Loving the updates! Gosh you are a long way away Peridot!
I tried to make crepes when i first got married, attempting to emulate my mother. I eventually learnt to cook at daily project rates. I still would not attempt a dinner party! My mothe is a hard act to follow.

That's interesting about hard drive destruction. I have often wondered what to do with the few ancient bits and bobs I have. Will look into it.
Just a fly by and big hello to everyone today 👋
I'm either going to do a cleaning blitz or visit my mother. Both require some uninterrupted time really. I will ponder on it over a coffee. Dh is out today so leaning towards a blitz.

SpiritOfEdna · 07/02/2025 13:10

considering I broke Dry Jan into a Dry-ish Feb with a couple of very small bottles of wine last night sitting outside freezing (pub 'garden') I am being very productive today workwise and homewise
Today

  • ironed out some tracing paper that I'd cut out to make a pattern for some cushions - they may get made this weekend as I have the fabric
  • more shredding !
  • I've updated MyFitnessPal as am on a weight loss mission atm
  • I need to up my walking as I registered last night for a talk on walking the Camino Way - I want to go late August/early September. Poor doggo wont know what hit her but as she is looking hopeful for a walk, will do that shortly.
  • just ordered a fabric furniture cleaning kit from Amazon - the JL one I wanted is permanently out of stock
  • My extra task for today is parcel up the hard drive ready to be posted
  • Washing - gym kit again. Although I need to try and get the filter compartment back in dryer - or everything will be hanging over radiators....
  • The Doggo has disemboweled every toy she has so need a mending session - luckily I have lots of stuffing
  • prep for a deep clean of living room once the kit ordered above arrives
  • I want to sort the tool box out - need to get it out of the shed
That's all for now, SoE, have a good day
WinterFrog · 07/02/2025 13:32

Hello all! I've limped over from the elderly parents board. I went to mum's in the end yesterday in the end. She's addling my brains with sometimes being muddled and somes talking perfect sense. It's a hydration issue for mother i think. But it means i don't know which of her stories to believe. Sometimes the things she says need something done about them.

Still no blitzed house. Going out now, so probably be tomorrow as had admin all morning. DH is in charge of food. Or there'll be no dinner. His choice 😂 There's a thread on chat about what your male alter ego would be. I have a suspicion there'd be a chorus of ltb if i based my post on the week. Fortunately DH is a diamond and I pull my weight most of the time.
Doubt there will be a daily project unless a quick swish if the loo counts....
It's hammering it down with rain now. Marvellous!
Happy friday everyone 💐 ☔

FourSeasonsLobelia · 08/02/2025 08:28

Morning all.

The Camino way @SpiritOfEdna ! That sounds amazing. I followed a long-running thread on here from a MNetter who did that quite recently. It looked incredible.

Hope your mum is less muddled @WinterFrog it sounds very stressful and distressing. Thanks

I've just tidied the kitchen while DH takes the DCs swimming. Then we are going to the ballet - just at the lovely theatre about 45 minutes away. But lunch is on the agenda and a trip to HMV as DS1 has got his blood up about getting the box set of Blackadder. Apparently his history teacher told the class that it was Blackadder that made him obsessed with history so DS wants to check it out.

It will be a nice step out of our ordinary weekends and I am looking forward to it all.

I hope everyone has a lovely day and weekend. Thanks

sortmyselfoutagain · 08/02/2025 17:39

Hello everyone! It's been a while since I last checked in. My mental health hasn't been great recently and everything feels like an uphill struggle even more than usual. I'm not really sure what to do about it long term and it feels like another thing to have to deal with that I just don't have the headspace for.
I'm trying not to put too much pressure on myself but I really do need to get back into doing one project a day as ticking things off my to do list gives me such a boost.
Today's one job is to put the cross stitch I did last year into a frame to display in my bathroom. I have a million jobs on the list but that one seems easiest.
I'm sorry I've not been able to read back the last few pages but I hope everyone is doing ok.

FourSeasonsLobelia · 08/02/2025 18:35

Hello @sortmyselfoutagain ! Good to see you.

The whole Daily Project idea was started with the idea of just doing on thing when life in general seems a little overwhelming so you are well and truly a True Daily Projecteer!

