Cameron a safe pair of hands? The man who put Brexit to a referendum.

4% real terms increase in budget for NHS next year. The way I’m reading it there may be more money for capital projects on top of that. No cash injection for this winter though, so I think you just have to cross your fingers and hope you survive. Don’t see any mention of social care…

NHS set to receive 4% budget rise but health chiefs say it may not be enough

Whitehall source says it would only allow NHS to ‘stand still’ on waiting lists rather than reduce them

...and then ran away.... to his shed....

Burley showing her Tory credentials too....

newnamethanks · 18/10/2024 23:09

What is that schlock I've just been obliged to read? I thought Burley is a journalist? Is Mills & Boon still publishing? She's missed her vocation.

PickAChew · 18/10/2024 23:42

Fun fact: my chemistry A level textbooks were published by Mills & Boon 🤣

newnamethanks · 19/10/2024 08:11

😀I hope it was written by a strong, handsome doctor who was married to a beautiful, but shy, nurse.

countrygirl99 · 19/10/2024 08:48

Surely the authors hated each other until they realised they had misunderstood each other and fell in love

newnamethanks · 19/10/2024 09:03

Miss Mills removed her spectacles and unpinned her golden hair which tumbled to her shoulders in loose waves. "Oh but you're beautiful!" She looked at him through lowered lids "Dr Boon, I've waited so long . . . " take that Kay Birley, that's how you write about politics. Fortunately nobody else does.

😂😂

I remember my days of reading Mills and Boon books. Very easy read but very samey.

Don't think I noticed much at first as I'd rad Point horror (anyone remember those?) and they were the same - different characters same plot 😂

Better fiction than Boris Johnson's memoirs no doubt.

Llttledrummergirl · 19/10/2024 13:05

Are there ny prizes for fiction that we could nominate Johnsons book for? Grin

Sounds awful. Hope you soon feel better. 💐

Day 8? Maybe it's all a fever dream. You'll get better and the press will write articles about politics instead of concert tickets and the Tories will just be normal people with a different approach rather than empathy starved cunts...

I note with amusement that Italys right-wing PM has been told to do one by Italys highest court over the plan to offshore asylum processing to a 3rd country.

I bet the UK fanbois for this forget to mention it - or rather their usual mouthpieces have found other news to cover.

Blow to Meloni’s Albania deal as court orders asylum seekers’ return to Italy

Judges’ decision on 12 men held in Italian migration hub in Albania also casts doubt on EU’s hardline plans

The 100 days thread is still going - I'm arguing but only with three of the usual suspects.

Maybe they are at schools that have two week autumn half terms so have gone away?

You need fresh meat to sate the algorithms. That's why so many threads are started. AI is trained to believe that "activity=importance". (Remember whatever it is, it isn't "AI")

Now you know this, you have to promise not to use your knowledge for evil.

I got drawn into the one about tax rises. I really should have known better. Given that we don't have the facility to mute individual posters I'll have to resist challenging certain people. There's no point. It's like playing chess with a pigeon.

Thanks, but I think I'm going to hide that thread in a while - we're down to fundamental differences in how we think society should be run, i.e. rabid capitalism and devil take the hindmost vs having something resembling society. And never the twain shall meet, at least for two of the three I'm arguing with. They are of course fabulously wealthy.

newnamethanks · 20/10/2024 10:45

Save yourself, it's Sunday. Have a day off.
