Best last song for a funeral

After a very serious brush with death (on a ventilator and family told to say goodbye) I thought it best to leave my husband instructions for my funeral. It will be a cremation.
I have a very dry sense of humour and can make an innuendo out of pretty much anything so don't hold back as I want something that will make people smile.
For the last song so far I have Things can only get better and Stevie Nicks Rooms on fire.
Fire away!!

My great uncle had ‘I do like to be beside the seaside’. I thought they’d put the wrong tape on at first!

muddyford · 03/10/2024 18:04

'Chariots of Fire'.

CoastalCalm · 03/10/2024 18:07

Remember Me by the wonderful Diana Ross

May the Circle Be Unbroken

Carter family version or Pentangle

Or 'when I die you'd better second line' but that's in my fantasy in which somehow I am accorded a full New Orleans jazz funeral!

My friend had ‘Enjoy yourself it’s later than you think’ which was really nice, and apt as she was only in her 40s.

Live this.

When my Gilbert and Sullivan loving FiL was cremated, he went out to ‘Tit Willow’ from The Mikado.

I hate it when people have " jolly " songs at a funeral. It feels awkward and a bit upsetting to me.
I went to one where they played ' another one bitescthe dust' at the end and it just felt really disrespectful to me.

How can it be disrespectful if the person chose it for their own funeral? Or do you think this is another one of those events in life where it's ostensibly about the couple getting married / the baby getting named / the funeral of the departed but really people make it about themselves and what they think?

My mum went out to Rocking all over the world by the Quo and my father in law requested, and had, The final Countdown by Europe.
My husband wants Schools Out by Alice Cooper. I haven’t completely settled on the exit song but I’m definitely having Funerals by Fascinating Aida on the way in. I’ve had a good life and, much as I don’t want to leave it, I want my funeral to be upbeat and lively. Come to celebrate my life, don’t mourn it.

I love Fascinating Aida - that would be a great song. If you wanted to totally miss the point and be rude, Dogging would also be good!

Steady as she goes - the raconteurs
The kill - thirty seconds to mars
Cold as ice- foreigner

HangDai · 03/10/2024 18:21

We left my Dad's funeral to Always look on the bright side of life with the scene at the end of Life of Brian projected onto the screen as per his wishes.

Saved the day, it was horrifically sad aside from this, and everyone walked out whistling along.

Was not in a church though obviously.

I'm just saying how I felt

An aunt of mine had ‘Wish me luck as you wave me goodbye’. It was so her the congregation was in stitches. 😂

EvelynBeatrice · 03/10/2024 18:28
