Not sad at all @MoonlightMemories - I am in north Manchester and don’t get much in the way of military traffic but the heavy traffic does sometimes fly past if on the way back to the US, Canada or Rejiavik. I can tell a turboprop from 30,000 feet!.

I can tell a turboprop too, they're so loud and seem to reverberate in my ears even when they're well past.

We get big planes flying from Brize Norton out to Europe over us, there's often one a day that goes out to Germany or Poland and comes back that night.

I am happily addicted to Flight Radar 😂 So frustrating when it isn't on there or ADSB though. We stayed in Norfolk recently and could hear all sorts going on, but nothing on the radar 🤦

MiniSatchelContents · 04/10/2024 07:39

How do they stay off the radar? I know it's probably for security reasons but can they select to stay off?

Flightradar and the other ADS trackers rely in information transmitted from aircraft via a device called a transponder.

Turn that off and the trackers can't see the aircraft.

I confess to watching all my family from take off to landing when they go abroad. 🤭

I was able to let my sister know when the inbound flight she was waiting for to return to the UK was approaching Malaga😁

We were tracking her on her return flight and DD wanted to go out the back and wave to her. We did and actually saw her plane.

My sister thinks I have too much time on my hands!

DanielaDressen · 04/10/2024 16:34

Just saw the Canadian air force pilots coming out their hotel earlier. They’re staying pretty much next to my workplace! 😁. Not sure if they were going back to the base ready for more night flying tonight.

notimagain · 04/10/2024 16:51

There’s a bit of an old joke cracked by members of the other services about Air Forces (various) not flying after Friday noon and certainly working weekends..

Be interesting to see what happens later.

BringBackSunshine · 04/10/2024 18:05

There’s currently a Typhoon tailing a Voyager which left Akrotiri. According to my son the Voyager is refuelling the Typhoon. They’re heading towards Turkey.

Possibly they were going out socialising then but they were all in uniform. 🤷‍♀️. Canadian flags sewn on their arms.

DanielaDressen · 04/10/2024 18:43

Just checked, last night was the last night of flying. Bet there’s some sort of social tonight on the base.

The BBMF PA474 Lancaster is up and flying, looks like it’s doing a test flight about the country. Alerted to it going over the house at 800ft!

NoWordForFluffy · 05/10/2024 16:31

My SiL's bloke is one of the BBMF Lancaster pilots. That's not him in the air today though!

DanielaDressen · 05/10/2024 18:17

Saw the Red Arrows this afternoon, they zoomed overhead as I was walking home.

The spitfire is out and about as well. Currently going over Notts.

What is going on here? 🤔

Hi

The one thing that leaps out at me from that screen snapshot is that the ground speed ( 58 knots) is simply not credible.

I'd speculate that that at could well.be down to the GPS jamming going on in that part of the world....(Russians have been doing it for years, I guess other may have joined in recently)

Certainly jamming may well have corrupted the data output that flightradar listens in to. Whatever the reason the tracking looks ragged and degraded.
.
Fortunately the aircraft/crew should still be able to navigate ok and air traffic control will have workarounds.

Where did the aircraft end up eventually?

iamsoshocked · 08/10/2024 18:24

There's a drone being very busy over Israel at the moment. Just South of Afula.

It landed in Jordan.

@2MargerinesOnTheGo

Thanks

@justasking111

As mentioned by pps that’s an unmanned aircraft of some sort but what it’s doing is anybody’s guess.

It’s been an odd day in that part of the world (more odder than usual), it looks like flightradar’s tracking is still erratic and even taking the poor tracking into account it looks like aircraft inbound to Tel Aviv from the west appear to be taking unusually circuitous and lengthy inbound routings going out East beyond Jerusalem before circling around to make their approach…

ErrolTheDragon · 14/10/2024 23:07

Randomly took a look at flight radar and found the police loop the looping over the m1 and then buzzing around over Mansfield - apparently a small plane rather than a helicopter.

Osprey off St Andrews now.

Anyone watching? There's a weird plane just south of Oxford making a very pretty pattern. No idea what it's doing. PHRVS going East/west south of Oxford.
