I’ve been so excited to watch them be annihilated for so long and now it’s so close I have this horrid doubt creeping in. I just keep thinking what if the polls are wrong. I actually think I would cry if the Cons or Reform did well.

NoDishiForRishi · 03/07/2024 07:39

Happy Election Eve everybody!

I'm getting nervous now, 10pm tomorrow cannot come soon enough.

The polling station is at the top of my road, so the plan is to take the long way to school tomorrow morning and take DD along with me while I vote (start them early 👍🏻) and then spend the rest of the day day worrying I blacked out and voted BNP by mistake, despite them not even standing.

I see the tories have smashed the in-case-of-emergency Boris button. I might have to crack out my Boris bog roll. 😂

Yeah.
I hear you.
I was listening to Marina Hyde and John Crace on the guardian podcast thing at 6 am...
It has been a crazy election campaign from the torys...announcing in the pouring rain outside a multi-million £ media suite, leaving the DDay 80th anniversary commemorations early, national service, poor little rishi didn't have sky, insider betting on GE date...what a fuckfest.
I'll be glad when it's Friday with the possibility of actual adults being in charge

Owlbookend · 03/07/2024 07:57

Happy election eve all. I too am getting super nervous here. Hospital appointment and blood tests for me on Friday so no staying up all night or drinking for me 😔I’m torn as to whether to watch the exit poll and stay up a bit or go to bed knowing nothing and wake up early to see what the dawn brings. There is a true blue seat near me that as far as I am aware has never been anything but Tory. Every poll in the aggregator site has it as labour. A year ago this would seem totally impossible & even now I find it hard to believe. I keep thinking about 92 (I know it was very different & the polls were much closer). My mum slammed off to bed upset at the exit poll while me and dad stayed up watching with the hope slipping away.

Cheguevarahamster · 03/07/2024 08:01

Just had the Boris video come on again on my twitter. He seriously looks unwell.

VoteOutToHelpOut · 03/07/2024 08:03

Happy Election Eve!

Mel Stride on LBC just now basically conceded defeat. Said people must vote Tory in order for there to be a viable opposition.

countrygirl99 · 03/07/2024 08:04

Major disaster in our house .... no signal to the TV, need to call Sky. Can watch on DHs laptop but not the same.

Can you get freeview?

@Owlbookend stay up for Sunderland (is that the one that always declares around midnight?) and then go to bed?

medianewbie · 03/07/2024 08:09

Happy Election Eve everyone!
Ds (& I) currently stuck in hospital. He's gutted as he follows politics closely. Am hoping we can get an 'emergency' proxy signed & submitted even now.

@TomPinch that's shocking.

Labour obviously are not going to be able to magic up prison places overnight - the process for planning a prison I imagine takes more than a few months!

So in the meantime they will either have to continue to release prisoners OR nobody is sent to prison.

For months.

It should be headline news.

It's fine. They can use the Bibby Stockholm. Maybe repurpose some asylum seekers units.

CassieSaysGoodbyeTories · 03/07/2024 08:12

Seriously the prisons is shocking and I just know the Tories are going to blame Labour.
Maybe we are going to have to go to the model where people serve sentences when there is space.

Just heard them say on the news that Rishi is going to be highlighting today that Labour will 'take a sledgehammer to most of what the Tories have achieved' - which is exactly what most of us want, I would have thought?! He might as well be wearing a red rosette when he's saying it.....

They’ll have to find those achievements first. I’d have thought they were too small to need a sledgehammer.

They could use one of those little things hammers you used to get with trays of toffee

Happy election eve one and all!

Here's to change 🥂

A pair of mini nutcrackers would also do the job.

Oh poor you and DS. Will you have to cancel your holiday, too?

VoteOutToHelpOut · 03/07/2024 08:22

Be careful on MN today. There are some rather unpleasant posters about.

Smile

Rishi Sunak has said all the Tory candidates can just bring in games from home today. He's asked for three volunteers to help him clean all the wipeboards in Downing Street and Jonathan Gullis, Ben Bradley and Steve Baker have said they will if they can do it together.

I found the YouTube link posted upthread, very illuminating wrt polling.

1992 was the last GE when it wasn't accurate.

Even the Brexshit referendum was showing a leave win in the days preceeding the vote.

The issue in this GE, imo will be the quiet ashamed tories, the tories who stay at home, and how many racist tories switch to reform.

It's a toss-up here, sadly, but as ds said, we've done what we can.

Not many hours left of campaigning, thank God 🙏

bombastix · 03/07/2024 08:33

Boris Johnson tells me this Labour government will be the most left wing since the war.

I can’t vote twice, can I?

What including Attlee’s? Told you he was pissed, he’d probably had some marching powder too.

Oh no! You will be able to, you can do it up until 5pm on election day, and even still there are ways after that!
