The police need to talk to the community leaders so they can try and calm the situation instead of going in there full pelt. It will only aggravate an already volatile situation.

Which community leaders? The people causing the trouble are the English Defence League, it would seem, and not locals either.

FreshGas · 30/07/2024 21:47

Communities rioting to protest fatal or serious police brutality against one of their own is justified. What have the police done on this occasion to deserve this, other than respond to the most horrific incident imaginable?

yourhairiswinterfire · 30/07/2024 21:48

All the posters who have posted thinly veiled (and not so thinly veiled) Islamophobia on this thread and the two threads that were deleted have helped fan these flames. Hope you are all proud of yourselves.

Oh they will be, I suspect this is exactly what they were hoping for.

What the hell do these knuckle-dragging rioters think they're going to achieve? The answer to senseless male violence is not even more senseless male violence. I fucking despair.

@DontBiteTheCat

Google 'balaclava' and 'vigil' and it's on about 5 different news websites

EDL, why does it not surprise me. Idiots. They don’t give a fuck about the children or their families, all they care about is hate.

Exactly like the suspect. Cut from the same cloth.

2 words, toxic masculinity.

Rioting is never justified.

Rioting is never justified.

We must agree to differ. Hopefully without overt hostility and violence.

Community leaders of who? the EDL?

The police who are there, having their noses broken and bricks thrown at them, have already said these are people who travelled into Southport to cause trouble. These yobs are there with the intention of attacking police and property to bring disorder and rioting.

They do not have local community leaders because they are not local. It's a really bad situation and the police statement spells that out.

Notaflippinclue give over. The police released an earlier statement (available on their official site Merseyside.police.uk/News) explaining they arrested someone with a flick knife, his ethnicity was not mentioned.

I’ll be googling fuck all, you’re part of the problem here.

spikeandbuffy · 30/07/2024 22:07

@DontBiteTheCat it's on sky news now man arrested with a flick knife

PleaseGoDontGoAgain · 30/07/2024 22:09

To those saying this is justified, the hope of the EDL is that this will turn into race riots in other towns, during a bastard heat wave as well.

It's got fuck all to do with the Southport incident this thread is about. It's got everything to do with yobbery, if that's a real word.

EsmaCannonball · 30/07/2024 22:10

So now the people of Southport have to put up with the fear of rioters and arson as well as having little girls murdered. Do they not know someone of Rwandan heritage is very unlikely to be a Muslim?

Edingril · 30/07/2024 22:10

So 'something violent has happened and to help we will commit violence' they don't have 2 brain cells between

Intelligence is not their any point

They don't care
It's very much "he's not British even if he was born here because he's not got a British name and he's not white"
Not white = he must go to a mosque to them

It's just an excuse for them to be violent. Men, again

They don’t care, he’s not white so that’s enough for them.

Yes I know, has his ethnicity been confirmed?

How convenient that the EDL just happened to be in the area at the same time. They were fucking coming anyway, but now they’ve got their excuse.

Twistybranch · 30/07/2024 22:14

Its in many news outlets now that a man in a balaclava and a flick knife was in the town centre yards from where the vigil was being held. This was just before 7. He has been arrested.

Riots broke out afterwards

spikeandbuffy · 30/07/2024 22:07

So... not a protest against knife crime, as some of the apologists for rioting seemed to be pretending.

spikeandbuffy · 30/07/2024 22:16

@DontBiteTheCat not that I've seen but TBH I haven't looked
I don't believe that was what kicked it off, it was all over twitter earlier way before that about planned protests

Userjfxkgxkgxkgxkgx · 30/07/2024 22:25

They targeted the mosque on Sussex road, shouting ‘who the f**k is Allah’ It was obviously planned

Rubbish. There’s no justification for rioting. Spouting nonsense such as this is part of the problem.

Fizbosshoes · 30/07/2024 22:41

EDL idiots piggybacking on a towns grief to incite racial and religious tension is disgusting.
How is that helping anyone?

Belle82 · 30/07/2024 22:44

I have a little girl aged 6, and I cannot stop thinking about how terrified those girls were and how much pain those parents must be going through.
It’s breaking my heart for everyone involved.

Why is there so much evil in this world, and to target that evil onto children is just unthinkable.

The people rioting make me sick, attacking the same police force who ran towards this maniac are now being attacked by yobs.

bluewanda · 30/07/2024 22:54

I’m in total shock at what’s happened. I can’t find the words to express how broken and utterly devastated I feel for those little girls and their families.

I feel pure anger, rage and hatred towards the killer and hope he gets everything that’s coming to him.

bluewanda · 30/07/2024 23:18

Like some of the people mentioned in this article, I also want to know what the government are going to do about it. It truly feels like society is broken tonight.
