I changed my 10-year-old diesel vehicle for a new hybrid which I expect to still be driving in 14/15 years. My trip to Antartica an expedition cruise on an electric powered ship and buying a beauty advent calender is only a thing when I actually need (cruelty free) skin and hair products. Hence I didn’t buy one last year because I had stuff left from the year before. So, try again! I am not saying that I live a totally none polluting life in the woods, but I am mindful. Buying seasonal tat is just bloody selfish and irresponsible!

😂Clucking hell, Is this a serious post! Electric powered ship to Antarctica?!!!

😆

CrowleyKitten · 02/09/2024 22:36

I DO decorate my altar seasonally, for the next festival after the last one passes by, but for general house decorations, I just do Halloween and Yule. although a lot of my halloween decorations are year round :P

Imagine having a to-do list so short that ‘decorate for autumn’ was at the top of it! 😂

Imagine feeling the need to mock what others find joy in. Maybe it's not a the top of their 'need to do list' but maybe it makes them happy and who are you to laugh at that?

This. ^ I don't decorate for Autumn - but I do love a good load of Halloween stuff around from 20th October to 1st November. THEN I start hanging Remembrance weekend stuff up, (poppies and 'War Remembrance' kind of things...)

I am sure someone will come along and mock and deride that too.

Good job I don't give a shit.

Did you swim to Antarctica? Electric boat all the way? Get a grip.

That poster is a joke. Imagine having a go at people about their impact on the environment for a few decorations, when you're off to Antarctica. 🤣🤣🤣

FillyourPothole · 02/09/2024 23:34

I'll be dusting Ms Tiggywinkle off . . .

Whoops, here she is

What date do you decorate for autumn?
toastedcrumpetsrock · 02/09/2024 23:51

Usually the end of September but it's been so wet here that I decided to do it today, I change my door wreath from summer flowers to autumn leaves, change a few ornaments and put out a couple of throws, nothing too extreme- they get stored and swapped with Xmas and spring/summer, I've been doing it for a few years now, it makes me happy and it all gets reused year after year

Scentedjasmin · 02/09/2024 23:55

I find it shocking that people don't decorate for Autumn. Admittedly I don't always change my curtains, but I get my autumnal throw, made from red fox skin, and drape it over the sofa, put my autumn leaves cushions out, unfurl my squirrel rug and get my ornamental hedgehog collection out. I also have an artificial orange leaf wreath on my front door, and a dozen pumpkin spiced latte candles out. I don't have a log fire, sadly, so I pop a framed print of one up instead.
I've not put mine up yet, as rather shamefully, I've still got my summer decorations up (Ornamental buckets and spades, shells, sea breeze and fresh linen scented candles, bunting, cushions in the shape of beach houses, ornamental strawberry plants, a "wish you were here" doormat and my hanging porcelain wasp mobile).

Scentedjasmin · 02/09/2024 23:58

Actually, I do decorate every year for autumn. I place conkers in the corners of my rooms and put a can of Raid on display in every room.

HeySummerWhereAreYou · 03/09/2024 00:00

Mrs Tiggywinkle is precious @FillyourPothole Grin

I am tempted to have some Autumn stuff up now! 😆

HeySummerWhereAreYou · 03/09/2024 00:02

@Scentedjasmin Come on now! You can't dangle the words 'hanging porcelain wasp mobile' under our noses and not show us a photo of it. 😆

I'm intrigued! We need to see the ornamental hedgehog collection too!

What utter bollocks.

Yes. This thread is a good example of what is so crap about Mumsnet.

Someone comes on and makes a totally innocuous comment and along come the fuckers.

Why do some people get so much pleasure out of being bitchy to complete strangers on the internet?

Really does my head in. So blimmin unnecessary.

Amagama · 03/09/2024 02:27

I divided my ornaments and bits and bobs into four, which I change every season. Saves on dusting and changes things up. Not themed, except for Xmas snow globe.

Love this. I'm sure there'll be some autumn decorating fans who think this sounds genuinely fantastic😂
No doubt they'll be wishing they had done their summer decor exactly like that, especially the amazing wasp mobile😉

I’m not mocking anyone actually - I think it’s quite aspirational!

And I believe it's a hybrid boat, only can power off electricity for 30 minutes at a time. I assume for the rest of the time the seals happily grab a rope and pull it around joyfully for their tourist friends.

Built for over 500 passengers. So popular that they've now built 3. So 1500 unnecessary trips at a time to the Antarctic in a cruise ship filled with "tat", because apparently that's what extra duvet covers and cushions are for the plebs.

Also you have to fly to Argentina to board the ship. No doubt on the back of a swan though.

xxSideshowAuntSallyxx · 03/09/2024 06:27

I'm shocked people have the time and energy (and storage space) to change ornaments and cushions, throws, pictures etc when the seasons change.

I love a themed room but it's either country, retro or seaside not Autumn or Summer, and it stays like thar all year round. Christmas tat just gets added and taken down (and I have my Christmas decs up for as short as possible).

All these people with no energy, have you seen a doctor? Unless you're ill, it's not normal to have so little energy.

Time? You have time to be on mumsnet though.

Storage? You're shocked that some people have bigger houses/more space than others? Confused

All this fake shock. 🙄

Yeah, you can offer helpful advice to people on other threads on here and think you're an ok person but be ripped to pieces over a ceramic pumpkin. lol

LilBowWow · 03/09/2024 06:56

All these people that can’t find 20 minutes a couple of times a year to hang some stuff up yet have all the time in the world to be an unfunny twat on the internet.

Misswright88 · 03/09/2024 07:05

Wish I had never visited this thread. People are so gross and sneery 🙁

Mermaidsarereal · 03/09/2024 07:14

I've put up an autumn door wreath, doormat and garland for now and will get more out at the beginning of October which are more Halloween themed. Can't understand people asking why would you decorate for autumn in the UK, why not? Americans have been doing it for years and I love autumn so personally I want some autumn accessories in my own house that I pay for!
