hello, a fly by to remind myself I have got loads of stuff to do...

I have done absolutely nothing over the last two days! I've been doing an online watercolour course and I've also been gripped following a long running thread on the feminism boards. Need to get my act together as we are accumulating a big pile of stuff to take to recycling/the tip. I also managed to find a big enough board to do the birthday gift I got of the paint by numbers of the dog 😄So that is ready to do.

WinterFrog · 13/02/2025 13:53

Oh my goodness @petalpower that is so much to deal with. I hope you are able to take some time for yourself.

Hello @SingleThreadJoiner I hope you have a wonderful half term next week!

My yesterday got very busy, quite unexpectedly, so very little was done and there is definitely no soup. I've also been out all morning. I have had lunch, am about to shower, and then I intend to 'dress to shoes' as per Flylady ( but minus bra just because I can!) and do a bit of a reset around the house. I have the place to myself till 7ish which pleases me 😊
And then I might pick up my novel ( a Dan Brown, should anyone care 😆) or make a start on Unforgotten on telly 🤫

Happy Thursday everyone xx

Aria999 · 13/02/2025 16:54

Hello folks. Sorry to hear about the hard times with elderly parents @WinterFrog , @petalpower

Taking a breath after sending a hopefully final-ish version of the spreadsheet tool to the client.

Still loads to do that doesn't count as an extra project though so probably not back in that space yet... housework, tax returns, sort out 501c3 application for parent organization...

Mumtobabyhavoc · 13/02/2025 16:54

Winter, sounds frustrating with the care home. A book??? I can only dream of reading a book...
Spirit,* I have just started *following a thread that has me quite curious, it's sad, resilient, and really got me. Like reading a good book, but someone's actual life. I don't think I'll post on it, but God I'm hoping this person will be ok.
Single, we're just getting over colds here, too. Bloody school. 😠😂 I had Havoc home for a week, then last week took Havoc in and I masked as I was still congested and sneezing. It's play school, so parent participation is req'd, but I would've rather been home. 😷
Petal, I feel for you. 💐 It's so hard when we have to manage everything for our parents.

I'm itching to resume painting again. Still haven't found my lap-top. Laundry is piling up. Lots to tackle here. 😔

OP posts:
Aria999 · 13/02/2025 16:58

Ah yes, laundry... thanks for the reminder @Mumtobabyhavoc that definitely has to be my next job. After a cup of tea.

Sorry to hear you have all been ill. The kids have been a bit under the weather here and there's a hideous vomiting bug ravaging DD preschool but so far I have managed to keep them in school.....

I got confirmation that DD has a spot in DS school for kindergarten in September- as expected but still a relief to have it as I wasn't sure if something would go wrong and I had no plan B!

Deleted edit as I found the edit button

Mumtobabyhavoc · 13/02/2025 17:19

Good news re Kindy, Aria! That's a relief, isn't it?
How are you feeling about your little one moving on?
I'm in a deep state of mourning for Havoc growing up and can get teary looking at pics from a year or two ago... 😭

OP posts:
FourSeasonsLobelia · 13/02/2025 17:43

aaah we call it kindy too where I am from! (nostalgia vibes)

Great news @Aria999 I know the low grade worry when you hope it will sort itself out but it's not sorted yet.

many Thanks thoughts to @WinterFrog and @petalpower about ill relatives. It is such a strain, I know.

@SpiritOfEdna I am really only MN active on this thread, the dinner threads and some of the feminist threads where I have learned huge amounts. And enjoyed the wit and wisdom of so many MNetters. Plus I have just joined (under another name) a thread about films. My resolution of spending less time on MN has crashed and burned. Grin

Not much to report here. DS has been a bit under the weather but we are mid way through some antibiotics and things are looking up.

Hope everyone is fine and well and all loved ones as well.

Quite positive really! They are cute and adorable when they are little but more fun and better company as they get older, and I am so proud of them learning and maturing.

WinterFrog · 14/02/2025 07:46

Good morning! It's so easy to get distracted isn't it @SpiritOfEdna? It's amazing what you can learn online. What inspired you to do a watercolour course?
I have a course in conversional French that I started about 6 years ago. I'd like to get stuck back into that. My schoolgirl French is very rusty but I was surprised how much I remembered when I tried.

Sorry @Mumtobabyhavoc about the reading...I well remember being in the trenches with my little ones! They were so cute when they were tiny, and now they're wonderful adults. A friend sent me a video of her four month old being delighted by a musical mobile, and it brought it all back! I am amazed at how much you get done with such young children.

Great news about kindergarten @Aria999! 😊
Has anyone seen our @RunningKatie? 👋 if you're reading 💐
I hope DS is on the mend @FourSeasonsLobelia I ended up spending more time on MN too yesterday. Found myself defending a busy mum regarding the state of her kitchen, and then got into trouble for recommending flylady 🙈 😆
But my house is a lot straighter than it was yesterday lunchtime. Still no soup though.

