Best last song for a funeral

After a very serious brush with death (on a ventilator and family told to say goodbye) I thought it best to leave my husband instructions for my funeral. It will be a cremation.
I have a very dry sense of humour and can make an innuendo out of pretty much anything so don't hold back as I want something that will make people smile.
For the last song so far I have Things can only get better and Stevie Nicks Rooms on fire.
Fire away!!

I don't know if it's been suggested yet but my mum wants "going on up to the spirit in the sky" at her funeral.

"Who wants to live forever " by Queen.

Ot “The Show Must Go On” by Queen!

I booked Don’t Stop Me Now years ago!

I think for a serious song I'd go for:

Highwayman by The Highway Men

For a song to lighten the mod and remind people of me, it'd be:

Die With Your Boots On - Iron Maiden

My friend was 18 when she passed and obviously majority of people were around the same age and I always remember 18 years later the song, which was don’t worry be happy. It brought a smile to my face then and still does now

HNRTT but
Leaving on a jetplane

Classic Northern soul oldie.

Slavetomycat · 03/10/2024 19:18

For my DM we had Dancing Queen as we left the crematorium. She was, and it felt really fitting and made us all smile.

My DD always said she wanted Spirit In the Sky. She got it. 💔

This will be outing to those who know me, but I've asked for Don't Fear the Reaper at mine. I threaten my mum with Ding Dong the Witch is Dead.
There's also:
Highway to Hell
Down Down Deeper and Down
Another One Bites the Dust
Staying Alive
Dumb Ways to Die

We’ve just had Pretty Woman at my mum’s graveside

It was her favourite film, but we weren’t sure whether the hooker connection was appropriate in church! (Thankfully it wasn’t a problem!)

I knew someone would come up with this. It has to be the worse funeral song ever. It basically says ‘I didn’t give a toss what people thought because I knew better.’
My father liked this song and he was not a nice person.

My dad was lovely, your dad was your dad. They could both just like the song. The song says I lived my life how I wanted to and I'm content to go now. Your interpretation is flawed. The Sex Pistols also did a version for the more punk infused.

Have you read the lyrics in full? It is all about being a big important man!

I take it your Dad didn’t go with the Sid Vicious lyrics?

Can't you see that is your interpretation based on your personal issues with your dad. The lyrics are here:

Which ones are causing you the most bother? It's a pretty classic song

Ain't no stopping us now - McFadden and Whitehead. I want everyone smiling and dancing out of the crem

I personally want “it’s my life” by Bon Jovi

I've been to a funeral that had this. It was brilliant, everyone sang along. It was perfect for the deceased who always loved a good laugh.
They also had Spirit in the Sky. So much better than sad songs or hymns.

The song makes me cry as it is, it would send me over the edge at a funeral!

FrangipaniBlue · 03/10/2024 23:10

Bon Jovi - Sleep When I'm Dead

MerelyPlaying · 03/10/2024 23:12

Went to a funeral where the last song (chosen by the person themselves) was ‘Fever’ by Peggy Lee. A great song. Not sure if it was intended by him, but as the coffin slid out of sight Peggy was singing ‘What a lovely way to burn’. 🙄

WorriedRelative · 04/10/2024 00:12

Not sure about end music but I fancy being carried in to Barwick Green (better known as the theme for The Archers). Or maybe the BBC Horse of the Year Show music (Mozart's a musical joke).

Both sure to put a spring in the step of the pallbearers!

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 04/10/2024 07:58

I'd like the theme to The Detectorists to come in, and Bring Me Sunshine to go out.

No not just my interpretation. The BBC programme Arena called it a
‘Hymn to self delusion’ which Sid Vicious had picked up on.
