I’d be extremely interested to know where they’ve got £200k from.

Undeclared donors I presume...

Notonthestairs · 08/10/2024 22:02

Johnson once dismissed his £250,000 salary for his Telegraph column as "chicken feed". Maybe the leadership candidates feel the same.

BIossomtoes · 08/10/2024 22:06

But they have to declare now they’re not ministers, don’t they? I sincerely hope a curious journalist is checking out the register.

But they're not Labour, so it's obviously of no interest...

Johnson and Stormy in the Green Room? O to be a fly on the wall. Someone call up Jennifer Arcuri for comment.

cardibach · 09/10/2024 12:08

Sunak is much more human as LOTO than he was as PM in PMQs. Starmer not being rattled though.

bombastix · 09/10/2024 12:17

Some underarm balls by Sunak; he faxed that in. Starmer didn’t face a real challenge at all

cardibach · 09/10/2024 12:26

I’d agree he doesn’t seem massively invested. He’s more likeable like that though.

Cheguevarahamster · 09/10/2024 15:33

Cleverly's out. That's a bit of a shock!

cardibach · 09/10/2024 15:34

Indeed it is @Cheguevarahamster
They're left with the nutters.

Indeed. They are chasing reform but chasing their tails. They have learned NOTHING from the election.

Evenstar · 09/10/2024 15:43

I have just said to DH that they have probably locked in defeat for the next two elections and I could see them being the third party with even less MP’s. They’ve gone mad.

pointythings · 09/10/2024 15:45

Party time at Labour Central!

Stupid, stupid Tories.

LittleBowSheep · 09/10/2024 15:45

I'm very disappointed to see Cleverly knocked out of the race. Not that I'm a fan of his, but I did really want the last 2 both to be non-white, just to mess with the heads of the Tory members.

Looks like it's going to be Jenrick then.

DuncinToffee · 09/10/2024 15:46

I know I’ve been joking that this is a competition to find the worst possible person but I didn’t see that coming. Thought the MPs would try to minimise the worst possible option being given to the members.

OTOH this could be very very funny.

DuncinToffee · 09/10/2024 15:51

I am actually shocked that Cleverly didn't make the final 2, what a jump to the right.

Tories saying they think the Cleverly camp lent Jenrick votes to try to keep Badenoch off the ballot but lent too many. Or Cleverly supporters did it off their own backs thinking he was nailed on for the final

If this is true I might die laughing.

Well they have lost the soft Tory vote to the Lib Dems and or Labour.

Both candidates are very right wing. One of them should have been more moderate, but the Tory party now is very right wing. They have fixed nothing in their choice, and are chasing the Reform vote.

My guess is Jenrick will win. Badenoch is busy all the time telling people they are wrong; it’s a turn off. But given the average age and mentality of Tory member it may be a kind of bizarre comfort.

I think if the voting wasn’t limited to Tory members only that might be true. But the Tory membership is so far removed from Tory voters (and reality) absolutely anything could happen.

PickAChew · 09/10/2024 15:58

Oh my word.

Of course, this means that if Labour don't get a second term in 2029, they have really fucked up.

Yes. The thing is that to win an elections the Tories need new voters. They have picked two candidates who are likely incapable of bringing in those votes.

bombastix · 09/10/2024 16:00

Badenoch the favorite; well maybe I have lost my touch. My money was on Jenrick.

Cheguevarahamster · 09/10/2024 16:01

I am trying to wean myself off twitter - but at times like this you cant beat it.
