@IClaudine I actually posted on it, in the hope of persuading the waverers. DH has been out canvassing again for Labour for the last two days and we both think it’s concerning (and inexplicable) how many people are still saying they’re undecided

Do you think it’s the polite way of saying “I don’t want to vote Labour”? Or “I don’t want to talk politics on the doorstep”?

Evenstar · 27/06/2024 20:02

@Saucery not from what DH and the other canvassers are hearing, they definitely don’t want the Tories but seem unable to commit. One woman was talking about voting Green, but unless you want the Tory MP to get in again that’s pointless in this constituency. She worked at a school and was very aware of how bad things are with overstretched budgets and a lack of resources.

Anyone seen this thread? I have seen the OP on a few political threads and am quite 🤯 that she was contemplating voting Labour in the first place.

Familiar vibes, seen similar scrips before

Actually a crime question first on QT. Which is a good change.

verdantverdure · 27/06/2024 20:09

We're doing Lib Dem lifts on polling day and my husband has been out leafleting for Labour in a nearby constituency where they have a real chance of winning.

At my nieces and nephews VIth form hustings the Tory MP with a majority of over 24,000 didn't bother turning up.

Is he smug or just giving up?

For a bit of light relief I watched this. This is exactly where I am. The British public are great sometimes

Loved that. He’s missed the bit where the dodgy builder has given all my money to his mates though and got nothing in return.

dontcallmelen · 27/06/2024 20:12

According to electoral calculus my redrawn constituency has a 96% chance of becoming Labour after seventy years of most of the constituency being Tory not sure I totally believe those percentages.

Do electoral calculus, run the numbers from opinion polls to first give then a number of seats and then try and map that onto constituencies, rather than an MRP which tries to get a constituency by constituency result and then count up the number of MPs?

And bought the screws for the cabinets from his bar manager for half the quality at double the price and being thanked with a substantial cash bonus.

The young people on question time are brilliant so far.

And the cabinets and doors weren’t stored properly so he had to burn them.

Question...is it OK to not actively despise Andrew Mitchell? Asking for a friend.

Once upon a time he was minor league Tory. A rude, jumped-up patronising twunt, but essentially harmless Tory. That he has reached the elevated heights of “not actually despicable” shows how low they have sunk.

Evenstar · 27/06/2024 20:25

@Piggywaspushed I recently read Rory Stewart’s book Politics on the Edge, and he seemed to think well of him and felt he had been unfairly maligned (indeed he was cleared eventually over Plebgate) I think he speaks clearly and at least listens to his opponents.

Piggywaspushed · 27/06/2024 20:28

This QT is a breath of fresh air thus far. Well done Birmingham.

It’s nice to see a civilised discussion.

I read that too and did vaguely remember that.

Also watching QT. It really is quite refreshing.

Piggywaspushed · 27/06/2024 20:44

I think this is making me appreciate, despite many valid concerns about her, how good Fiona Bruce is at controlling relevance, steering conversation and challenging partisans robustly.

Possibly because there's a shortage of public schoolboys on the panel? We plebs like to teach our children how to behave in public and respect other people.

Given what we now know of the local Metropolitan Police station and their so-called banter, I am a bit more inclined to believe Andrew Mitchell, even though I object to the policies and party he is a part of.

placemats · 27/06/2024 20:59

Fiona Bruce is now interrupting everyone on the immigration question. Cooper and Moran several times, Mitchell once and Flynn once. Now it ends.
