Hi all, just popping in to say hello. I haven't posted much over the last couple of days or so. My beloved cat suddenly became very ill and had to be put to sleep. Am absolutely, stupidly heartbroken and don't have much headspace to follow politics at the moment, let alone comment much. But I will catch up via this thread xxx

So sorry pandora FlowersFlowersSad

I really hope her constituents call for a by election.

There should be a by election immediately for any MP who does what she's done.

newnamethanks · 29/09/2024 11:13

Awful news Pandora, very sorry to hear that. And best wishes to everyone else on here who has varying degrees of illness and/or sadness. Hope everything improves soon.

Willowkins · 29/09/2024 11:16

@PandoraSox I'm so sorry to hear this. I'm going through the same with my cat and it's so hard to know the right thing to do.

itsgettingweird · 29/09/2024 11:16

Pandora I'm so very sorry Flowers

I don't think anyone is suggesting that Rosie Duffield has committed any of the offences that lead to a recall petition.

No longer standing for the party under which you were elected should be enough. It should be automatic.

It is hard in the period before, but I think as a loving pet owner when the time comes you do know. It’s still ridiculously hard though.

ilovesooty · 29/09/2024 11:19

@PandoraSox I'm so, so sorry.

DuncinToffee · 29/09/2024 11:21

Aw, thanks everyone. I honestly haven't felt this bad since my mum died!

@Willowkins it is a VERY hard decision, but better to do it a bit too soon that too late, I think. * *

BIossomtoes · 29/09/2024 11:36

So very sorry @PandoraSox. It hurts so much even though you know you’re doing the right thing. 💐💐

BIWI · 29/09/2024 11:43

Sorry to hear that @PandoraSox Sad Flowers

So sorry @PandoraSox Flowers

For small creatures, they take up a big place in our hearts. Look after yourself. Flowers

RafaistheKingofClay · 29/09/2024 12:02

So sorry! @PandoraSox

Notonthestairs · 29/09/2024 12:06

Gosh, its been a difficult month(s) for so many on these threads. Pandora - I am so sorry about your cat, they have such a special place in our hearts.
And Willow I hope you recuperate well. Tricky to catch you up on politics because in part there has been very little of substance happening as we wait for the budget and Parliament is in recess.

I did like this bit of news although it didn't receive the sort of attention it should have done -

"All UK Armed Forces Veterans will be exempt from rules which require a connection to a local area before accessing social housing. This is in line with the manifesto commitment to strengthen support for our Armed Forces communities and to ensure veterans have access to the housing support they need.
Whilst not mandatory, the vast majority of councils (89%) have a local connection or residency test in place to determine who can qualify for social housing. These changes will mean that where such requirements are in place, veterans are not unfairly penalised."

And the exemption will also apply to care leavers and domestic abuse victims.

Notonthestairs · 29/09/2024 12:09

I am also pleased that the Government is intending to decriminalise non payment of the BBC tv licence - 70% of those fined are women so it does appear to have a disproportionate impact.

pointythings · 29/09/2024 12:18

@PandoraSox and @Willowkins I am so sorry about your cats. They steal your heart and then break it when they go.

Kemi Badenoch tells Times Radio that maternity pay has "gone too far."

“We need to have more personal responsibility. There was a time when there wasn’t any maternity pay and people were having more babies.”

Cheguevarahamster · 29/09/2024 12:57

So sorry @PandoraSox . It's heartbreaking when they go.

WTAF is Kemi going on about? What does she mean by too far?

Oh, the sainted Kemi, who's apparently so keen on standing up for women.

Piggywaspushed · 29/09/2024 13:02

Some of the replies are hilarious.
