I've just seen Biden introduce president Zelensky as President Putin....its just beyond sad now, surely this has to be a big sway to stepping down?

The fact that she's a woman is considered one of her advantages! Michelle Obama for example tops lots of 'who do you want to run for president' polls, so there isn't an evident aversion to women.

In early interviews and press conferences after becoming vice, Kamala Harris performed poorly. There are also widespread and persistent stories about her staff turnover (said to be due to the toxic working environment in her office).

And to continue on this topic, I think it's also a problem that she's been substantially invisible for the whole of the Biden presidency. You could argue that that's because Biden has sidelined her or dumped the shitwork on her, but equally she hasn't taken any initiative to carve out a niche or a reputation for herself, and she's described as weak on policy. It's also said that she's not that bright, though it's hard to believe that's really true, and tbf Trump sets the bar pretty low in that department anyway. I think Biden and Harris were a good ticket, in as much as they covered a breadth of demographic bases between them, but I don't see her having the charisma to carry it off alone unless she chooses a very popular running partner. Hard to see who that would be either. I thought she would step up early into Biden's presidency and whether the reasons she didn't were self-driven or Biden's team's fault, the result is that she doesn't have a visible track record at this point. I think the fact that Michelle Obama is so popular puts the lie to the fact that Harris is unelectable purely because she's a woman and a poc.

stayathomer · 12/07/2024 02:47

Just watched his latest press conference and yes he messed up another name, but delivered a number of brilliant answers on issues at the moment, policy and opinion on past dealings with Gaza etc. Compare that to trump. I’d tell people to ignore sound bites and the faux pas’ and watch him talk about experience he has that means he can help on the world stage and Aldi the American people (cnn were listing what he has achieved and saying he will be remembered) (by the way am Irish so have no ties!!)

ConsiderabloiRicherthanYow · 12/07/2024 02:48

Even when he had his faculties he spoke nonsense.

Calling Trump "the first racist president".

The ignorance is astounding.

Quotes:

"Blacks are inferior to whites in the endowments of body and mind"

  • thomas jefferson, 1785.

"The improvement of the blacks in body and mind, in the first instance of their mixture with the whites, has been observed by every one, and proves that their inferiority is not the effect merely of their condition of life"

  • thomas jefferson, 1785.

"I am not, nor ever have been in favor of making voters or jurors of negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people. I as much as any man am in favor of the superior position assigned to the white race"

  • abraham lincoln, 1858.

george washington wrote about "civilising" the "savage" (the subhuman term for the Natives), a dehumanizing term that appears in the white settler 'declaration'.

america is white settler entity. That's its DNA. It earned the respect of Hitler when he wrote in 1928 that it had "gunned down the millions of Redskins to a few hundred thousand, and now keep the modest remnant under observation in a cage"

Yet I've just read an article saying he was pin sharp when he had a private meeting with Keir Starmer. Something needs to be done, the thought he is responsible for the majority of the nuclear weapons in the Western world is extremely worrying.

Hedgeoffressian · 12/07/2024 04:19

What’s more concerning is that the Democrats think this is acceptable. They are literally going to hand the presidency to Trump on a plate if they don’t find someone who is fit to govern. It has made an absolute mockery of the United States.

punkyKat · 12/07/2024 04:24

I'd be interested to know what a mental capacity assessment would show.
This is a man who has rapidly declined both cognitively and physically- arguably he may have limited insight into his condition and ability to decide if indeed he is fit.

murasaki · 11/07/2024 23:43

Sadly we all know two reasons why Kamala Harris wouldn't get voted in.

Which is outrageous, but the Democrats know it too.

Do you mean because she isn’t white? What about Obama then? He was voted in as president and he’s not white.

It’s not sad it’s utterly terrifying!! He’s been out of his mind for years now and the White House has been covering it up. Currently the US has no competent President. It really asks the question who TF is running the country?!?

Nanaof1 · 12/07/2024 04:31

Christ0nABike · 11/07/2024 23:18

They’ve got a matter of weeks to come up with someone better. How, after months/years of worrying about Biden, have the Democrats not found a replacement for him. It just beggars belief, and it’ll be entirely their own fault if Trump wins

The two parties decided, for the second time, to see how low can we, as a country, go? We have Tweedledum and Tweedledumber as our choices.

At this point, I'd be a better choice than either of them. Except I would be bossy and have a few "time-out chair(s)" for members of Congress. 😎

Inyournewdress · 12/07/2024 04:36

On the one hand, this is the kind of gaffe that Biden at any stage in his life and career could have made. His gaffes go back decades. But I agree that there is more than that going on now.

