I think (hope) Pippa Crerar has regretted her tweet quoting Harry Cole

If more politicians had refused interviews on the basis of stupid questions the media in this country might be in a much better state.

newnamethanks · 16/10/2024 11:07

@Zonder If I repeat the speculation in the deleted thread I'll be booted off myself. Suffice to say it was garbled and exaggerated bosh based on rumour begun by Dan Wooton and Isabel Oakeshott. Both reliable and trusted journalistic sources neither of whom are prone to viewing life through a lens of bitter and biased distortion. Still can't find that Pinnocchio emoji.

BIWI · 16/10/2024 11:29

@Zonder it was started by CurlewKate, asking if anyone had any news about the superinjunction, covering stories that Keir Starmer is gay and/or has fathered a love child with another woman.

The point being to prove that a) there is no superinjunction and b) it's all ridiculous, conspiracy nonsense

Cue many/most posters completely missing the sarcasm of the OP, and the fact that clearly these were fabricated stories, but also going on to discuss how dreadful KS is, both being gay and keeping it a secret, and having a child with a woman who isn't his wife, bearing in mind that he talks so much about integrity.

Lots of homophobia and even more vile speculation about KS.

MaybeNotBob · 16/10/2024 13:14

So he's both gay, and has fathered a love child with another woman?

OK then...

Willowkins · 16/10/2024 13:32

I don't know who first did this but getting someone to deny something false is almost as damaging as them admitting it was true.
It gives the ridiculous claims oxygen - but you need a hostile press (and nowadays social media) to fan the flames.

Draconian penalties that caused unpaid carers to rack up thousands of pounds of debt after unwittingly falling foul of benefit rules are to be overhauled, the government has announced.
The move comes six months after a Guardian investigation revealed tens of thousands of vulnerable carers were being ordered to repay hefty overpayments – and even threatened with criminal prosecution – over minor breaches of carer’s allowance earnings limits.

PandoraSox · 16/10/2024 13:51

PIP reforms/vouchers dead in the water for now. Government will not be taking the Tory plans any further.

Notonthestairs · 16/10/2024 13:52

Good. What a bloody waste that was.

pointythings · 16/10/2024 13:56

So that's two more things for the Labour bashers to whinge about then.

Takes me back to being bullied at school. I was apparently a frigid lesbian prostitute who shagged anything male.

Bloody ridiculous.

bombastix · 16/10/2024 14:08

The homophobia was pretty striking and I won’t forget that in a hurry. Makes you wonder about some people on here - these were the kind of views you’d have expressed in the 1950s.

Notonthestairs · 16/10/2024 14:17

Quite pleased I missed that thread. Bad enough reading how we've gone to far as a society being compassionate to autistic kids and people with MH problems.

Fist bump to my fellow frigid shagger @Llttledrummergirl
30 years on I'm quite pleased that they weren't quite sure how best to insult me.

Some posters were positively salivating at the thought of PIP vouchers.

The Starmer rumours thread had one positive, there is a regular poster who I will never bother engaging with again, now they have shown who they really are.

Yes. It was disgusting. And very revealing

newnamethanks · 16/10/2024 16:05

It was a revolting thread, full of bile and fevered imagination. I asked for it to be deleted, as I'm sure many others did too, given the quantity of libellous and homophobic comments but MN took its time about it. I don't understand MN moderation, letting a thread like that run on whereas many posters will have been reprimanded for simply replying firmly to a poster with a petty grievance.

Edited

The print being he's supposedly both gay and^^ fathered a love child with another woman. 🙄

Oh hadn't read this when I responded the same. Glad I'm not the only one who saw the irony!

Breaking news: KS ate TS's custard cream

Robert Jenrick just accepted a £25k donation from a firm owned by a sanctioned oligarch.

Biscuit first!

Nothing to see there. Cough. Perfectly legitimate and above board. Cough.

Bout time we had a high profile bisexual in public life , tbh.

There is a pattern. Some posters and threads get dismissed with positively hasty alacrity, and yet others are allowed to linger.

And if you look closely, you may notice which side of politics which happens to. It has been noticed, and remarked on (if not deleted) since the Brexshit campaign. Anyone claiming MN is "unbiased" is missing something...

ilovesooty · 16/10/2024 21:51

I see the Telegraph is claiming that if Jenrick wins the leadership contest and there were a snap election, Starmer would lose his majority.

Was it one of the predictable suspects?
