I'm sure it's a method of applying pressure and a good time to garner every scrap of information they can get whilst he's under their roof. Once charged he'll be on remand and then will appear in court.

I see. That makes sense. I think they still have just under 24 hrs before they have to charge or release.

Notonthestairs · 31/07/2024 12:17

"If mosques are being attacked because of ongoing speculation that there is a link to Islam then I'd think it was wise to put that speculation to bed at the first opportunity. Assuming they are able to do that, obviously."

Or maybe men should just stop spreading violence and let the police get on with their jobs. There is nothing to be gained by threatening others, they should exercise some self control.

The only people owed information are the families.

TwigletsAndRadishes · 31/07/2024 12:17

And I don't see how saying 'so far we have no evidence to suggest that this attack was motivated by Islam or that the alleged attacker is muslim' is any more prejudicial to a trial than 'we are not currently treating this as a terror related incident.'

Both things might be subject to change, upon completion of a full investigation.

Or...people can stop being dicks and just not attack mosques

DrRorysXmasCartoon · 31/07/2024 12:22

The police may not yet know if he was religiously radicalised, radicalised by Incels or radicalised at all. Or whether it's because of his upbringing, trauma, neurodiversity etc. I'm glad the police are taking their time to do a through investigation.

I am angry at EDL for further stressing police resources in the local area.

No this one seems authentic, they have traced the family. Given that there was police activity and searches at his home address, MSM journalists have spoken to neighbours so I daresay these 'citizen journalists' have also knowledge of the address and have done a bit of digging themselves.

Is it just me that thinks it's odd he hasn't been charged yet?

No, it's not odd at all.

You clearly have no idea what's involved in a major investigation.

Userjfxkgxkgxkgxkgx · 31/07/2024 14:43

His address was publicised so keeping his identity secret is impossible

LlamaNoDrama · 31/07/2024 15:46

Well no i don't @LittleBowSheep as it's not an area I'm familiar with. Do you know everything about everything? I am aware they have a limited amount of time to charge or release.

I didn't claim to know everything about everything. But I am very familiar with major incidents and murder enquiries. Sadly.

Any updates on the others in hospital?

Igotjelly · 31/07/2024 18:08

Well the pictures coming out of Southport today of the community coming together to clear up the mess etc left by the right wing idiots are far more heartening.

It is, I have got the news on and the residents of Southport who have surely already endured enough are pulling together to clear up the mess. They looted shops ffs! and as for the mosque, well words fail me. It was heartening to see a local man going in and just doing repairs while saying it had been part of the community for many years. I like to hope and believe that there is more goodness and kindness in the world than hatred and mindless violence.

On my colleagues st. He said it seemed to be the car park for the EDL

VickyPollard25 · 31/07/2024 19:57

It is devastating. I can’t even Imagine what those families are going through. I don’t know if I could cope in that situation. It’s so unfair.

Will you just fucking stop?

Three children have died, not much more than 24 hours ago and without any evidence at all you are speculating and concentrating more on the perpetrator than those poor children and their families.

I’ve reported your posts and hope they disappear soon.

What was @Emmacc24 saying - all those posts have been deleted?

I won’t repeat any of it, but it was vile comments directed at a certain religion.

threonate · 31/07/2024 21:05

Seen that the police have been granted an extension on the suspects custody and no one has yet been charged for the stabbings.

Why would that be? Wasn't he caught at the scene essentially red handed?

I’m not sure

FreshGas · 31/07/2024 21:09

It takes time to gather the evidence. There is a large amount of physical evidence, eyewitness accounts and more.

threonate · 31/07/2024 21:10

With the (completely correct) information vacuum people are making it up themselves on line.
Unrest in Hartlepool and Downing Street. Seems never ending at the moment

On the face of it, one would assume they have all the evidence they need to charge straight away.

Clearly it's not as cut and dried as that.
