Great to have you back @sortmyselfoutagain !

I like the idea of sorting out computer docs. I could do with that myself!

I ended up doing a dash to the school uniform shop for new trousers. I simply did not notice the Dcs growing!

Today is school run, sort out house for the cleaner and sort out non-fitting uniform for the second hand shop.

petalpower · 04/09/2024 09:18

One of my jobs was to unsubscribe from companies that I’d once bought something from and were clogging up my inbox. It made a big difference!
Yesterday my lovely friend came over - she works at a charity shop and will always take donations so I managed to get rid of 20 things that way. I’m still doing my 2024 items declutterred and out of the house this year so it all helps.

SpiritOfEdna · 04/09/2024 10:37

Lovely new thread to start autumn off 🤣
Today:

  • Transfer deposit to the company who are going to spruce up my mother’s grave. Quite spendy but she is worth it ! Siblings will chip in
  • bag of clothes ready to be picked up from outside - am hoping they have gone I shall peep out in my PJs in a bit to see if picked up. Am hoping the van I just heard was them!
  • The dog vomited copiously in my bedroom last night - I cleared it up but my room smells vaguely of chicken 🤣 Need to open the windows and have another clean. Needless to say she slept elsewhere 🤣
  • Send my walking boots off for repair - they took me trekking to Base Camp so am very attached to them
  • I need to do a bunch of filing

Right, busy day at work, good luck to all those with back-to-schoolers and new jobs, SoE

SingleThreadJoiner · 04/09/2024 14:05

Hello everyone, happy September!

Thanks @Mumtobabyhavoc for starting round 6, massive congrats to @WinterLobelia for the new job (and the excellent negotiation skills), and much commiserations to @SpiritOfEdna for the dog vomit....and happy new school year to those of you who are still in it!

D and I came back from our vacation last night (H stayed behind for a work thing in the city we flew back from). School doesn't start til tomorrow but I foolishly didn't book today as leave so extremely tricky juggling going on at home, and so much work to be getting on with again. Also noone was free for a playdate and the weather is vile so no playgrounds either!

BUT - I have been grocery shopping with the D, done two loads of laundry, checked that school shoes still fit (PHEW). As 'extra' jobs, I finally washed a coat that had been lying around for ages by the washing machine (though I didn't scrub it properly so still scruffy) and listed a book on the local whatsapp chat that has been claimed, and found another three to take to the charity shop and actually did that when I went out with the D.

I think that will do for today!

Peridot1 · 04/09/2024 15:10

Lots of productivity going on. I’m feeling very Septemberish. And I don’t want to. I want it to still be summer.

I’m feeling a bit in limbo as our display units in dining area have still not been built. But the top cupboards were just dropped off and the stone top is being fitted tomorrow and the units will hopefully be finished on Friday except for the electrics which will be next week.

I’m not motivated to get anything done really until that is all finished.

I did do usual kitchen/vacuum/laundry done this morning plus PT session.

Aria999 · 04/09/2024 21:22

Hi everyone. I have 2 minutes to drink coffee before I get the DCs!

Hope the trousers situation was satisfactorily resolved @RunningKatie !

Today I have built the small additional storage unit to go next to the shoe rack for hats etc

And done some emergency cleanup as we have a new babysitter coming tonight and I am embarrassed! Still not perfect but slightly less immediately post apocalypse than it was...

Also finished a project and sent it to the client.

Next up, get DCs, go to Kung fu, followed by date night!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 04/09/2024 21:32

Hi all! 😃
I managed two loads of laundry before heading out just after 10am for med appt, pharmacy pick-up and appt book, med lab for pick up and appt query, bank, Costco and home. All told nearly 3 hrs with driving. 😵‍💫
The med appts stuff was a big "x" off my endless to-do list. 🥳

Lunch is on the table and Havoc is eating happily and excited for the cupcakes I brought home for dessert. Nursing baby atm then lunch for me. And a latte.

