Best last song for a funeral

After a very serious brush with death (on a ventilator and family told to say goodbye) I thought it best to leave my husband instructions for my funeral. It will be a cremation.
I have a very dry sense of humour and can make an innuendo out of pretty much anything so don't hold back as I want something that will make people smile.
For the last song so far I have Things can only get better and Stevie Nicks Rooms on fire.
Fire away!!

Someone's already mentioned it but my Mam had "Who wants to live forever" by Queen as the last song at the crematorium.

We had a Catholic Mass before that. She wanted "To Jesus' Heart All Burning" as one of the hymns because she thought it was amusing as she was going to be cremated. But my Dad blocked it in the end and we didn't have it. He wouldn't have "Immaculate Mary, our hearts are on fire" either so we had a different Marian hymn instead which was also on my Mam's list.

If ever I leave this world alive by Frightened Rabbit.
A friend had Dancing Queen which made everyone smile.

My niece has all my funeral instructions. I'm having Dancing Queen too!!

Deathraystare · 03/10/2024 13:52

My Unjcle - a goons fan had the "Yin tong" song.

Burning down the house? Talking Heads.

One of the porters at my hospital had Eton Rifles but then he was a Jam fan.

If you are in London and a Clash fan then London's Burning. I would probably go for that!

idrinkandiknowthings · 03/10/2024 13:54

My daughter's father was a petrol head and had the theme from Top Gear playing as we left the crematorium. He was a shit but I still found that mildly amusing.

A former colleague of mine had ‘Going Underground’ by The Jam.

Spat my drink all over my phone. 🤣

Don't know why I can't stop laughing - it's verging on hysterical.

H is definitely having that one. ☝️

Incakewetrust · 03/10/2024 13:57

My sister has asked for 'Ding Dong the witch is dead'

I've chosen 'if I ever leave this world alive' by Flogging Molly

PlacidPenelope · 03/10/2024 13:59

Someone I know had 'Great Balls of Fire' by Jerry Lee Lewis, another had 'Bat out of Hell' by Meat Loaf (motorbike reference was pertinent).

PlacidPenelope · 03/10/2024 14:00

I've chosen and re-chosen my funeral songs several times!

twomanyfrogsinabox · 03/10/2024 14:08

My MIL had chosen, 'We'll meet again', which sounded fantastic with the acoustics of the church, so atmospheric.

Musicaltheatremum · 03/10/2024 14:11

My friend's husband went out to the theme tune to ski Sunday. Went down very well.

My husband went out to "In christ aline, my hope is found"

I would need a whole musical to choose my songs but "who wants to live forever" sounds great! And I love "always look on the bright side of life "

cuckooclock78 · 03/10/2024 14:13

We had Knockin on Heavens Door by Bob Dylan for my Dad

BilboTBaggins · 03/10/2024 14:15

I've been thinking of asking for Living in a Box by Living in a Box. Either that or Tubthumping by Chumbawumba - the one that goes... 'I get knocked down, but I get up again
You are never gonna keep me down'

That piece of music is called 'Jessica' I think.

I was at a young colleagues funeral recently. Great guy who loved music. He had Electric light orchestra, highway to hell and finally the final countdown. At each song he had a friend intro it and why it was being played. Funny stories that you couldn't laugh at.

He left a video message explaining the last one and while it was of course sad, having his humour present on the worst day was such a comfort to his family. So it really will be what's your song.

workplaceshenanigans · 03/10/2024 14:20

Yellow Submarine is on the list at the moment.

Maddy70 · 03/10/2024 14:22

She. Elvis Costello

Perfect

GeorgeCrabtreesAuntBegonia · 03/10/2024 14:28

My mum went out to Rocking all over the world by the Quo and my father in law requested, and had, The final Countdown by Europe.
My husband wants Schools Out by Alice Cooper. I haven’t completely settled on the exit song but I’m definitely having Funerals by Fascinating Aida on the way in. I’ve had a good life and, much as I don’t want to leave it, I want my funeral to be upbeat and lively. Come to celebrate my life, don’t mourn it.

Flowery57 · 03/10/2024 14:36

I went to a friend’s funeral last week in a small country church and he had chosen ‘Simply the best’ by Tina Turner 🥰

RedWinePoliticsAndHair · 03/10/2024 14:39

A colleague died young and had time to plan his own funeral. He had 'Step On' by the Happy Mondays as his last song in the crem. Raised a smile.

annonymousse · 03/10/2024 14:42

My dad had the 1812 overture complete with cannons.

NeverTooEarlyForChocolate · 03/10/2024 14:43

I want the Eastenders theme tune, but I’m a soap fan!

SophiaSW1 · 03/10/2024 14:45

My relative had "Smoke gets in your eyes" as their coffin went behind the curtain for his cremation.

NannyGythaOgg · 03/10/2024 14:55

I've told my (adult) kids, that I want George Ezra's 'Green Green Grass'

KnittedCardi · 03/10/2024 14:56

My lovely next door neighbour had "Fat Bottomed Girls" because she was. She was great. Still miss her
