I have the concept of a plan...

He's making stuff up for his book.

No, not Johnson, that wellknown fanatical adherent to the truth. I’m shocked you’d even entertain the thought.

And there were no parties in No 10

Managed to miss this thread due to being ill. PMK and catching up digesting the revelations that Boris was ready to lead an invasion of the Netherlands in his mind in 2021. Gripping stuff.

BIWI · 28/09/2024 10:19

You couldn't actually make any of that stuff up, could you? No wonder comedians are finding it so hard to satirise stuff!

DuncinToffee · 28/09/2024 10:22

It can be filed under fantasy and fiction, unless you are Liz Truss who files on colour.

Zahawi has a book out too, it's expensive heating your stables.

Could always burn his books?

Well burn a few copies of that of an evening and two problems solved in one stroke !

They were all far too busy saving the country.

Just opened a random thread in Active musing whether Diana would have known about Al Fayed and there's someone in there wondering if Starmer was head of the CPS when a decision was made not to prosecute. Here we go again...

I bet it was Starmer who caused her crash.

I saw you on the Trump threads and was worried there had been a falling out! Flowers

Oh I've had that already. If anyone wants a cheat sheet - CPS declined to prosecute in 2009 and 2015. First when Starmer was DPP and it was a Labour government, second when Alison Saunders was DPP and it was a Conservative government.

It's such nonsense, I don't know why people waste their time posting it.

Notonthestairs · 28/09/2024 11:51

Agree with a lot of this, in particular flagging their plans to the City etc in advance of the Budget. To be fair, judging from the FT, that seems to be happening already.

Notonthestairs · 28/09/2024 11:53

Already this morning I've read on Twitter that Starmer is gay, his wife has thrown him out and Rayner will be PM by Tuesday.

Just imagine the fume on here if Angela Rayner became PM on Tuesday, certain posters would combust 😂

Wasn't he pro-bonoing the McLibel protesters in the 90s ?

Notonthestairs · 28/09/2024 12:12

I should have screenshot them for your amusement. One tweet instructed people to 'stand by' - unclear for what.

Also laughed at the Times report of Conservative leadership contest at their conference this week - Jenrick's team supposedly complaining that it's been dumbed down (shorter speeches) to benefit Badenoch!

SerendipityJane · 28/09/2024 12:13

Just seen an amusing suggestion that pensioners could save £400 a year by giving up the Daily Mail ....

itsgettingweird · 28/09/2024 12:21

Heard the other day how disgusting it was "war veterans were going to be left to freeze to death".

Now I absolutely think we should respect our veterans but they are hardly any number of current pensioners.

Also the war ended 80 years ago so hardly any percentage of current pensioners sacrificed anything during the war.

Yes many will have been born during or post war but not the majority.

I absolutely agree the WFA threshold should be looked at.

However - all these propaganda headlines that twits actual fact are tiresome and unhelpful.

Most pensioners are not choosing between heating and eating. And those who don't own their own homes can get help with rent.

For me what takes away from sensible discussion is the fact both sides (because I include myself in this) disengage because it's so partisan and black and white. There is literally no discussion to be had - because there is no willingness to discuss the grey.

It's bloody infuriating.