OP posts:
Mumtobabyhavoc · 04/09/2024 22:36

Have now cleaned up much anticipated latte and broken saucer from floor. While singing and dancing with Havoc I made a rookie mistake and forgot about baby crawling, baby decided coffee looked appealing. Thankfully it was a cold latte, and not hot, as baby was covered in both coffee and milk. New load of laundry in now. 🤦‍♀️

OP posts:
WinterLobelia · 05/09/2024 06:37

Oh @Mumtobabyhavoc Thanks

Hope you got a latte eventually!

Peridot1 · 05/09/2024 09:59

Oh @Mumtobabyhavoc that’s annoying! It’s funny how you get used to drinking almost cold drinks with little ones around. DS is now 23 and I can still drink lukewarm tea as it was just how I got used to it.

Slow morning here as it’s raining hard and that has put paid to my plans to go for a nice long walk and I’m sulking. I’m also achy after yesterday’s PT session.

Workmen here installing the stone in the new units.

I did a list of things to do last night. Now I just need to find it!

SpiritOfEdna · 05/09/2024 12:24

I have a vision of babyhavoc being all angelic until your back is turned mumtobabyhavoc - maybe you should change your name to mumto2babyhavocs* *😄
So the car sounds I heard yesterday were the sounds of my bag of clothes being taken away.
Today

  • sort out next bag - it'll be CDs and books
  • need to make a list of house things to be done next year - along the renovations line. Moan alert! I am not sure why some businesses have online forms when they never answer and you end up phoning them grrr
  • Finance admin - DONE
  • more filing
  • more filing
  • more filing
Guess I'll go and do some filing, have a good day all, SoE
Mumtobabyhavoc · 05/09/2024 15:43

Peridot, I had made an actual cold foamed milk latte. I started doing it when it was so hot in July instead of adding ice and now I'm 😋hooked. Reminds me a bit of an affogato.
SoE, with evil eyes behind my back, I bet: mwaa haa haaa..... what can I get into? 😼

Two more med appts today. I don't think I'll get much done. I also need to get into my file box again. I need to purge and shred. Horror bedroom is haunting me, too.

OP posts:
Peridot1 · 05/09/2024 16:30

@Mumtobabyhavoc I love an affogato! Sounds nice.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 05/09/2024 16:50

Peridot, i pour hot double strength coffee in my cup between 1/4 to 1/3 full, and use a milk frother to foam cold milk then pour over coffee. It's great bc it doesn't get watered down by melting ice as in an iced coffee. I've experimented with adding a bit of lightly whipped whipping cream and that is really good, too. Today I added cinnamon to the milk then foamed it.

Aria999 · 05/09/2024 19:24

@Mumtobabyhavoc that does sound nice!

Though I have always been a bit suspicious of cold coffee as bearing too much spiritual resemblance to hot coffee that didn't get drunk quickly enough.

Cellar clearing progresses slowly. I have dealt with the accumulated pile of 3 years x 2 kid's artwork. Recycling bin is now on the full side.

Stopping for late lunch after which I need to face the putting away of all the stuff I found in the cellar that belongs upstairs 😫

RunningKatie · 05/09/2024 20:20

I had cold coffee today, because I'd forgotten about it rather than by design! I only drink black coffee so all the fancy stuff is wasted on me.
Office day today, so I've got nothing useful done at home, I've just ordered a birthday present and set DH to organise another.
Both DC are back in school, it's not gone 100% smoothly but so far so good and I can only hope that it continues.

SingleThreadJoiner · 05/09/2024 22:34

Greetings all,
@Mumtobabyhavoc when I read about your lost latte last night I gasped in sympathy!
I am a great lover of cold coffee, I have a cold brew pot thingy and it is my pride and joy all through spring and summer. And autumn. And sometimes winter... 😍

@SpiritOfEdna , H and I have to do a to-do-list-for-the-house too - walk around the house looking at every room properly - but it never seems to be the right time for it, GAH

Impressed with @Aria999 's cellar blitz!

D went back to school today, Y1, luckily all very straightforward and cheerful. I acquired an unexpected task as she decided to carry a soft toy to school, and promptly dropped on the pavement as she was examining a snail, and it got a bit slimy from the snail trail - luckily it is very washable! Went straight in the wash when I got home!

Other out-of-routine achievement for today was getting in touch with a local co-working space, I WFH almost all the time and am wondering if it's worth investing in a pass for this place which would give me 5 days a month - a change of scene might be good. I have a trial day there next week.

