Just reading some of the more sticking their heads in the sand loopy posts on the "official" GE threads, about how they don't believe the polls and that hell would freeze over before their True Blue constituency turned LibDem or Labour.

I wonder if they'll be posting on Friday morning? Wink

SerendipityJane · 03/07/2024 09:39

If you can't win an election when you have the majority of the media batting for you, then is their usefulness to the political process worth courting anymore ?

SerendipityJane · 03/07/2024 09:42

Covid vaccines aren't even a thing for most people

You ain't gonna appeal to Reform voters if you aren't full on vaccines-are-evil fruityloops.

In fact that's a well paid job for someone after the election. "The Reform Party Guide to Science"

Guys, can you stop being so funny?! I have a COVID cough and it's painful to laugh so much 😆😆😆

Happy election eve everybody!!!

It seems to me that 6 weeks on we are still non the wiser as to why Sunak suddenly decided to have a July election.
What does he know that we don't?

Kemi Badenoch may be unable to stand in a future Tory leadership contest because of delays in sending out postal votes Badenoch is standing in North West Essex, where 2,600 postal ballots were not sent out in time If Badenoch wins the seat by a small margin, Labour could be entitled to challenge result and demand a fresh contest She would be a candidate rather than an MP in the run-up to any by-election. There is also concern that opposition parties would pile national resources into seat in bid to remove her

I did find myself wondering last night if the Electoral Commission have ever ordered a by election as a result of a bungled general election ?

Seems a lot of expense when a vote is worthless.

Would Badenoch challenge if she loses? I bet my house she would.

MrTiddlesTheCat · 03/07/2024 10:26

DS says he identifies as a carrot but still has a higher IQ than a reform candidate.

Well, much as I dislike her, she might have a point.

However, my sympathy may be tinged by a memory that lots of EU citizens were denied their right to vote because of government fuck ups in 2019. And if she didn't stand up for them (she didn't) I've suddenly lost interest in her plight.

That sounds excellent. Her popularity being subject to an actual contest rather than her pompous sit and wait attitude is exactly what she needs. Saffron Walden is a very safe seat. If she can’t win there, she deserves not to have special pleading but some reflection on why she might have lost.

I'm guessing a lot of people will be staying up watching it tomorrow night but i'm working Friday and don't function on bad sleep so i'll be checking it when i wake up at 5am. Hopefully i don't wake my whole house up screaming.

TheInvisibleMann · 03/07/2024 10:55

Checking in on Election Eve.

Getting excited now but still have a slight fear that the polls may be wrong. Pretty sure Labour will win, but I really don't want Reform to get more than a couple of seats. None would be better, but I don't think that'll happen.

yeah i'm the same, i'm confident of a labour win just not on by how much.
And for me any reform seats are awful but 3 or less would be best. If anything having some of them have to turn up to parliament and show themselves for who they are may be helpful.

Mel Stride seemed confident this morning on the radio that Labour were going to win big, and was concerned there wouldn't be an effective opposition. Suggesting that the majority could be larger than the 491 in 1931.

Maybe they should have thought of that before being such a shit government ? Just an idea.

If - as I fervently hope - the Tories are pushed into 3rd place, it's a clear signal that the public doesn't even trust them to be a decent opposition. That's a hell of a message to have to swallow.

rockstarshoes · 03/07/2024 11:25

I'm actually growing quite fond of Mel Stride!

He's taking all the ribbing from Ed Balls & Suzanna Reid about being the only Conservative that turns up in really good humour!
(Not that I'd vote for him)

They invited him to join them on Friday morning for the 'Post Mortem'

user8800 · 03/07/2024 11:26

I'm really angry at Ed Davey.

He could have been serious, spoke more about carers etc and actually shoved the tories into 3rd place.

He's doing a fucking tractor pull this morning.

Twat.

The problem is the media wouldn't be interested in LibDem policies. It's the only way he can get them into the media.

But don't be cross. That's how the LibDems have quietly slipped under the radar.
