Oasis tickets

So I didn't make the ballot so missed out on the pre sale and I'm angered that viagogo have purchased a load of pre sale tickets and are selling them for 600 quid each! It's a dream to see oasis in Manchester (my home town) and its looking very unlikely unless some miracle happens in the queue for general sale tomorrow... just ranting but please keep your fingers crossed for me

We encountered surge pricing when at DisneyWorld earlier this year. Their Genie+ service (which allowed you to prebook time slots on the most popular rides) can vary between $15 and $40 per day, per person depending on demand. When you consider how expensive Disney is already it’s a total rip-off. We refused to buy it and instead “rope dropped” the most popular rides (if staying in a Disney hotel you can get into the parks 30 mins before guests staying in non-Disney hotels and have a bit of a mad dash to get to the front of the queue for your chosen rides!) which meant when the park opened to main guests we’d already done the “big” rides and could go on the less popular rides with shorter queues.

We encountered this too earlier this year, but you could see the prices for each day advertised in advance; there was no queuing and clicking though to find it had suddenly gone up in price from the advertised price for that day. We stayed at a Disney hotel and rope dropped every day which was great but we did buy Genie+ on two days towards the end of our stay when it started to get very busy and queues were long even for the less popular rides.

True that you could see prices in advance but still begrudged paying it on top of the already eye-watering cost of the holiday! In the end we rode everything we wanted to and became Virtual Queue Ninjas! If the Oasis tickets had been allocated on a similar basis to the VQ then I’d definitely have got them!

I agree that it’s ridiculous - though based on what I’d read we thought we’d need it more and were pleasantly surprised by how quiet it was for our first week so were happy to pay it for just a couple of days at the end. Ha - same here - I thought we’d have no problem with oasis tickets based on our VQ and restaurant booking skills (we managed to ride GOTG 6 times and managed to get all the sought after restaurants like CRT and Space220!)! But unfortunately Oasis tickets weren’t a case of clicking on the dot within a split second!

Mumofyellows · 01/09/2024 15:14

I finally got 4 standing Manchester tickets on Gigs and Tours after 4 hours of technical difficulties! Very happy as we paid £149 per ticket and standing with Ticketmaster shot up to crazy money!

Mumofyellows · 01/09/2024 15:20

NoMoreFalafelForYou · 31/08/2024 14:37

Get off ticketmaster it messed us around for 4 hours, in the end we got tickets to Cardiff 🥳🥳 through gigs and tours ! Took all of 4 mins

How????? I’ve been refreshing that site since 8am!

Edited

Same for us Gigs and Tours wouldn't load all morning then at 12.30 it suddenly came back online and 5 mins later we had 4 tickets sorted. Buzzing!

Squeezetheday · 01/09/2024 15:20

I think what’s annoying me more about not getting tickets are the reports of people getting theirs and immediately trying to resell them. Frustrating when you genuinely like the music!

MorrisZapp · 01/09/2024 15:23

I'm hoping the power of mumsnet can save some souls as far as accommodation goes. I live in Edinburgh, I don't have a spare room but my mum has two and is skint 😊 I'm sure that reasonable people can sort this out to everyone's benefit and avoid being ripped off.

I actually mentioned this to my mum and she said she didn't want Oasis fans peeing in her garden etc but I pointed to myself and said behold! An Oasis fan! Don't worry mother, we're all old gits now.

the80sweregreat · 01/09/2024 16:06

Of course people are going to sell them on! It's terrible , but anything to make a quick buck and people are on it
It's not good. Feel sorry for the genuine fans who might be ripped off

Pedallleur · 01/09/2024 16:09

Twickets will be awash with tickets nearer the time as people realise no one wants to buy their chances tickets at inflated prices

Pedallleur · 01/09/2024 16:15

RedToothBrush · 01/09/2024 12:16

The tickets are ridiculously priced to cover the cost of insurance in case they fall out!

I suspect they will stick together due to the big payout and there is probably a clause that says the insurance is invalid if they argue/cancel. Insurance companies look at past history to see if the risk is worth it. The Rolling Stones aren't covered if Keith Richards head injury from 20yrs ago causes cancellations.

Yes agree, I think guns n roses had something similar when they started touring again in 2017 due to their previous fallings out

Yes... we pee ourselves before we get to the garden now 😩

But the "face value" price on Twickets will be the inflated surge pricing, it's unlikely the people who got the £75/150 tickets will be the ones selling unfortunately

Pedallleur · 01/09/2024 21:33

No. It has to be the face value or less. For those asking about this debacle there is a podcast called Your Favourite band sucks. There is a 90 minute Ticketmaster podcast from 2023 and it goes into how it all works. Remember that Live Nation own Ticketmaster. You may be quite shocked about it. Suffice to say your favourite artists may well be complicit in it all.

The point is the tickets on Ticketmaster priced at the surge price ARE face value so I can’t see how anyone can be asked to sell them for half the price they paid for them. Otherwise, if fans discover they can’t use their tickets of course they’re going to put them on something like viagogo - , I’m certainly tempted to do so because I don’t see why Ticketmaster should be taking even more money from me

Aquarius1234 · 02/09/2024 13:50

Oasis should have made sure prices were only face only!!!!!

NoMoreFalafelForYou · 02/09/2024 14:26

I read resale tickets will go onto Twickets today, face value only. Do we think this will happen? and will it be another bloodbath?

Oasis specifically sanctioned Ticketmaster's use of dynamic pricing. They could have said no - most artists do. I already knew this was being done for money, not love but this last bit has completely put me off going to see them.

I read this too. I think it’s going to mostly be the expensive being sold from people having buyers remorse or those who were trying to make a quick buck but realised it won’t be so simple. Saw an article the other day of people saying they regret spending too much now as they could afford them!

Face value will include the inflated ‘dynamic pricing’ prices as they were sold by ticketmaster, an official retailer, so are face value.

And yes @Aquarius1234 on a BBC news article a couple of days ago ticketmaster said that the band/ promoter had chosen to go with ‘dynamic pricing’ rather than fixed ticket prices - it said they had the option and made that choice.

Pedallleur · 02/09/2024 15:16

they make the choice because they get more money (obviously). But whats worse is the fees go up as well and the act may get a cut of the fee depending whats negotiated. Note that its only this level of act that have these negotiating powers. think Springsteen/Swift/Oasis.
