So they think public transport is so poor people would not turn up or be late? Or were they fearing opponents would book a seat and then intentionally not turn up?

newnamethanks · 17/10/2024 22:51

They're going to rely on Character and Principles? Whose exactly? There's none to be seen in the 2 applicants.

I personally think they actually need the money.Shock

RafaistheKingofClay · 18/10/2024 00:50

They are skint. I think they had huge problems trying to get money during the election.

I’m not sure that £10 would be enough to put people off buying a ticket and not turning up. Some people might consider that £10 well spent.

newnamethanks · 18/10/2024 08:05

Skint? Oh well, theres always Frank Hester, racist misogynist with very deep pockets. Wonder what he thinks of Badenoch.

Does Question TIme not do their research anymore?

How much research would you have to do? Anybody paying even the slightest bit of attention during the election campaign would have known.

I suspect someone relied on AI - you know, those excruciatingly crap "summaries" that Google is punting at the top of search results now.

Most are utter bollocks and getting worse. GIGO - like gravity - is a law of nature.

RafaistheKingofClay · 18/10/2024 11:11

Maybe. I suppose it depends on the context in which the mistake was made but I’d largely expect this to be general knowledge for QT not something that needed research. The election was only 3-4 months ago and Labour spent a lot of time talking about this in the run up.

Maybe it’s not surprising that the line they seem to have gone with is yesterday’s Tory attack line.

Notonthestairs · 18/10/2024 11:26

I don't think we should be making excuses for inaccuracies on a flagship current affairs show.

BBCs standards - as such - only make them the better of a bad bunch.

Remember they failed to mention a 250,000 march in London a while back.

Just plonking this here -

GB News regular Matthew Goodwin gets grilled by @mehdirhasan on his (false) claim that "50% of social housing in London is now occupied by people who are not British" – it’s actually 14%.

x.com/ajheadtohead/status/1846929161652244808?s=46&t=Uw4lJNwxFZFnX0Xs3doHYg

Goodwin gets a couple of positive references in Badenoch's "autistic children receive an economic benefit" pamphlet.

That was glorious and the pillock just kept on digging.

cardibach · 18/10/2024 15:02

I bloody love Mehdi Hasan.
We need more journalists to do that.

RafaistheKingofClay · 18/10/2024 15:03

He’s going everything he can to try not to admit that what he actually meant is ‘people who aren’t white’.

I was born outside the U.K. to U.K. national parents. Strongly suspect that Goodwin would have no issue at all with me occupying social housing because I don’t look ‘foreign’. (This btw is an absolutely hilarious way to wind up people campaigning for UKIP/Brexit party/reform if they doorstep you or stop you in the street.)

Notonthestairs · 18/10/2024 15:40

Yes, interesting to see that by the end the audience was laughing at his answers.
I imagine this sort of thing isn't fact checked on GB News and he is free to peddle any old nonsense.

So much political discourse is led by poorly researched, poorly thought out Opinion pieces - it comes as quite a surprise these days when someone whips out some actual data.

RafaistheKingofClay · 18/10/2024 16:25

The Home Office has recruited 200 staff to clear a backlog of 23,300 modern slavery cases left by the last government

More Labour government achieving absolutely nothing and being as bad as the Tories.

Somebody mentioned the 40 new hospitals earlier…

That was just beautiful. But still Goodwin wouldn't concede
Idiot

You're completely right. I have been accosted by UKIP in the past, spoken to them and then told them where I am from. I sound 100% English.

BIossomtoes · 18/10/2024 16:49

I’ve so enjoyed watching that. I’d go as far as saying it’s made my day.

My pleasure 😁

This is quite ARGH - we lost £44 bn in investment due to Brexit.

And today chart. Startling @UKandEU @shunsakerjr research show £44bn “loss” from UK leaving European Investment Bank

Analysis: Striding determinedly towards me, hand outstretched to offer a firm, eye-contact handshake, Lord Cameron cuts a powerful image as he arrives for our interview.

I first met him as a friendly, fresh-faced MP when he was put forward by the government in the 2005 election campaign to hold the party line on myriad topics. He was calm, friendly and self-assured. When he left, I turned to the cameraman and said I bet you £20 he’s a future PM.

A warm smile spread across Lord Cameron’s face as I shared the recollection with him.

That faded into watery-eyed steel as we discussed the desperate loss of his son Ivan who died when he was just six-years-old. We touched on many other emotions too - considered politician when discussing Israel; polite stonewalling for who he wants to win the Tory leadership election; a useful lack of recall on whether he really did tell Boris Johnson ‘I will f*ck you up, forever’ over his stance on Brexit and a cheeky to-and-fro about SwiftGate.

He may no longer be in frontline politics but Lord Cameron is unquestionably a safe pair of hands in the unpredictable world of politics.
