Its all very well calling for kinder politics, but did the politician in question call for kinder policies when the rest of her party were implementing those based entirely on hate?

tobee · 19/06/2024 17:29

No

Well quite.

And also political trolling is depressingly mundane these days. How the fuck would these snowflakes have coped in the days of Gillray.

"Be kind"
"Up yours !"

Zonder · 19/06/2024 17:10

Zonder means without in Dutch (I know someone here is Dutch but I've already forgotten who!) and it was relevant at the time I chose it but can't remember why now.

So my election night name could be ZonderRishi or ZonderManyTories

Both @DuncinToffee and I are Dutch and I love both of those.

Those maps in that linked article show a story very clearly

Possibly a shattering of the post civil war (yes that one) splits. Which is quite an achievement.

NEW: A police office in the PM's close protection team has been suspended and arrested over bets about the timing of the general election @ChrisMasonBBC

Don't worry folks. Nothing will happen.

I’ve always been anti Tory. I started with hating Thatcher with a passion and have never moved. It really saddens me that nobody younger than 32 can remember how much better life was as an adult before this lot took over.

Been awol over last few days - DD and DS both ill with flu like symptoms so DH and I both are trying to organise who can get cover at school (I can, but it’s unpaid and I have assessments this week - he can but has fixtures - gaaah!).

This has really resonated with me. I first voted in 1998 (last year of A-levels) and my young adulthood seemed so full of hope. Am I looking back with rose tinted glasses? I did work 30 hours a week in a bar but I didn’t feel it impacted my studies (all my social life!). It seemed guaranteed we could walk into a job and I had no debt when I left uni. I also bought a house immediately with a 100a% mortgage on a graduate bank account.

Heavenssakes · 19/06/2024 17:51

My GenZ DC just got home and read a letter from our Conservative MP.
" This is great" she said enthusiastically. (to my surprise)

"He says ' if I vote for a minority party, it will be a vote to strengthen a Socialist Labour Government. ' That's fantastic news. I would so much rather have a Socialist Labour Government than the Labour Government we're going to get. I'll vote for that."
Not quite the response he was wanting, I think.

(We're both voting LibDem, to get the Tory out)

Found this from Apple News and DT about that Savanta poll:-

Why do I feel like The Daily Telegraph, if not their readers, are going to be loving that poll? 🤔

SerendipityJane · 19/06/2024 18:01

Todays dilemma:

would you accept Reform having more than one seat if it meant Farage lost. Or would you prefer Farage as the lone voice of Reform in the Commons.

The article does seem remarkably level headed.

Maybe we will yet see "It was the Tele Welly that did it" ?

tobee · 19/06/2024 18:03

Probably the former

Hehehe

Saucery · 19/06/2024 18:13

Farage as the lone voice, for me.

tobee · 19/06/2024 18:18

I was thinking 2 MPs rather than one him?

I'm alarmed at the thought of Sunk not being an MP.

Much more fun for him to keep going to parliament and not so easy to bugger off to the US.

tobee · 19/06/2024 18:22

Although that would make him think a platform could be built? But then I think of the brief UKIP mp period? That didn't mean much. Carwell and Reckless. Plus Farage loosing would make him go away for a bit longer?

tobee · 19/06/2024 18:24

He should be legally obliged to stick it out for the full term @Thingscanonlygetsunk

I'm now of the opinion that winning his seat is now his biggest nightmare as he can't then easily and quickly bugger off to California

@DuncinToffee - time for a new thread? No suggestions for a title though Blush "Sunak - drowning not waving" is one suggestion but I'm sure there are better ones.