I think possibly Dems believed that due to the electoral math and his particular appeal to some potential Trump supporters Biden was the one who could beat Trump. Things have gone too far though, there must be some frantic recalculation going on behind the scenes. I fear the long and the short of it is that Trump is on his way back to the Whitehouse.

“murasaki

Is it because she’s utterly incompetent, incapable of debating the issues and laughs like a hyena when she is cornered?

It’s nothing to do with the colour of her skin.

I remember when Colin Powell was Secretary of State from 2001 to 2005 under George W Bush’s Presidency and Condoleezza Rice was Secretary of State from 2005 to 2009 - both under George W Bush’s Presidency.

Both of them are black - this has nothing to do with race. Kamala Harris is untrustworthy. Think of it this way - she’s known about his cognitive issues - and very very clear signs of dementia for years and should have stepped up (which is her job) but she was and is part of the cover up. Someone’s running the country and it’s not Biden and it’s not Harris.

Hedgeoffressian · 12/07/2024 04:44

I agree Exactlab. Some people on here are obsessed with race and try to imply racism at every given opportunity. Sometimes it is because someone is simply unpopular.

Biglovemarg · 12/07/2024 04:46

I think he’ll have to step down now, he must have been primed to the hilt for this one and he couldn’t get it done properly . There was so much riding on this.

Poor America. Poor world. Another Trump presidency is feeling more like a forgone conclusion by the minute.

It's amazing people are only just becoming terrified of this and weren't 4 years ago.

I was afraid. I had a feeling Trump would come back, because the Republican party has become broken. I have to believe there are a lot of Republicans/former Republicans who would love to see a moderate run. We used to have decent candidates in each party. Now it seems we are dumpster diving. If this how things are going to be, we need a third party (as if Congress would let that happen). Too many extremists on both sides for my liking.

It's sad to be dreading an election and dread it is all I can do at this point.

👏👏👏👏

Tinkerbot · 12/07/2024 05:02

All the millions $ donated to funding the democrat bid for the white house has been donated to a Biden / Kamala Harris team - so they can’t replace them as there is no funding for anyone else.

Nanaof1 · 12/07/2024 05:08

Sleepydoor · 12/07/2024 00:00

I hope you're wrong. She could also motivate a bunch of apathetic voters, inspire young people to get out and vote, bring out more asian, black, woman voters, etc. She's a much more dynamic, exciting choice than Biden and all the Biden/Harris campaign funds should probably transfer to her rather than anyone else trying to run for the Democrats. I hate to see people try to stop her from even trying because of racism and misogyny.

It has zero to do with racism and everything to do with her piss poor performance as a VP.

I would never vote for her and it has nothing to do with anything except her intellect, lack of common sense and character.

The same reasons I wouldn't vote for Trump. But, if a left extremist were to run, I'd vote for Trump over them. They need to find a moderate. But then, so do the Republicans, and they've failed massively.

The fact we don't have a viable third party is one of the major reasons our country is going to hell in a handbasket.

CHEESEY13 · 12/07/2024 05:16

These multiplying gaffes are (frighteningly) giving Trump a free pass to the White House.

America, for all its might, can only produce two elderly candidates for the Top Job. One is losing his mental faculties very publicly and the other is an unhinged narcissist.

Is this really the best that The Land Of The Free can manage?

I can not get over the fact the most powerful country in the world, 360 Million citizens and Biden and Trump are the two potential leaders…. Fucking terrifying!! 🤯🤯

Mind-boggling, isn't it? I think we have many potential leaders of the country, but they lack the money, the backers and the name recognition.

That these two are the ones the parties are promoting, shows the corruption and interference of people who control a lot more than us peons will ever figure out.

I dream of what we need....

Jesus, this is bad. I thought he's looking very frail recently. The state of US politics....

This. Is this honestly the way this massive country is run. They have nukes FFS.

Where is the humanity that would get this poor man out of the public eye but more importantly, what does it say about this country? Is everyone asleep?

He is refusing to step down. His cognitive decline has been going on for years.

I think there is something a lot darker at play. It should never have been two geriatrics vying for the Presidency (Trump and Biden).

The problem is the collegiate voting system. Basically the President is being selected before the election is even won. The people who control the collegiate voting control who runs the country.

There needs to be a mechanism for this. A quorum that can decide in cases like this.

Having said that, Trump would have been put out of his (and our) misery long since if there had been a panel capable of deciding fitness to stand.
