aaah hope you feel better soon too @Peridot1

I need to do a book weed as well @SingleThreadJoiner

Today i took the DCs to see the new Beetlejuice. It was ... patchy.

I need to do a load of washing and get the Dcs uniforms ready for the week ahead. I am also weeding out clothes of mine that don't fit; I don't wear' that don't suit me or which I bought as aspirational clothes for when i transformed from a teletubbie to a tall Scandinavian blonde. Now I'm 51 I have to realise that sometimes it's just not going to happen. Grin

RunningKatie · 08/09/2024 15:53

We've found Beetlejuice on Netflix @WinterLobelia and dc1 is going to watch it with dh. Then I can ship them off to the cinema to see the latest one, dh will sleep through it anyway!
We've been fun splash swimming this morning, and made a tenative plan for when we'll go over Christmas. Apologies for throwing that word around! There's an outside lazy river which is joyful even in rubbish northern England weather. The dc are old enough now to do the flumes without me so I get some proper swimming in whilst waiting for them to appear at the bottom. I've been told I'm still to get in the pool, we're thankfully not at the stage where I just sit and spectate.
Hope all colds shift quickly and everyone is settling into September routines smoothly.

WinterLobelia · 08/09/2024 16:00

The second one was alot more cartoonishly gory than I expected! @RunningKatie . Michael Keaton is fantastic and it is such a joy to see Winona Ryder again. The Dcs have gorged on Stranger things so I knew she was back in circulation, but I was such a fan back in the day! I hope your DH and DS1 enjoy it!

Love the idea of flumes and a splash pool! I took the Dcs swimming yesterday.

I've ironed the DC uniforms now and have separated out my work trousers and work shirts. Nothing too inspiring, but it will do.

Hope everyone has a lovely evening!!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 08/09/2024 18:12

Morning all 😊
Sorry to hear another one of "us" has become ill. Get well soon Peridot. 💐
I thought the new Beetlejuice looked quite dark... will wait for it to be on Crave/Prime/Netflix.
Got a tad more sleep last night, so getting woken up at 6:45am wasn't quite as painful. Made pancakes for breakfast and a caramel latte. Have got a load of towels/baby washcloths in the wash - will be an extra long hot wash. Watching Barbie for the 4th time... I catch a bit more each watch. Very clever.

OP posts:
WinterLobelia · 08/09/2024 18:36

Oh I wanted to watch Barbie. I shall now. Smile

SpiritOfEdna · 09/09/2024 13:53

Am started with a cold here too - jumper on as I'm freezing, jumper off because I am boiling. Luckily not too busy a work day so I don't have to be fully on...

Today

  • completed the walk round of the house yesterday, so now have a list of essentials versus cosmetic - today I need to start requesting quotes - so one down (sandblasting the front of the house) many to go. And then I'll have a lie down 😄
  • I need a desk tidy again
  • I am wondering whether I should chuck out some broken mobiles or get them fixed and grab the lost photos from them...
  • got a bunch of bike lights that need to go on the bikes.
That's it for today, have a good one, SoE
WinterLobelia · 09/09/2024 14:00

Afternoon all. Hope everyone under the weather feels better- and that your cold does not become fully fledged and goes away asap @SpiritOfEdna .

I'm tidying up the Dcs play room today which mainly means I am putting clothes away because it doubles as my ironing room and triples as my Room of Doom where everything gets dumped.

I am also testing the Dcs coming to our town by public bus tonight. When I start my new job the plan is they will bus to my office and then I';ll drive them home. It's a big step for them tbh, but very very long overdue. I'm meeting them at the stop and we will get McDonalds for tea.

Hope everyone is having a good afternoon / morning!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 09/09/2024 22:25

Not you, too, SoE?! 😔🤒
Havoc's pre-school re-opens next week and I have anxiety about the start of covid season again... had it in June and keep bumping into people telling me they just got over it again.
Have had headache past few days due to lack of sleep, I think. Need to attend to car today as coolant warning light came on the other day. Haven't driven since, so plan to just pop down to auto supply after checking the reservoir shortly. Don't think I mentioned it, but one task I did all by myself a week ago was to change the car's rear turn signal/tail light bulb. I was SO proud of myself! Cost was $5.88 for a pack with two bulbs. Spare is in the trunk. 😁😁😁 Little things like that really increase feeling empowered and I think it was good modelling for Havoc.

