My rather splendid female spider has today eaten her mate.

I am a little sad, they have been sharing a web for the last couple of weeks, I was beginning to think they had a Understanding . But alas, today Mr spider is no more.

For reference they are not pets, rather squatters that inhabit my ceiling.

He probably didn’t do his share of the web, and instead of LTB, she ATB.

Best mumsnet comment of 2024 😂

millymoo1202 · 19/07/2024 08:25

This has properly made me howl this morning 🤣🤣

SnugglyJumpersMakeItBetter · 19/07/2024 08:25

This thread is brilliant!! 😂

(Except for the threat to hoover up the babies - Don't do that! Love mum, love her babies! Mumsnet can help you out with the baby names! I think they should all have a nice alliterative 'S' name. I'm going to suggest 'Seraphina' for one!)

We had ants on our window ledge last night, this morning about 15 are neatly trapped in a web that I hadn’t noticed before.
Mrs spider has finished her inspection and is making another web further up.
I’m not sure if she likes to eat ants or not.

Sadly, if any sign of baby spiders Henry will be enlisted. I'm progressive, but There Are Limits.

That's the spirit. A couple of years in the Army. Never did me any harm Grin

MrsMoastyToasty · 19/07/2024 08:29

Baby spider: "Mummy, why don't I have a daddy like my caterpillar friends?".
Mummy spider: "Well, it's like this...Mummy and Daddy were having special cuddles to make you and your brothers and sisters...and afterwards I was a bit peckish...".

Mumoftwo1316 · 19/07/2024 08:29

You can't have your husband and eat him.

Which actually makes more sense than the cake version - what's the point of having a cake except eating it? Whereas husbands can be useful or at least ornamental

That’s it - from now on it’s Eat The Bastard 😂

SiobhanSharpe · 19/07/2024 08:34

I used to have a cleaner who hoovered up the spiders but then felt bad about it so would look for some flies to hoover up too, so the spider(s) wouldn't go hungry.

So much easier than burying them under the patio.

That's exactly what I was thinking. It's the spider equivalent of realising he's a cocklodger and burying him under the patio.

gamerchick · 19/07/2024 08:35

Its more likely that one spider was stuck in another spiders web and was left to marinate for a bit

Hatching of the eggs is mint to watch though. They're very cute

Shan5474 · 18/07/2024 23:49

Ooh did she eat him whole?? I walked in on a lady the other day who’d spun a guy up and was holding him like a burger with her weird little teeth in him. I assumed they just sucked out the insides but I didn’t stick around to watch

This was a spider, right?

Collexifon · 19/07/2024 08:38

I have a spider nursery in the corner of my living room. Can't bear to hoover it up.

Loving this thread!

Cruel.

Scoop them up and chuck them out of the window.

They will then have to find a new home or get eaten by birds in the process of doing so.