I have a pile of paperwork that needs shredding or filing so that can be today's job.

Happy Valentine's Day everyone 💝

Mumtobabyhavoc · 14/02/2025 09:06

Winter, was that the one where she posted a pic of her messy kitchen asking if she was the only one? Ha ha. Saw it. Didn't linger there, though.

It's 1am here. Still awake. Stupidly. 🤦‍♀️
I might buy a cake tomorrow (today). 😛

OP posts:
Aria999 · 14/02/2025 13:29

lol you would not catch me posting a picture of my kitchen currently, I think MN would lynch me....

WinterFrog · 14/02/2025 14:07

It was, @Mumtobabyhavoc 😆 A bog standard messy kitchen. I have seen hundreds like it.
@Aria999 it would be fun if we were all brave enough! I invited the OP to join us here 💕 Could have been a set up though...and if so, she got pages in response and I ended up hiding it ( along with 29 other threads, apparently) And aibu.

I've been visiting my mother and she was an absolute delight today bless her. Must be the sunshine, and maybe the fluid chart is working.
The whole home is decorated for Valentine's Day today. They celebrate at every opportunity which is lovely!
Now to get on to my pile of papers. Littlest is visiting later, and we've just heard that she's expecting a sibling 😁

Aria999 · 14/02/2025 14:16

🥰 congrats on the expected second grandchild @WinterFrog!

Aria999 · 14/02/2025 15:53

Kitchen now tidy and clean! DH is a wonderful cook but boy he makes a mess. And both of us would rather relax in the evening than clear up immediately.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 14/02/2025 16:20
I Love You GIF by Sesame Street

I'm a clean as I go cook. I need clear space. So it gets put back, washed or put into the dishwasher whatever it is. 😄

Winter, lovely news in your family. Yea! 🤗

Little sleep here. DC were awake before 7. We chatted, played and I begged for sleep and quiet cuddles before finally getting up. 😭. Coffee is ready. Put a fruit platter together. Got dc changed. Brushed baby's teeth. Got Havoc a drink. Laid out dc's clothes. Brushed my teeth etc. and plopped Havoc in front of tv Cat in the Hat while I nurse baby. Plan in breakfast and take both dc to pre-school. Will be a juggling act, but I take both at the same time/same class occasionally. 😵‍💫

Aria999 · 14/02/2025 16:24

I try to be too @Mumtobabyhavoc though I am not perfect at it by any means.

I feel like you are quite a naturally tidy person?

Mumtobabyhavoc · 14/02/2025 16:27

I think , yes, but, absolute mayhem behind door number 3. 🫣

Awesome!

WinterFrog · 15/02/2025 08:16

Thank you! We're all very excited though mum to be is feeling very sick, poor love.
I love the gif!
Congrats on the fig! I don't think I've ever eaten one.
I got my papers sorted out and filed. I need to figure out how to scan and store digitally, and not just on my phone. I use my phone for everything as laptop is ancient. It worries me that my whole life is on one small device. Which is why I've kept these papers in a good old fashioned ring binder as well.
Cannot believe it's the weekend again already! First time in my life I'm working weekdays (p/t) with regular weekends and bank hols off. Now I know what all the fuss is about! I did a have a break from working but then the days all blended into one anyway.
The clutter has crept into my bedroom, so I will tackle that this morning. Then we are going to a national trust property this afternoon.
But first, my second coffee!

Happy Saturday everyone 💐

FourSeasonsLobelia · 15/02/2025 10:48

Such wonderful news @WinterFrog ! many many congratulations to you all!❤

petalpower · 15/02/2025 17:29

Congratulations on your news @WinterFrog ! How lovely!

petalpower · 16/02/2025 09:57

I saw the kitchen thread too - very brave to post a picture and ask for opinions on MN!
Now back from oldie visiting and have had a bit of a house reset. Adult DC were here whilst we were away and are pretty good but the toilet roll replacing and recycling emptying fairy hadn’t visited in our absence and the laundry basket was pretty full too. Considering the time of year and weather (we had some surprise snow last night) I’ve done well at getting laundry done and mostly dry out on the line - ironing is today’s job. Yesterday’s extra job was to wash and hoover my car which was filthy. I think today’s extra projecteering job will be to find a drawer to do a quick sort through.
Have a great day everyone!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 16/02/2025 21:01

Good for you, Petal. Laundry was my big thing today, too.
I folded and put away dc's laundry, folded and packed some of dc's clothes for donation, garbaged a couple items (no recycling), put a large load of my own laundry in that is just about done, so I'll hang that up and my extra was a really good wash of the coffee pot and filter basket. I'm now running vinegar water through the coffee maker and boiling the kettle with same.