Almost the weekend already...

Mumtobabyhavoc · 05/09/2024 23:14

@SingleThreadJoiner a kindred! 😃
You have to try lightly whipped cream on top, then!!!

OP posts:
Peridot1 · 06/09/2024 10:12

Looks nice @Mumtobabyhavoc although I’m not a fan of milky coffee. Can’t do lattes as they make me a bit queasy. Ice cream in an affogato is a totally different beast! 😂

Cellar clearing sounds good @Aria999. We used to have one when we lived overseas in a couple of houses. Great space but it does mean you store so much stuff. We only ever cleared it when we were moving countries. Which is a great decluttering motivator!

@SpiritOfEdna - we need to do a full house list too. Not till all the current work is finished though! And the coffers have built up a bit more cash!

I found my list from yesterday and managed to tick a few jobs off. One was clearing out the fridge veg drawer. Also de-cobwebbed the window and door frame in the utility room.

Hope all back to school peeps settle and are happy. Facebook memories reminded me that 13 years ago today was DS’s second day at his new school in England after we moved from Budapest and he hated me, hated his dad, hated the school, hated the UK and wanted to live homeless on the streets of Hungary rather than be here. And it was raining and the dogs escaped. I wanted to escape too!

Today’s list -

  • dishwasher and kitchen
  • washing
  • vacuum
  • do DS’s bed nicely as joiner wants to finish wardrobes and take pictures
  • ironing
  • de-cobweb kitchen windows
  • build an ark in case the sodding rain doesn’t ever stop

Have a great day all.

petalpower · 07/09/2024 10:30

Morning all!
Seem to have picked up some sort of horrible cold type bug so am having a very slow start to the day. Not much planned for the weekend which is just as well I think.
Managed to drop off another bag of things to a charity shop yesterday when I went to the hairdressers and have listed a couple of autumn/ winter coats on eBay. My quest to rid myself of 2024 items this year continues!
Hope you all have a lovely weekend.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 08/09/2024 01:31

Sorry to hear you've got a cold, Petal.

I've had a rough few days w/o good quality, or enough, sleep. Hadn't helped that dc have taken forever to go to sleep. I think it is due to increased heat and humidity here. 🤔
Anyway, plopped Havoc in front of tv a while ago and opened dreaded box of paper files. Shredded enough to fill a kitchen garbage bag. Still have a lot to go, but was a good start on back end tasks I ignore. I then sort of weeded through a bunch of kids clothes neighbour dropped off and pulled out a pair of like new rain pants that will fit Havoc. Need to dedicate a couple hours to sort properly. Anything I'm not keeping will go to charity and luckily I can also take items to school for other kids.
Have now got dinner on.

OP posts:
Mumtobabyhavoc · 08/09/2024 03:42

I've buzzed around since dinner: bleaching a load of towels, vacuumed then emptied and cleaned out canister and washed filters, then washed floors and some baseboards. Have put The Sound of Music on tv for me the dc to enjoy.

Hope you are feeling better @petalpower

You have been very busy @Mumtobabyhavoc !

Hi to everyone.

Not much being achieved here I am sad to say. But need to do some tip runs this week.

Hope all are well!

Peridot1 · 08/09/2024 11:13

I’ve started with a cold too @petalpower. Yuck. Hope you are on the mend.

Our units in the dining area went in on Friday and are almost finished. A couple of glass shelves still to come. It looks really good though so we are pretty happy. I need to clean them and start putting stuff away. Energy is lacking though.

I think today will just be a lazy day.

SingleThreadJoiner · 08/09/2024 12:10

Hope everyone's colds clear soon! Too early in the year to be starting with that sort of thing!

Congratulations @Peridot1 on the almost finished units, it must be so satisfying!!

Fairly easy going weekend here, usual loads of laundry, H put the dishwasher on a cleaning cycle. As an extra job, yesterday D and I went through one of her bookshelves and weeded out books she no longer reads to make space for some chapter books. Some of the weeded ones will be donated, some returned to the people who lent them to us for their future grandchildren, and some will be kept for any future grandchildren of ours!
