She has eaten him.

My rather splendid female spider has today eaten her mate.

I am a little sad, they have been sharing a web for the last couple of weeks, I was beginning to think they had a Understanding . But alas, today Mr spider is no more.

For reference they are not pets, rather squatters that inhabit my ceiling.

You'll have loads of baby spiders to replace him soon!

AgathaMystery · 18/07/2024 23:12

So sorry for your (her) loss.

Ozanj · 18/07/2024 23:12

You might have a 100 baby spiders to look forward to soon lol

shellyleppard · 18/07/2024 23:12

If not snack, why snack shaped 🕷

ProvincialLady2024 · 18/07/2024 23:14

If only we could all eat our husbands when they got on our nerves.

This did make me laugh.

Sadly, if any sign of baby spiders Henry will be enlisted. I'm progressive, but There Are Limits.

🤣

This is my favourite thread for a while. Thanks OP (and spiders). RIP.

shellyleppard · 18/07/2024 23:20

@TheLastTrainForTheCoast they are teeny tiny little things....
Literally a millimeter. We had a nest outside on the parasol and it was actually fascinating to watch them launch....

OpizpuHeuvHiyo · 18/07/2024 23:20

I really couldn't manage mine in one sitting. Must be at least 10 days worth there. Longer if I want some variety and vegetables in my diet. How long did it take Mrs Spider to consume Mr Spider?

Marblessolveeverything · 18/07/2024 23:21

He probably didn’t do his share of the web, and instead of LTB, she ATB.

There would barely be any men left 😬

BadLad · 18/07/2024 23:25

Are you sure he hasn’t just gone to live with the OS?

Marblessolveeverything · 18/07/2024 23:27

Oooh, the OS. Typical.

Yes sadly there’s always a younger spider with hairier, skinnier legs ready to take your husband.

Mr and Mrs Spider were together late morning when I said goodbye to them (I know, I need a dog, but work patterns and all that)

By the time I can home 13 hours later there was just a leg. By the time I cooked dinner, leg was gone.

I'm impressed yours would last 10 days. Not only would mine be bitter, they would also be full of gristle.

One of my cats occasionally thinks this about spiders...then she catches one, chews it, spits it out and pulls a face as she remembers why she doesn't usually try to eat spiders. Apparently they taste rank...mind you, she licks her bum and eats cat food so may not be a good judge of taste 🤣

daisydalrymple · 18/07/2024 23:31

@Marblessolveeverything ATB 🤣🤣🤣 love it 😍🤣

TheLastTrainForTheCoast · 18/07/2024 23:31

@shellyleppard

We had a nest outside I'd see this bit a quite an important factor. Mine are living in my coving.

So do I.

I feel less sorry for Mr Spider now (and also now think that actual men get a good deal with LTB)

In fairness only saw his detached leg, hanging in the web. Guess he could have dragged his seven others to a new crib

If it's cellar spiders (the ones with long, clear looking legs) then they're great for pest control! If you have them, you'll never see another as they eat them, giant house spiders included! I've got bad eyesight so I can live with the blondey leggy ones on the ceilings... It's the big black ones I have to evacuate outside! As for the babies, if it is cellars, there'll be loads one moment and all gone the next! 🕸️

Yes he could have buggered off to get his leg(s) over...
