Really? I know its not nice to point and laugh buy I'm being left with no alternative.

Jenrick has promised to make JRM the Conservative Chairman if he wins Confused

Is that possible given that he’s no longer an MP?

itsgettingweird · 14/10/2024 16:15

I was asking today if anyone still gets newspapers as we need some for school.

A very lovely colleague said her dad still gets the Telegraph daily.

I can think of no better use for it than to give kids to rip up, use for paper mache or to protect tables from paint 😂

Notonthestairs · 14/10/2024 16:15

Chairman doesn't need to be elected. It's the only way Jenrick can crowbar Mogg in.

But aren’t there rules about who’s eligible?

Notonthestairs · 14/10/2024 16:23

Sorry, I wasn't clear. The Chairman role doesn't require the person to be an elected MP when they are not in Government (not sure why there is a difference between being in government or not)

So for now all it just treated as an internal appointment by the party leader.

PickAChew · 14/10/2024 16:26

It's an administrative role. (this from the tory party constitution. Thankfully early on in the 58 pages of it)

Treasury announces £63bn of private investment committed around big investment summit 'including' up to £1bn from DP World for their London Gateway container port operation.

Rachel Reeves also confirms govt will cap corporation tax at 25% for rest of parliament to create economic certainty.

Nothing screams tone deaf more than suffering if not their biggest loss, then one of their biggest losses, and getting the same washed up had beens that were rejected by the electorate back via the back door.

They really have learned nothing as a group, and given the size and frequency of the lessons, information, clues, they are showing themselves as incredibly stupid as a collective. I think they are trying to deliberately make themselves unelectable now.

itsgettingweird · 14/10/2024 18:25

So many news reports stating "Starmer sounded like a Tory" when reporting his comments from the investment meeting.

Me thinks it's sour grapes that he's doing what Tory's couldn't/didn't.

Who cares what he sounds like. If he's improving the economy he's doing his job!

BIWI · 14/10/2024 18:34

... and he's delivering what was promised in the manifesto!

Why?🤯

They are so delusional.

SerendipityJane · 14/10/2024 19:20

Meanwhile the de-brexiting of the board of trade is a good thing. And the upcoming metrology bill.

Genius idea to smuggle pro-EU policies through with big words. Means it's above the heads of the average frothing brexiteer.

Shows how blind honest Bob is to public opinion. Has anyone told him they got smashed at the last election with people like him and JRM?

Exactly, why does he think Rees Mogg lost his seat?

TooBigForMyBoots · 14/10/2024 21:07

Whose votes is he wooing here? Who wants JRM back?

ThatbloodyRoblox · 14/10/2024 21:26

Oh crikey so the Mogg fella might be back 🙄 I bet we can't wait.
In other leadership news did anyone see/ hear the LBC clip re Kemi Badenoch and autism

MN have had a few posters defend that pamphlet - seemingly without having read it.

She's certainly gunning for SN school transport. And all of the special 'equipment' my kid apparently benefits from.

I'm guessing she'll double back to getting rid of "superfluous" TAs next. She tried that 2 years ago.

I was annoyed about it yesterday. Today I'm furious.

Oddly this really hasn't dominated the headlines in the way Swift tickets did.

DuncinToffee · 14/10/2024 21:40

BBC is hosting a QT Tory leadership debate next week.

Jenrick has already accepted, will Badenoch come and defend her comments?

I have to say I’m really annoyed by the continued arse-licking to DP world. Many people who were shafted by P&O’s sacking of all their employees in 2022 feel supremely let down. Labour talked the talk then but it looks like they couldn’t give a shit now. Yet another own goal 😤

This country is on its knees and can't turn away 1bn investment. Its really distasteful but we're effed without it and slightly, temporarily I guess, less effed without it. 2 evils to choose from. Can't make nowt from nowt.
