This could explain Badenoch's approach

https://x.com/WritesBright/status/1841460284390621444?t=FaOTMUVFvTbkRGu8q6tgDQ&s=19

Kemi Badenoch is running her leadership campaign from the home of wealthy Tory donor Neil Record.

Neil Record is the chair of the climate science denial group Net Zero Watch.

He's also the life vice president of the Institute of Economic Affairs, closely linked to Liz Truss.

Is she declaring that properly?

DuncinToffee · 02/10/2024 15:09

Not yet but she has still has time to do so

Oh very good. I like that a lot, can I borrow it?

My gift to the world 😀

Fkin Tufton Street. Again.

Thanks cheg that's a very interesting interview I missed. Farage once again saying if we were told the truth and completely ignoring that it's not telling the truth that matters - it's that people shouldn't riot because they assume something to be the truth.

Care workers do a lot more than just wipe bottoms. And how dehumanising of people who need care, seeing them just as bottoms to be wiped.

Hateful woman.

Excellent point. She not treating those who need care with dignity - let alone those who provide it.

Early days. But a bit more positive. Migrant channel crossings lowest since 2020.

www.thesun.co.uk/news/30804564/migrant-channel-crossings-yvette-cooper/

Hmmm..... the weather plays a big part in channel crossings though.

Notonthestairs · 02/10/2024 16:50

Quite a Truss-like sense of martyrdom in the suggestion from Badenoch that Conservative students are marked down because of their views. I'd love to see some data relating to this.

The IEA are Truss' favourite think tank (actually Sunak might have worked there too) and they are big proponents of the threat from podcast listening, taxi using, tofu eating, wokerati. So it ties in.

Not a fan of Nigel Farage but Susannah Reid and Ed Balls were awful. What is the point of inviting Farage on to a programme and then interrupting him so that the viewer just hears everyone talking over each other. One of the worst interviews ever.

Windy weather does - but it's not been particularly windy along the south coast lately tho' it was earlier in the summer

Nearly time for a new thread!

Keir Starmer has paid back more than £6,000 worth of gifts and hospitality received since becoming PM - No 10.
He has paid back Taylor Swift tickets, days at the races and a clothing rental agreement with a high-end designer favoured by his wife.

Well that's a gift to an entire generation of thickos isn't it ? "I should have got 8 A*s but because I wore a <insert this weeks public enemy> badge, I got 9 ungraded. If you don't give me a place at university you are part of the trans mafia or something. Just don't ask me to spell it."

I'd love to see some data relating to this.

I am going to go out on a limb here and suggest there is no "data" on this beyond whatever the voices in St. Kemi's head are saying.

Christ, that’s awful. I love Hislop too, so witty.

Yes he hilarious on HIGNFY.

His episode on Cummings had me and ds in stitches for hours after it finished!

No wonder you remain in your wee bubble. I'm centre right and watched all the Labour party conference speeches live and from the horses's mouths

I'm centric. Have some left and right leaning views. I've watched all Labour and Tory speeches the past few years.

I still think Badenoch is despicable.

She's like the offspring of Truss and Trump.

Why bother? It was within the rules and declared. I can't imagine any changes they'll make to the rules will be retrospective. 🤷🏼‍♀️

They explained. As broadcasters they have a duty to make sure nothing is said that contempt.

Our visual media isn't the same as in US where they can say what they like regardless and be extremely partisan. Even outside of the BBC (which is quite a Tory supporting nowadays despite the Tory claims otherwise imo)

Elodie09 · 02/10/2024 17:08

@PandoraSox I agree completely re Nigel Farage.
I have no idea why he gets so much airtime either.

He can't win either way, maybe simply he feels that it is the right thing to do.

Starmer’s announcement coincides with the publication of a new register of interests - it looks like he is repaying freebies received since becoming PM.

If you don't interrupt Farage, it just becomes the Nigel show without scrutiny, might as well tune into Gbeebies for that

Yes but it's pointless if everyone is then just all talking over each other at the same time. It does not make for a good interview.

I thought they were excellent. They only interrupted him to stop him when he was not answering the question or was misrepresenting things. Should they allow liars to lie on air?
