I am not on social media, I don’t go abroad, I walk to work, I don’t celebrate the increasingly hot summers by sunbathing, I spend my weekends dog walking and bird watching. I love my house to be cosy in autumn. I have a box in the attic with autumnal bits in. Just like I have a Christmas box. Am I acceptable please?

Ginmonkeyagain · 03/09/2024 07:25

Decorating for autumn, what fuckery is this? It's a season, not a party.

Nannyfannybanny · 03/09/2024 08:21

Bad for the planet!!! Most of the autumn decorations I have are collected in the garden,on woodland walks. The rest is donkeys years old, and just brought out. I was born and brought up in the SE UK, autumn featured big in the church and school. Harvest festivals, decorating the church with produce which we then distributed to the needy, not much different to todays food banks. The pumpkins aren't wasted, I make the pulp into soup. I wonder how many miseries on here, actually "do" Halloween, buy sweets, cheap costumes! It's not just American,a lot of the Nordic countries celebrate as well.

All these people that can’t find 20 minutes a couple of times a year to hang some stuff up yet have all the time in the world to be an unfunny twat on the internet.

But there are some comedy masterpieces here, clearly!

tilts head and tinkly laughs in superior

LilBowWow · 03/09/2024 08:31

I did laugh out loud at the net zero trip to Antarctica to be fair.

Decorate for autumn? Y'all have way too much time in your hands

LilBowWow · 03/09/2024 09:02

Post on threads you’re not interested in? Y’all … never mind.

operafiend · 03/09/2024 13:14

Never heard of it !

Never heard of it !

Do you have to hear of doing a thing before you use your own imagination and do something?

So much faux naivety on this thread.

Those of you saying we have too much time on our hands, what the hell do you think you’re doing posting nonsense on a thread you have no interest in? I’d say that was the epitome of having too much time on your hands 🤪

I changed my 10-year-old diesel vehicle for a new hybrid which I expect to still be driving in 14/15 years. My trip to Antartica an expedition cruise on an electric powered ship and buying a beauty advent calender is only a thing when I actually need (cruelty free) skin and hair products. Hence I didn’t buy one last year because I had stuff left from the year before. So, try again! I am not saying that I live a totally none polluting life in the woods, but I am mindful. Buying seasonal tat is just bloody selfish and irresponsible!

What was the expedition cruise for?

Y'all posting on here with your fake shock and judgement at someone making their home how THEY want it need to go find a post that you're interested in instead of pissing all over someone else's.

Thistlewoman · 02/09/2024 18:36

I don't. I have actual real things to do in my life, can't imagine any reason why I would want to clutter up our home with a load of old 'autumnal' tat. Autumn will be happening very soon.. get outside into the natural world & enjoy the real thing rather than creating a pastiche in your house!

I live very rurally and we have land with dogs and sheep and goats and chickens. I am outside plenty and have a lovely full life. I also decorate inside my home for autumn.

Barney60 · 03/09/2024 14:52

Nope at 63 ive never decorated or intend to decorate for Autumn, never heard of it tbh.

HowAmITheCatsGranny · 03/09/2024 15:21

I actually don’t think it’s a new thing at all.. more of an old one that maybe fell out of fashion for a while? Even churches historically changed things such as colours and flowers in line with the liturgical calendar.
As a child in the 80’s I remember collecting acorns and conkers and pine cones and things to make autumn displays at home and school.

NanyWytch · 03/09/2024 15:53

I decorate in time for Mabon the 21st or 22nd of September however this year l am away on these dates at a motorbike rally. So will have to decorate before.

greengreyblue · 03/09/2024 18:04

No it’s nice to just experience autumn and enjoy more seasonal meals, clothes , walks and noticing the change if colour and lighting/candles. That’s different to decorating which seems quite superficial. Seasonal changes don’t have to be commercial.

JohnTheRevelator · 03/09/2024 18:04

I didn't know that decorating for autumn was now 'a thing'!

What’s wrong with celebrating the different seasons?

Harvest festival is fine. In a church.

I’m not sure why you’re the arbiter of how people can celebrate and enjoy each season as it comes, but thanks anyway I guess 🤷🏼‍♀️

Because I am?!😂. But seriously, you do you. I think we have to be a bit careful because otherwise these things are yet another way in which we have to be perfect and generally people have enough to do without , as another poster says ‘buying loads more stuff from Temu’ . Or wherever. And then I thought a bit more and realised we have an autumn festival already, Harvest Festival. We do decorate- churches.

I really dislike the wastage of Halloween, all those pumpkins. Probably I am channeling The Grinch. But you don’t have to.

haha that’s fair enough - I don’t like Temu at all, and don’t buy in to the disposable stuff, just a few key bits I’ve had for a few years that brings me a weird sense of joy when I get them out 😂 weirdly I think the reason I quite enjoy dressing the house for autumn is that it’s not some Uber competitive sport like Christmas can be, I can just add my little bits and feel a spark of joy when I get home from work on a dark rainy evening without worrying I’ve let my kids down because I don’t have a 6ft Santa on my roof 😂