OP posts:
Mumtobabyhavoc · 10/09/2024 02:47

Have now filled coolant reservoir and windshield wiper fluid. Checked oil. Googled auto parts supply for wipers. 🤓
Got dinner on.

Aria999 · 10/09/2024 03:16

Congrats on your kickass amateur car mechanic performance @Mumtobabyhavoc 😁

WinterLobelia · 10/09/2024 06:37

Absolutely kickarse!

I tend to procrastinate and sit around and not get to things. I need to be more kickarse also!

I shall try and be a bit more motivated today. Although I have been doing a good job on weeding out my clothes that don't fit. Problem is I do not as yet have much to replace them with!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 10/09/2024 07:07

Thanks, Winter, I need to go through clothes, too. 😔
Thanks, Aria. 😘

While making dinner, literally waiting for a pan of water to boil, I wiped out and organized fridge, I love it when I set little time limits for myself and blitz through a task. Fridge was easy though since I purged it earlier and there wasn't a lot to move around. (I was actually a little annoyed at the fridge being messy and food needing to be tossed/food waste.)

Havoc's birthday is coming up, so need to place cake order as have nixed idea to bake one - too many appts etc booked and would feel a chore and cause unnecessary stress.

Next car task is to figure out headlight bulb replacement. I think it's much trickier to access, but if I can do it I'll be super stoked! Plan is to learn how before it becomes necessary. 🤓

Mumtobabyhavoc · 10/09/2024 19:03

The day is on. Asleep around 2:30am, up with baby at 6:30. Two loads laundry done and hung up. Refereed toy sharing. 😩 Squeezed in a latte and pb&j bagel then cleaned phone after dropping it on bagel. 🤦‍♀️
The most time consuming task was reviewing pics from the past year to select for Havoc's birthday photo wall. Will make little collages of 4 pics p/month on coloured paper for background. Have uploaded and ordered.
To do: Costco shop, haircut for Havoc, order cake. Heading out shortly. Whew. 😅

It's been a G&T kind of evening here. DH is lying on the dog bed in the middle of the living room, the dog is on the sofa. Situation normal then!
Today I've cleaned up the kitchen, done a white wash and actually used my standing desk for the first time in ages. We think our tv and freeview box are dying so this evening I've been trying to troubleshoot that, no luck so far.
Work's busy this week so I'm trying hard not to get distracted wfh, lunches are all prepped for tomorrow so this is good.
Hope all those with germs are fighting them. Well done @Mumtobabyhavoc on the car maintenance, I used to do some of that but dh is so exacting with cars that I gave up and let him get on with it!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 11/09/2024 00:01

Thanks, Katie, 😊 A g&t kind night...hmmm Good & Tired? 😉

So! I completed my list today!!! 🥳
Havoc's haircut. ✅
Cake ordered. ✅
Picked up photos. ✅
Costco shop. ✅

Just finished a late lunch and I am ... good and tired? 😁🤔

SpiritOfEdna · 11/09/2024 13:33

mumtobabyhavoc - envious of the car maintenance (and a bit in awe!)

Today

  • my desk still isn't tidy, I'll tidy 10 things off it and then see where am at
  • all the filing was done last week, but I've found another small stash of paperwork from when I was last tidying and shoved it in a cupboard....
  • I need to cancel my RefPilates session, I'll never make it in time; hoping they might bump me up to the next one
  • I have a big presentation this afternoon, had a dry run session yesterday that got a bit hijacked so more prep is needed today
  • just had to throw out a batch of soup I made on Sunday - I didn't follow through with freezing it in batches so it has started to smell a bit funky
  • am getting to the time when car needs MOT and Service so will get that booked in and not leave it till a last minute panic...
That's all for today, have a good one, SoE
SingleThreadJoiner · 11/09/2024 14:04

Another one here super impressed with @Mumtobabyhavoc 's car prowess! I wouldn't have the faintest idea where to start!!!

Sorry about the wasted soup @SpiritOfEdna , so frustrating when that happens!

Not much excitement here - H has taken the car to get cleaned and washed, which is very nice. Got a head start on the pre-cleaner tidy last night instead of doing it all in a rush tonight. Donated outgrown toddler jigsaw. Tidied pile of torn-out recipes that was cluttering a kitchen shelf and threw out a few which I am clearly never going to do. Need to finalise the online shop tonight as well.

