Think the Draken is just sitting at the airport.

There are a couple of L-159 ALCAs (small fighter type aircraft) operated by the Draken company on the ramp at Teeside ATM.

With my picky ex-spotters hat on - I’m going to have to point out in the olden days there was an Swedish fighter aircraft aircraft that went by the name of Draken..but there are few if any to be found in the wild these days.

I'm amazed at Draken I was reading about it last night

A wonderful rabbit hole. One of their contracts is Providing an aggressor squadron for wargames for the US airforce. Who knew.

https://www.flightradar24.com/FORTE13/3761a35b

The FORTE13 for anyone intersted.

If the flight radar info is correct I think that’s the same tail number as the one that went eastbound last night..given the type’s loiter time it’s quite possibly only just going “home” after a hard night and day at work….

Fairly quiet tonight. Just like to say how amazing so many Mumsnetters are interested in what's going on up there. The only other person I know is my friend's teenage son 😂

Edited

I have a particular interest in other aircrafts (mainly air ambulances, I'm a big admirer of the work they do inspite of not being funded by the government and yet they are such an essential service that work alongside our NHS ambulance services etc), but it's also interesting to see what the USAF/RAF etc and general commercial airliners are up to, especially if I can hear there is a lot of traffic going over, I get a bit curious as to what it is.

I can 8/10 times correctly guess which air ambulance is going over me based off the sound of it and it's flight pattern/direction nowadays (I'll often check after on the app). Is that a bit sad? 🤣

Why did all of @Rass responses get deleted?

Bloody hell - just had a look on Flight Radar!

What are we looking for? Not sure how to read flight radar. How do you know what type of plane? Or that there are more military ones than usual?

A wonderful rabbit hole. One of their contracts is Providing an aggressor squadron for wargames for the US airforce. Who knew.

From way back in the Vietnam era the USAF had their own in-house Aggressor squadron that simulated Russian tactics and provided training for USAF and other NATO Air Forces, both in the US and also around Europe..I had dealings with them several times over a period many many many years back and it was a very interesting experience.

Draken took over a lot of the work when the USAF outsourced most of that training to the private sector.

@MiniSatchelContents we wharf them
Last night and looked at flight radar

Typhoons are triangles and go fast!

When you click on them it shows they are military or draken and their call signs

Cobra 041 is moseying around over Norfolk/cambs

Cockerpooslave · 03/10/2024 21:22

Lots going on off the coast level with Dundee

PauliesWalnuts · 03/10/2024 21:29

Not sad at all @MoonlightMemories - I am in north Manchester and don’t get much in the way of military traffic but the heavy traffic does sometimes fly past if on the way back to the US, Canada or Rejiavik. I can tell a turboprop from 30,000 feet!.

PauliesWalnuts · 03/10/2024 21:31

That Canadian Herc at 8,000 feet off the coast of Hull is going to be making quite a racket.

There’s a couple of KC-135s up, one abeam Scarborough and the other off the east coast of Scotland…I’d guess that means there are some USAF fighters around but they are not showing on Flightradar.

deste · 03/10/2024 21:43

We had the same in Moray two weeks ago, night maneuvers with helicopters.

Haha no not sad at all ☺️. I also know how it sounds, often goes right over my house, we have one based here in Norwich. It's a different sound to the many other helicopters that fly over going out to the rigs. I always have a look on the app where it's heading off to. I work at the hospital so often hear/see it coming into land. Think I first got into all this from looking out for the Red Arrows and it just went from there

UmberBalonz · 03/10/2024 22:17

MADRAS66 is a great name!

Cruserweight · 03/10/2024 22:38

Anyone watching? A quieter night but quite a few about.

larklane17 · 03/10/2024 22:47

I'm having a look. I can see TRIPLE32 Typhoon around Grantham. I don't recall the name from last night.
Oh and WARLOR!4 there also.
Over Peterborough now. I cant type and keep up!

larklane17 · 03/10/2024 22:53

Canadian Hercules over the sea near Hull

DeliciousApples · 03/10/2024 22:55

I see we have one flying in circles above Campbeltown from Brize Norton.
