That’s made me sad. A national treasure if ever there was one.

RafaistheKingofClay · 27/09/2024 14:25

Absolutely. One of a kind.

DuncinToffee · 27/09/2024 15:21

That is sad news

Amazing actor and good woman. I’m ridiculously sad.

RafaistheKingofClay · 27/09/2024 15:43

I just sort of imagined her going on forever. Sad there won’t be any new stuff. Might have to start a watch of her back catalogue.

I think building a relationship with Trump early on is pretty crucial given Trump's commentary regarding NATO and Ukraine. If he does win in November we will not be able to just ignore American policies - they will directly impact us.

I have always expected the UK PM to forge a working relationship with any American leader regardless of their political persuasion.

This absolutely it’s imperative especially if he does win the election, really hope he doesn’t but stranger things have happened.
I fed up with the frothing & hypocrisy now, won’t deny I was disappointed by the clothes & glasses just hoping Labour get a hold of the comms another one aghast at Beth Rigby thought she was than cheap shots & lazy reporting.
thanks for that article Cassie makes really interesting reading.
very sad news about Dame Maggie Smith, her one liners in Downton made it worth watching.

cardibach · 27/09/2024 12:19

They just work from the premise that anything Starmer or his cabinet do is wrong, and work out a justification from there I think, @Notonthestairs

It really does feel that way.

itsgettingweird · 27/09/2024 16:07

Yes very sad about Maggie Smith. She really was a national treasure.

Notonthestairs · 27/09/2024 17:28

What an extraordinary career Maggie Smith had.

I agree.

Just hoping Trump does not get elected.

I like Starmers reply here

"Anybody who thinks that I was pretending it was my own home, the idea that I've got union jacks by my fireplace at home or that I would invite a bunch of you lot into my living room to have a look around.

"I mean, I think the idea that I was trying to pretend that it was my home is pretty farcical."

He added: "And no I'm not going to be inviting you in to film me in front of my fireplace. I'm very sorry, that's about the last thing I'd do!"

(about him using a donor's flat flat to film videos)

Yes when i pointed out that all political leaders moved around during CV, i was told that Boris and Sunak had legitimate business reasons to move from Downing street to Yorkshire or Chequers and back again.... but apparently Starmer did not.

The double standards and hypocrisy is mind blowing and as for Rigby, jeez how much more bias could she be?

ilovesooty · 27/09/2024 17:36

Starmer has made a well worded and heartfelt tribute to Dame Maggie Smith. Posters on Facebook are using it to have a go at him and even claiming that she died because he took her winter fuel allowance away.

I'm gutted by the news. She was one of the greatest actors ever in my lifetime.

Saucery · 27/09/2024 17:54

claiming that she died because he took her winter fuel allowance away.

You don’t know whether to laugh or cry at that level of stupidity, do you?

I like his level of snippiness at the borrowed flat tbh.

Sadly it sums up a whole new level of stupidity we are facing.

And these people are allowed to vote (and drive and reproduce!)

Ok, we don't all agree with removal of WFA or even agree but not the threshold.

But to try and claim a really rich woman died because the WFA she didn't need and wouldn't have been paid in a few months time hadn't been paid is actually a whole new level of disrespect rather than idiocy. Maggie had family. It's horrid to use her dad and tragic death for political again.

In fact I find it abhorrent

DuncinToffee · 27/09/2024 20:02

We don't know in which country......

We can always hope it's not the UK 🤞😂

Zonder · 27/09/2024 22:19

I'm so fed up of the clothes story. The BBC just said that Labour have done nothing wrong because everything was properly declared. So it's a non blooming story. But they are still going to witter on about it and there will still be people on here looking for anything at all to whine about labour for. I can't bear to look at any threads over there >>> anymore. You can't beat down all the stupid posts popping up.

I think I need a holiday.

BIossomtoes · 27/09/2024 22:27

It’s never ending, isn’t it? cardibach had it spot on.

Johnson apparently planned a military raid in Holland to snatch back the astra zeneca vaccine according to his book Hmm

But he such a funny bloke....

OP posts:
Zonder · 28/09/2024 09:00

Oh what a top bloke! Almost like superman. 🤔

Notonthestairs · 28/09/2024 09:13

I have the concept of a plan...

He's making stuff up for his book.
