Ah really? I've been a bit annoyed by all of then the last few days so I couldn't face watching it. Might watch that though

Best reply on this so far from Starmer.
He did very well tonight (despite Sunaks haranguing & hosts allowing of that). I trust him far more then any Tory.

Churchview · 26/06/2024 21:38

The £2,000 tax lie again.
He's a nasty piece of work with nothing to offer bar aggression.

He kept using the (never) 'surrender' phrase to catch the ear of the Reform UK/We stood alone crowd.

bombastix · 26/06/2024 21:39

I’m not sure that will have done anything really. It was quite intense, but sound and fury only?

NoDishiForRishi · 26/06/2024 21:40

Snap you gov poll says neither won the debate. An even split.

Sunak mentioned something on his closing speech he wasn't meant to - and the woman announcer just shut him down.

Anyone know what it was he said? I was too busy laughing at ds response to Sunak!

itsgettingweird · 26/06/2024 21:44

Sorry shut Starmer down when he tried to mention it

It was the £2000 tax thing I think.

We was repeating the 2k tax rubbish

Churchview · 26/06/2024 21:48

He told the lie about £2,000 tax again. Starmer said it was a lie and that Sunak had been told not to tell the lie again.

newnamethanks · 26/06/2024 21:50

Dont bother @IClaudine, Non-event, shouty Sunak - he is an utter yob underneath his expensively acquired veneer - and rather passive Starmer. Very annoying all round. Sunak knows what a woman is, someone to shout at and talk over. We would not get on.

let's return to this thread in a year and see how much tax we're all paying, eh? I guarantee it will be more with Kier in charge.

Jason118 · 26/06/2024 21:54

I guarantee it will be more with Kier in charge.

Let's hope so, things will start to work properly again.

Bigcoatlady · 26/06/2024 21:55

That was a very annoying watch apart from youngest DD's face which is very expressive. She's a first time voter and is going to have to resist the urge to spoil her ballot by writing obscenities next to the Tory candidates name now.

NoDishiForRishi · 26/06/2024 21:56

If it means things are working? I can see a doctor? A dentist? Services working as they should? I'm fine with paying a bit more tax for that.

bombastix · 26/06/2024 21:57

Bah. I am paying record tax and public services have never been so bad and the country has never been worse. The young woman who spoke about her friends leaving had it right. We need those people and we are pushing away their energy and dynamism in favour of stagnation and triple lock pensions. Insane.

itsgettingweird · 26/06/2024 21:57

I'm not surprised so many are undecided on the winner.

Starmer did answer the questions put to him very well and far better than previously.

Sunaks answers were not what he'd do but what Starmer wouldn't.

Undecided people then buy into questioning what Labour will do and totally overlook the fact they also have no idea what Sunak will do under the Tory's.

I think it's a clever trick

madroid · 26/06/2024 22:00

Sunak sounded like ChatGPT - repetitive and predictable 😁

Not sure about Starmer. He came across as calm and adult at least but I wouldn't say he's one of nature's orators by a long mile.

verdantverdure · 26/06/2024 22:01

Starmer looked I look when the mad woman over the way is complaining about something mad. Maintaining calm and good manners in the face of an obvious annoyance talking shite.

Me too.

Sunak just seems aggressive.

He seems whiny and petulant and strangely reminiscent of Ross Geller from Friends having a hissy fit

bombastix · 26/06/2024 22:05

He reminded me of Marvin the Martian. I’m very very angry about betting. I’m furious. Pull the other one; it has bells on it.

of course his actual personality is brittle and thin skinned; any criticism makes him truly angry. The difference is clear.

Why do so many posters who are anti-Starmer seem unable to spell his first name? It is very odd.

I would post why I think this is, but it is delete/ban territory!

@Spandauer He doesn't say any "human" words but he makes a noise that sounds like Sweep out of Sooty & Sweep. I think you can train them to repeat words with lots of patience. Which reminds me of this story, which I love. The thought of 100 swearing parrots is quite something.

Just scrolling through the new thread and thought "well this could be @MissMarplesNiece talking about any politician really" and then I caught on
