surely not, i'm told reliably on MN that this is the most important issue for everyone?!

This election is the first encounter that belief has had with reality for some time. It must be really disheartening to have a cherished belief proved so comprehensively wrong.

Are you sure you don't mean the only issue?

CassieMaddox · 28/06/2024 08:35

So i was sad yesterday wondering if the threads will end once we don't have Tories to entertain us with their lying law breaking ways.
What are we going to call outselves? Are we just going to go 53: Starmer (fingers crossed)?

I suspect the thread tax rate will be lower. Which is odd because I’m sure the Tories said that Starmer is putting ALL the taxes up.

I was thinking the same yesterday. I really don’t want to lose this community.

Welcome @Alwaystired94.

We might have to invent some corruption to keep it going.

Although there’s going to be a Tory leadership campaign and at least one investigation to look forward too.

CassieMaddox · 28/06/2024 08:48

Omg I really hope KB goes!

Surely we would go to 1: Starmer, and continue our discussions, and frankly hold the new government to account? The only reason we have been so partisan is the utter shitness of the Tories.

The Tory detonation and rebuild should also provide much fodder for discussions. What I live about these threads is that we come from a range of backgrounds and political positions and yet we can have intelligent and respectful discourse. I would hate to lose that.

Notonthestairs · 28/06/2024 08:57

The Brexit and Trump threads continued, just at a slower pace.

I will welcome less excitement BrewCake

Thank you for that, it’s very reassuring. Electoral Calculus is a real outlier for my constituency, it sees Reform polling 14% higher than the highest of the other polls. I feel a bit happier now.

DuncinToffee · 28/06/2024 09:08

I have seen quite a few post on twitter saying that Electoral Calculus seems wrong at the moment.

It's always obvious though, looking at what people are concerned about on that graph. It is what they have been told to worry about, by the party they most side with (possibly unconcious bias). We've been hidden from Brexit and the fact that it has cost the economy 68bn and we have lost 28bn in tax. If you started letting voters know that, Brexit would shoot up to No. 1.

The actual trouble we have as a country is that we have a choice between 2 parties not talking about the important things that they need to be.

Zonder · 28/06/2024 09:21

bombastix · 28/06/2024 08:18

oh god Zonder that is painful. I mean look at the quality of who is speaking. It’s like night and day with now.

Jenkins and Benn were in the same cabinet at the time; remarkable by today’s standards.

i cannot wait for the spivocracy being kicked out

That's what is so striking, isn't it? It's like there used to be grown ups and now the toddlers have taken over.

And the grown ups in the room are dismissed as weak. The derision about Starmer because he behaves like a civilised human being really illustrates how low standards have sunk.
