Incidentally the ignoring strategy is working. The thread on the use of the flat has one poster getting very frustrated because nobody with an opposing view will jump on and argue with them!

CassieMaddox · 27/09/2024 09:52

Oops 😮

I ventured into it, it all leads back to PS vat Confused

Maybe we need to be holding each other accountable
I had an "mn calling" email this week so my plan of only posting here didn't work! I have no self control clearly 😂

DuncinToffee · 27/09/2024 10:24

I just look at the thread title, do a quick as on the OP and see which names are posting and then roll my eyes these days.

Anyone who tells you to go back to 'your threads' isn't worth debating with.

Maybe if I am bored Wink

I used to quite like straight talking Beth Rigby but she started going a bit odd the closer it got to the GE

Good strategy. They’re not saying “Get back to your threads”, there’s a poster moaning because we’re all boycotting it! Speaks volumes.

DuncinToffee · 27/09/2024 11:01

The 'get back to your threads' comes in many forms Wink

Very true.

Starmer probably prefered meeting Trump over yet another question about tickets Wink

There’s a thread where him doing this is being used to say he’s a hypocrite. It’s getting very wearing.
Edit: I think it’s the flat thread you are referring to above. Or at least it’s a flat thread…

It’s meant to be wearing which is why (far later than the rest of you who are more sensible than me) I’ve finally decided to stop engaging. Just leaving that handful of posters to it will hopefully make it calm down. There’s no point if they’re not getting fed.

I think I kept going for a bit because I could see your name…I’ve hidden it now. I’m utterly shit at being ill and lying on the sofa is not conducive to hand sitting.

Notonthestairs · 27/09/2024 12:13

Do they not remember Theresa May's phonecalls with Biden ahead of the last election? Or Johnson describing Biden as a breath of fresh air? Are they parochial enough to think the UK PM should only talk to politicians they see eye to eye with?

cardibach · 27/09/2024 12:19

They just work from the premise that anything Starmer or his cabinet do is wrong, and work out a justification from there I think, @Notonthestairs

Hope those bloody shingles heal very soon. I’m done. Hopefully they’ll find something else to rant about soon.

Absolutely. Spot on.

I do try to see all points of view but the level of Thick on social media just seems to be rising.
Local news story - older gentleman either fell or jumped into a body of water. Fortunately, he was rescued. Comment of " this government needs to go, we have to protect our elderly" Was sorely tempted to ask if Keir Starmer pushed him in?

Notonthestairs · 27/09/2024 12:28

I think building a relationship with Trump early on is pretty crucial given Trump's commentary regarding NATO and Ukraine. If he does win in November we will not be able to just ignore American policies - they will directly impact us.

I have always expected the UK PM to forge a working relationship with any American leader regardless of their political persuasion.

Yes the people criticising Starmer for meeting Trump absolutely are that parochial.
And also seemingly unable to appreciate that different contexts require a different approach.

It's infuriating.

Don't know how many people on here listened to series 2 of "things fell apart" but I often think about things presented in there. And a follow up interview between Jon Ronson and Adam Buxton where Jon gives a very interesting analysis of how the right wing has started using Twitter.

Interesting interview with him here which resonates in light of Marshall/Gove taking over the Spectator. I'm not sure how much Gove values facts or expertise.

Russell Findlay has been elected as the new leader of Scottish Conservatives

The announcement unintentionally? confirmed the number of Scottish Conservative Party at only 7,000. He won 60% of the vote but only got 2,500 votes. You do the maths for how many could be bothered voting Wink

DuncinToffee · 27/09/2024 13:33

I like Starmers reply here

"Anybody who thinks that I was pretending it was my own home, the idea that I've got union jacks by my fireplace at home or that I would invite a bunch of you lot into my living room to have a look around.

"I mean, I think the idea that I was trying to pretend that it was my home is pretty farcical."

He added: "And no I'm not going to be inviting you in to film me in front of my fireplace. I'm very sorry, that's about the last thing I'd do!"

(about him using a donor's flat flat to film videos)

Indeed, here is the breakdown

Total number of electors 6,941
Turnout 60%

Valid votes cast 4,155
Russell Findlay 2,565 votes
Murdo Fraser 1,187
Meghan Gallacher 403