I hope you are okay and please know we are always here when you need. Thanks

I've not been achieving much lately. Mainly regular house stuff and not much of that either. I think tomorrow I might book in a tip run for 'sometime' this week. I have been putting it off tbh. Smile

Love to all. xxxxx

Mumtobabyhavoc · 08/02/2025 21:14

Welcome back @sortmyselfoutagain 🩷

Mumtobabyhavoc · 08/02/2025 22:16

I've just cleaned the bathroom and tied up two bags of garbage.
Yesterday was an unintentional extra. Havoc had a poo accident that caused me to inspect everywhere Havoc might've been sitting and playing, then vacuumed so I could steam mop/clean again. So, floors, area rugs, both couches, dining room chairs and bathroom floor.
It's very clean here at mine. 😂

WinterFrog · 09/02/2025 07:24

I hope you had a lovely day yesterday @FourSeasonsLobelia It sounds joyous!

Hugs to you @sortmyselfoutagain you are always welcome here and you are in good company 💕 My MH is a bit precarious at times, particularly when the pressures mount up. The cross stitch going into a frame sounds like a good project ( I have yet to even start a small simple tapestry set that I was given two Christmases ago)

Poor Havoc @Mumtobabyhavoc These things happen. I'm impressed at the steam cleaning. One of our littles had a wee accident just inside the front door where someone had kicked off their shoes, and managed to get quite a lot of it inside one of them. Excellent, though accidental, aim! Owner of shoe learnt their lesson 😂

Now I have 'Man I dig those rhythm and blues' as an ear worm! (American Pie)

DH handled dinner on Friday by booking a table in a local pub. Unexpected but very nice.

I hope all are very well today. I'm meeting some friends this morning, and this afternoon's project is....um.....probably move things and wipe the kitchen counters properly. There are crumbs under the microwave, I know that for certain.

Happy Sunday 💐 ☕

petalpower · 09/02/2025 09:58

Hope you have a great trip @Peridot1 . That sounds really difficult with your mum @WinterFrog - solidarity from another care home resident daughter! If you think she’s not getting enough fluids would the care home do a fluids chart? My dad’s one does that because of his dementia and high UTI risk. Welcome back again @sortmyselfoutagain . One extra job a day is exactly what this thread is about.
I really don’t know where the time goes. I often intend to post on here and just don’t get round to it. We’re back on the oldies visiting trip again this week so will be away for a few days staying with elderly PIL and visiting my dad and stepmother in their care homes. Also hoping to catch up with other family whilst we’re there as both DH and I come from the same area originally. Not sure what my extra job will be today - out this afternoon at a concert DH is playing in and Sunday mornings are normally quite slow and relaxed.
Have a good day all.

FoolShapeHeart · 09/02/2025 14:39

One extra job a day sounds potentially manageable, may I join you? I've been lurking for a long time, I blitz-read a few threads to psych myself into the right mindset for clearing/cleaning, but a little every day would be more sustainable.

FourSeasonsLobelia · 09/02/2025 16:15

Yay and welcome @FoolShapeHeart ! We do love newbies and lurkers joining our little crew- and posters coming back to join as well!

Thanks

Just a quick plop post drive by here a about to make a chicken pasta tray bake thing. Lots of stirring of white sauce. I like stirring.

Thnaks @WinterFrog we had a lovely day yesterday- and the Dcs and DH were riveted by the ballet. No-one wanted to leave at intermission which was the promise I made to them that they could if they wished. Otherwise they would never had gone through the door to begin with. Smile

Mumtobabyhavoc · 09/02/2025 20:09

That's great, Lobelia! I love ballet, so that gives me hope taking the dc in the future. 🤞

Peridot1 · 09/02/2025 21:21

G’day from Sydney.

Today’s jobs here are laundry, making a spaghetti bolognaise for dinner, ironing and packing to go to Melbourne tomorrow.

Welcome @FoolShapeHeart. One job a day gets a lot done eventually!

@sortmyselfoutagain - hope you are ok. I think we can all get overwhelmed at times.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 10/02/2025 01:49

How ya goin' @Peridot1 ? 😉
I love Australia! How's the weather? When I was there the forecast was almost always, "fair." 😂
Beware the "maggies."

OP posts:
Peridot1 · 10/02/2025 02:43

It’s been really hot but we just had a big thunderstorm. Hot down in Melbourne for a few days but then cools down.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 10/02/2025 03:24

Peridot, some of the hardest rain I've ever experienced was in Australia. ☔️

OP posts:
Peridot1 · 10/02/2025 06:14

@Mumtobabyhavoc - we did ten years in Asia - some of the monsoon storms were incredible.

SingleThreadJoiner · 10/02/2025 15:24

Well I opened up the tab this morning and then got distracted and didn't write anything 😆story of my life really!

