We did in the 11th century apparently (William II) and possibly in the 17th (James VI or I), if accounts are historically accurate.

Sexual intercourse did not begin in 1963, misquoting Philip Larkin.

That reminds me of a very earnest 18 year old telling me that Freddie Mercury was bisexual but the term wasn’t used in the 70s/80s.

RafaistheKingofClay · 17/10/2024 16:41

There’s a thread on that. So far it appears the thing MN can agree on is that Chope is a dinosaur.

^Bring back the Family Doctor overnight
@wesstreeting
if funding was made available to GP practices Poll of 1000 GPs just 2/3 working the hours that they want Extrapolated to 35000 GPs 8000 willing to do 1-2 more sessions 2450 ~ 2-3 sessions 800 ~ 4-7 sessions 1750 out of work^

This seems like the sort of thing it would be worth investing in. Apparently per patient funding has been slashed by 20%. Not only would in increase the health of the population (and healthy people = healthy economy) it may well have knock on effects on secondary care. And it’s a nice feel good win that the population will notice. If you can get an appointment with a GP when you couldn’t before you notice that. It would probably do a lot to help burnout and retention too.

I think it is quite funny; a woman hoist by her own petard. Chope might be old and dinosaur but he is clever.

Meanwhile Jenrick is promising his followers the moon on a stick if they vote for him, even if the Tories were still in Government, realistically there would be no way to build 5 new nuclear power stations in 8 years

Chope is a disgrace, he voted against upskirting legislation and FGM legislation and defended Owen Paterson voting against the Standards Committee. Even a member of the Government called him a Jurassic embarrassment and said he should resign 😡

Social media even renamed upskirting into "choping". I do get the impression that the guy likes the sound of his own voice

Or 3 years, even, since a general election is unlikely before 2029

RafaistheKingofClay · 17/10/2024 17:19

Interesting use of the auxiliary verb ‘could’ in point 1 from Jenrick. We could reduce income tax if we move people of welfare. It’s not exactly a promise of reducing tax. We could reduce it by a lot more if we stopped paying welfare totally. But it isn’t going to happen.

‘We will reduce income tax by moving people off welfare’ would be a more standard sales pitch I’d have thought.

SerendipityJane · 17/10/2024 17:22

Not with the amount of petrodollars propping up the Tories.

Willowkins · 17/10/2024 17:38

They'd have to finish the hospitals they promised in 2019 first.

LlynTegid · 17/10/2024 17:41

Belated payment of cat tax.

Robert Jenrick says he would reduce immigration to "the tens of thousands, or lower" if he was in Government.

A reminder that when he was actually in charge, as immigration minister, net migration to the UK rose to 685,000.

Just read a quick summary of Nasty Bob's GBN interview. Everything is not the fault of Jeremy Corbyn nor yet Brexit. Everything is the fault of the ECHR and not being right wing enough. It's what the people want.

newnamethanks · 17/10/2024 20:00

Oh, and the immigrants of course.

Willowkins · 17/10/2024 20:03

Just to check, when he talks about ECHR, he's talking about the Court not the Convention right?

DuncinToffee · 17/10/2024 20:15

I don't think Jenrick knows

It's European and human rights he has a problem with

Is this true? Did the Tories really want to charge £10 a seat for a BBC debate?🤯

Are they that desperate and skint?
🙊😢🤣🤣🤣

Certainly was for Johnson.

Although neither his character or principles turned out to a sellable success either 👀

Badenoch says it is about character and principles, not policies

Well one character claims autistic kids have an economic advantage, maternity pay and regulation is excessive and schools employ superfluous staff.

The other character paints over Disney murals, takes money from oligarch owned companies and does deals to minimise community tax payments for property developers (in return for a bung).

It's an amazing choice.

TooBigForMyBoots · 17/10/2024 20:48

Both are unpleasant characters with no principles or policies.

Kind of makes you feel sorry for the Tory membership.
