, attended church but didn’t like the vicar and made his dw promise he wouldn’t carry out his funeral. She chose cremation , humanist service and the last music was the Wurzels Combine Harvester. Some very disapproving clucking from the church friends but it was lovely to see my neighbour smile as she remembered her DH.
mixed with the home grown flowers on his coffin were veg from his beloved allotment too.

Feelingleftoutagain · 03/10/2024 13:10

My son wants dwarfs to sing grandma got run over a reindeer - he wants no sad faces

MrsMoastyToasty · 03/10/2024 13:11

"Who wants to live forever " by Queen.

PoorUncleBarry · 03/10/2024 13:12

I'm a devout Catholic so I'd want As I Kneel before you, Ave Maria and then Proud Mary because the church knew what they were doing when they took me in.

Elderberrier · 03/10/2024 13:12

It wasn’t the last song but I went to a funeral of an older female friend who had ‘Only women bleed’ by Alice Cooper played. Just cause she loved it I think. I found it quite funny.

Doseofreality · 03/10/2024 13:12

If you want to go really inappropriate, “Smack My Bitch Up” might do it.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 03/10/2024 13:14

My friend always joked she'd have "There She Goes" by The Las. Her husband only went and had it. It was a bit of lighthearted relief after "Beautiful Girl" by INXS which had me in tears.

GentlemanJay · 03/10/2024 13:15

I'm having Oh Lawd I'm on my way by Louis Armstrong.

Mumofteenandtween · 03/10/2024 13:17

So Long, Farewell, Auf (can’t spell it!), Goodbye. From The Sound of Music. Even better if you have 7 friends / family to do some actions!

HappiestSleeping · 03/10/2024 13:24

When I was an engineer, we did "the best funeral album in the world....ever". Some of the highlights were:
Status Quo - Down Down
Crazy World of Arthur Brown - Fire
Trammps - Disco Inferno
Bruce Springsteen - I'm On Fire
The Doors - Light My Fire
Johnny Cash - Ring of Fire
Prodigy - Firestarter
Blue Oyster Cult - Burnin' for You
AC/DC - Highway to Hell
Chris Rea - Road to Hell
Bee Gees - Bury Me Down By The River

There were many more. Apologies, it was dark engineer humour.

maybeinanotherlifetime · 03/10/2024 13:26

I personally want “it’s my life” by Bon Jovi

IDontDrinkTea · 03/10/2024 13:28

I went to a funeral where the coffin was carried in to ‘hey fatty bum bum’ which gained a few laughs.

if it’s a church affair, I like ending on ‘we will go out with joy’

I knew mumsnet would come up trumps- just off to start a YouTube session now.

A former colleague of mine had ‘Going Underground’ by The Jam.

CointreauVersial · 03/10/2024 13:35

Aww, great thread!

My uncle went out to the sounds of The Dam Busters (he was a WW2 pilot). My stepdad had a Derby County football supporters song, which definitely put a smile on everyone's faces.

Shodan · 03/10/2024 13:35

For my Dad's funeral, the last song was the theme tune from The Great Escape.

He was a huge fan of war films and it seemed apt 😁

Radiohorror · 03/10/2024 13:36

If ever I leave this world alive by Frightened Rabbit.
A friend had Dancing Queen which made everyone smile.

Ginburee · 03/10/2024 13:38

Why did I start with Inc's, that might be the middle song, but I also like the waterboys whole of the moon. Even the band didn't know what it was about!!!

Letsnotargue · 03/10/2024 13:40

My friend had ‘Enjoy yourself it’s later than you think’ which was really nice, and apt as she was only in her 40s.

MummyJ36 · 03/10/2024 13:41

I went to a lot of funerals as a child (a number of sad losses including my own dad) and it would have been wonderful to have had a happy/funny song play. I’ve made my husband promise he will play something amusing at my funeral if I go before him.

A song I heard recently that felt like a good contender was “Rave In the Grave” by Aronchupa 😂
