I agree with that @SerendipityJane , no matter which party they are stepping down from. Also applies to switching parties if I’m honest. It should be Step Down, By-Election imo.

CassieMaddox · 28/09/2024 18:27

Oh I think we probably agree with a lot more than you think, and to be fair it's probably not down to her, but I'm 100% bored of right wingers using her as some kind of martyr to their cause.

Just been looking at the Starmer stuff on Twitter. Absolutely disgusting in my opinion. The knives are really out for him on there.

Ha, we definitely do Grin. But MN not the place to discuss it.

I’m not on Twitter and, the odd “look at this thread!” Thread on here aside, I’m glad. I was on it for a while but ffffffffffft….brainfuzz…….nastiness . I’m not on it like I wouldn’t be on 4Chan.

I got the impression that many of her constitutions feel she isn't interested in them. But , they still voted her in at the election, I guess.

BIossomtoes · 28/09/2024 18:34

SerendipityJane · 28/09/2024 18:27

She was more than happy to take labour money to get elected.

Exactly. I criticised the Tories enough when they left the party and didn’t resign as an MP and she’s no different.

Be a test of her dedication, competence at local level and mettle to see if they vote her in again as an Independent. Which will be interesting.

BestIsWest · 28/09/2024 18:54

Absolutely agree @SerendipityJane. I weighed and stacked, folded and delivered leaflets for my Lab MP. Presumably Rosie Duffield’s party members did the same. I’d feel so betrayed.

ThatbloodyRoblox · 28/09/2024 19:09

I agree that any MP who resigns the party the were elected for should result in a by-election. It feels a bit like she was waiting for the best/worst time to do this.

There’s something very odd about this. She cites the two child benefit cap as one of her reasons but she obviously didn’t vote to get rid of it or she’d have lost the whip. The treatment of Diane Abbott is another reason she gives - so why not resign during her lengthy suspension? This doesn’t feel right somehow.

Yes, the timing is certainly interesting.

If she stands down and then stands as an independent, I can see her being re elected as a fuck you to the government. 'Twas ever thus.

Piggywaspushed · 28/09/2024 19:19

I really don't think so. She's no Diane Abbott.

I don’t either. Jonathan Ashworth is looking for a seat, call a by election and make her put her money where her mouth is.

Piggywaspushed · 28/09/2024 19:31

The LDs will be eyeing the seat for sure.

The LDs will be eyeing the seat for sure.

Not happening. The Greens did better than the LDs in Canterbury.

Piggywaspushed · 28/09/2024 19:38

Did they? Goodness.

It's all very odd and doesn't ring true.

Efacsen · 28/09/2024 19:53

Maybe to stir things up again once it was all beginning to settle down?

Already two frotha-thons going strong - one with added 'where are they'

So she wasn’t prepared to put her money where her mouth is now just two months ago? Really, who’s the hypocrite?

They could just c&p their posts from all the other threads rather than start yet another one

Is all this frothing to deflect from the upcoming Tory conference?

Very likely

Cleverley tried to persuade 200 asylum seekers to accept £150,000 packages to voluntarily move to Rwanda, wonder if that will come up during his leadership bid speech

Exactly! Why if she was to resign the whip wouldn't she just have voted against the party.
I honestly don't think she looks good at all, that resignation letter was very personal about KS as leader... yet she stood for that party a few months ago knowing who he was. I guess it is hard to lose that kind of wage.

ThatbloodyRoblox · 28/09/2024 20:17

Speaking of Cleverly I have a huge amount of his ads on my SM feeds in the last couple of days.

Something is def going on because the froth has gone up a gear

I've been wondering if it's related to the US election - I noticed that Harris was using similar messaging to Starmer.

Or Putin kicking off about Lammys speech/labour having a more critical foreign policy

Or Musk stirring the pot because of the online harms bill

Or all of the above

Piggywaspushed · 28/09/2024 20:40

Duffield has her article in The Times already. Colour me surprised.
