Best last song for a funeral

After a very serious brush with death (on a ventilator and family told to say goodbye) I thought it best to leave my husband instructions for my funeral. It will be a cremation.
I have a very dry sense of humour and can make an innuendo out of pretty much anything so don't hold back as I want something that will make people smile.
For the last song so far I have Things can only get better and Stevie Nicks Rooms on fire.
Fire away!!

I knew someone would come up with this. It has to be the worse funeral song ever. It basically says ‘I didn’t give a toss what people thought because I knew better.’
My father liked this song and he was not a nice person.

My FIL wanted this on his gravestone!

Never Forget - Take That.

The lyrics are quite apt & the tune rather uplifting.

TinyTear · 03/10/2024 16:56

Nick Cave - Death is not the End

But i don't want a funeral, give my body to medical science, dump me somewhere, don't fucking waste money on me when I am gone. My family knows if they want something, get me a bench in my favourite spot

Carol52 · 03/10/2024 16:56

My dad had wish me look as you wave me good bye from Grace fields I loved that he also had white cliffs of Dover

notprincehamlet · 03/10/2024 16:57

The theme tune to Dinnerladies.
I don't know why 🤔

Bigearringsbigsmile · 03/10/2024 17:00

I hate it when people have " jolly " songs at a funeral. It feels awkward and a bit upsetting to me.
I went to one where they played ' another one bitescthe dust' at the end and it just felt really disrespectful to me.

My wonderful 78 year old aunt had Firestarter played at her cremation. She wanted us to smile after all the crying.

I want the Eastenders theme tune, but I’m a soap fan!

Dotn know if anyone else has suggested (not read full thread as yet), but please go for the 'Julia's theme', go out as a true soap character!

There is an exceptionally annoying muppets song that my partner and I sing to each other with changed words on a daily basis, and have been doing so for three years solid.

That’ll raise some eyebrows.

I did have a 29yo friend have the muppet’s theme tune as the closer after some hardcore niche indie band songs and stunningly thoughtful tributes. Everyone left the church cry smiling. It WAS the best possible end - he was deeply into his puppets. He created a terrifying puppet character of his own :)

I would say don’t go with what seems graceful or appropriate. Go with what you fancy or love.

I might write some Mary Poppins or Willy Wonka songs into my funeral just bc I love them and they never fail to make
me happy.

Yeah, I’m 49. Shrug!

LittleGreenDuck · 03/10/2024 18:00

I'd like "Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay"

My MIL had chosen, 'We'll meet again', which sounded fantastic with the acoustics of the church, so atmospheric.

Aw