Tomorrow I am meeting two colleagues in London for an in-person/off-site work day, and on Friday morning my H is going to his parents' for a long weekend to help them with a few medical and practical issues, so it's all go around here!

Peridot1 · 11/09/2024 14:19

Hi all.

Hope everyone with lurgies is better. I’m feeling a bit more energetic today. Less sneezing which is good.

Impressed with your car maintenance @Mumtobabyhavoc. My sister tends to be all “I can do that” and just do it. I can’t be bothered. Definitely a man job in this house. I’m sure if I had to I would. But that hasn’t happened yet!

How annoying about your soup @SpiritOfEdna. That’s the kind of thing I do.

Our cleaners normally come on Wednesday but I switched them to Tuesday this week as DS had an online interview today. My week feels a bit confused now. And we have dropped the cleaners to every second week too which isn’t helping.

Today I have changed my bed and washed the bedding. My towels are in the machine now too. I also did a spider hunt in my bedroom and bathroom with my trusty spider vacuum. I seem to get lots of the really skinny pale spiders in my room. They are now all relocated to the bottom of the garden. Probably rounding up some mates to come back and have a party! Did cobweb removing too around all the upstairs bedroom windows.

I also washed a few vases and jugs from the kitchen windowsills. Will do a few more tomorrow.

I also ordered some sockets to be fitted to the new units and I’ll pick them up tomorrow morning for electricians to fit in the afternoon.

Other job this afternoon is to give the new units in the dining area a good clean and get DH to help bring some boxes downstairs and I can start putting stuff away.

Have a good day all.

RunningKatie · 11/09/2024 14:30

I need a spider vacuum in my life! I read lots of reviews on Amazon and got overwhelmed but it's still on my list.
Other jobs on my list: pay for school trip, agree on fireplace quote, switch electricity tariff.
Now adding - preorder coffee advent calendar as I've had an email and it's £5 off the PACT one so I'm treating myself. I might be nearly 5-0 but I'm having an advent calendar! 😊

WinterLobelia · 11/09/2024 14:32

Hi all- hope everyone is well. I think I am starting a cold also!

It's definitely spider season. I had to remove a spider and web from inside the car today as well as a couple in the bath. The little ones I'm fine with- but some are really big!

I've got another charity bag to dump today. And then finish the pre-cleaner clean!

Peridot1 · 11/09/2024 14:58

@RunningKatie - the spider vacuums are definitely useful!

As are advent calendars! I have the Liberty one. I joined their Beauty Drop club almost two years ago to save for it as it’s expensive. I was torn this year but had always wanted it. So went for it. Will get DH a whiskey one as usual for his November birthday.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 11/09/2024 15:15

Wait...whaaat? A spider vacuum??? 🤯

OP posts:
Aria999 · 11/09/2024 21:22

lol it's always spider season here! Mostly in the cellar luckily.

I don't mind them, they must be eating bugs so if we didn't have spiders I assume we would have more flies!

The crickets are the really annoying thing. They start to infest the cellar at this time of year. I have to hunt them down from the loud chirruping sound. To begin with I felt bad about killing them but by now they are definitely The Enemy.

Today.

Did some work (slightly stressful situation with client where they are somehow repeatedly breaking a simple input sheet and they assure me they are not doing any of the things I suggest which might be causing it to break).

Emptied one of the many boxes of misc objects from the cellar.

Turned the dishwasher round

Escorted the electrical inspector around. Hopefully that's the last time and it will now pass!

Yesterday also made some progress with turning our porch room into a nice place to sit.

We have just got 2 chairs and a rug and I have borrowed one of the outdoor coffee tables for now. It's much lighter and brighter than the rest of the house!

Still needs 2 more chairs, a nice coffee table, some pictures and some plants.

WinterLobelia · 11/09/2024 21:25

I love the idea of a porch room @Aria999 . 💖

Aria999 · 11/09/2024 21:29

It's a quirky feature of the house. The main door opens into the side of the short end of an L shaped room then there's another door into the house immediately opposite.

So the short part of the L is the entryway and long part of the L is available for... something...

We have been trying to figure out what to do with it. For years it was a repository of vacuum cleaners but then I got a cupboard made for those under the stairs.