Glad you're safely arrived @Peridot1 . A hug to @sortmyselfoutagain and big hello to @FoolShapeHeart - all are welcome here!

@WinterFrog the story of the wee-ed shoe made me laugh out loud...probably not so funny at the time though...

Super grey and windy and grim here which makes it hard to get the enthusiasm for a new week. My extra task for today is to call up a builder for some jobs - he said after 5pm so it will be a little while yet before I can do that. Assuming of course he picks up the phone...

Other achievement from yesterday was getting D to try on her snow boots from last year and of course they are way too small - so off I go to Decathlon later this week to upgrade. Her feet grow SO fast!

SpiritOfEdna · 10/02/2025 15:46

@FoolShapeHeart welcome and @sortmyselfoutagain I bet that cross stitch is beautiful in or out of the frame.
Today

  • another early start with pilates - not as early as last week and I now have a car, but am flagging now. Lovely session this morning, we were doing a cool down and I could see a slice of blue sky - but it's freezing out
  • ironing
  • shredding
  • my extra job today is to sort out stuff for an online art course otherwise I'll get to a bit where I need something I don't have and won't return to it for a year (cough cough)
  • more stuff in the pile to go the tip.
  • SpiritDoggo needs another walk as my steps are abysmal today
  • Completed a questionnaire for NHS
  • Cleaned up sofa using new upholstery cleaning kit :fingerscrossed it dries nicely
That's all for today, have a good one, SoE
FoolShapeHeart · 10/02/2025 21:21

Thank you for the warm welcome 🤗

We have loads of clearing and decorating to do. I started with sorting out some of DC's clothes and looking for some paperwork I needed (I didn't find it, but now have less places to look!), and choosing some of DC's neglected toys for them to look through today. It was a slow start, but it was a start!

Today I helped DC work through their mess of current toys and clothes, and washed my winter coat (I would have rather waited till spring but it was too muddy to last). I'll re-waterproof it tomorrow.

Slow and steady...

Mumtobabyhavoc · 11/02/2025 20:17

Ok, right.
Basic oven clean. ☑️
Coloured lights on deck taken down and replaced with pink for Valentine's (one pink and one white to keep it bright) ☑️
Banana bread made.☑️
Put dc's washed too small shoes into a box ready for
donation. ☑️

All done before noon, so feeling good! 🤗

Morning all! Thank you for the solidarity @petalpower 💕 Mother is on what they call fluid watch, and it's on the care plan which the carers all have on an app. What works best is what another poster described as cultural competence, so I'll say I've made a pot of tea would you like some, or I'm gasping let's get that kettle on. The carers don't push fluid as much as I'd like. They are neutral....'would you like a drink' and she says no because she'll only need a wee. Frustrating! How are your family doing? I know you are stretched in all directions 💐

Welcome @FoolShapeHeart it's lovely to see you here!

Big wave to regulars and lurkers 👋 I am off out walking shortly, then I have a few errands to do alongside an appointment. I do need to change bedding today, and I'd like to make a cauldron of smug soup as there is space in the freezer for a change. My errands have been nagging at me for over a week because they involve standing in queues...

Happy Wednesday 😁

petalpower · 12/02/2025 10:15

Usual craziness here @WinterFrog ! Dad was in A and E the night before we got here so yesterday when I visited was very tired. Because of his dementia he keeps packing his clothes and belongings - no sign of any socks, pants, pyjamas or slippers yesterday as they’ve all gone walkabout as had one lens of his glasses so I had a fun trip to his opticians to sort out glasses and Tesco to buy clothing and spare cheap reading glasses to tide him over until the proper glasses are repaired and the lens replaced. Double carehome visiting today as we’re also seeing my stepmother who is in a different home to dad. Also need to pick up and set up a new tv for PIL and MIL (nearly 90) wants WhatsApp installing. The fun never stops!! Just as well I don’t work now as all the oldies are 3 hours drive away.
Have a good day all and keep on projecteering!

SingleThreadJoiner · 13/02/2025 09:47

Sending solidarity to all of you dealing with parents and family of various ages and frailty. 💕💕

Busy here as ever with work, as I'm off for half term next week and need to get lots of things done / delivered before I disappear. Don't expect to be logging in much next week here either but I look forward to catching up when I get back!

Mostly focusing on packing, laundry pre-packing, checking in for flights, etc. Both D and I have a stinking cold, but so far it's not as bad as the many many illnesses that seem to be tearing through our school...
