Is Boris Johnson supporting your local candidate?

"Hands, face, space, vaccines, vaccines, vaccines"

On the 4th anniversary of Johnson, Sunak, the interior decorator, Cabinet colleagues, catering and a photographer being "ambushed" by a party.

I think it is likely to be they invade fully around mid July. By all accounts most of Europe has been preparing for this and have set up various conscription policies to prepare, which is what I think Rish! wants to get ahead of and why he plumped for it as an opener. When it happens and Labour haven't "prepared" he can do the whole "See, if I were in the youth would be fighting them on the beaches" nonsense.

Local water company now in the news for having a 3 month leak wasting water in a road near me. So that's where my money is going, literally down the drain.

What part of the war in Ukraine isn’t a full scale invasion Confused it’s a grinding war of attrition, Russia aren’t about to suddenly overrun the country and take Kyiv.

My heart is singing.

I want our youth to strip us old fuckers of our rights and privileges*. It would be just and it would be fair.

*Possibly hyperbole. But I wanted to note my awareness of what we have done to them.

And me. It’s so heartening that young people are engaging politically. Just think of how many of them there will be by the next election, especially if the voting age is lowered. I’d lay money they won’t be voting for right wing dinosaurs.

Nooooooo! I won’t be. Too much hassle. Plus I won’t know who anyone is if you all do that!

What if I went Cassiesaysgoodbyetotories?

When I remember my youth and the promises it held, I can't help but want to say sorry to anyone under 40 and admit "we failed you".

Maybe that is why this generation of old codgers is so resolutely anti tory ? We are trying to redeem ourselves.

Of course, the end result will be the same whether Ukraine collapse as opposition or they storm Kiev though; the rest of Europe are on the doorstep.
I suspect Rish! wants it to be on Labours watch to the point of throwing the election which is what I am cynical about.

And if Ukraine doesn’t collapse because we don’t abandon them? What then for Rishi’s grand plan?

I’ve always been anti Tory. I started with hating Thatcher with a passion and have never moved. It really saddens me that nobody younger than 32 can remember how much better life was as an adult before this lot took over.

Igotjelly · 19/06/2024 15:08

The chance of Russia defeating Ukraine entirely or ‘invading’ Europe (whatever that looks like) by July are slim to non-existent.

tobee · 19/06/2024 15:10

Hmm. I don't really want to take responsibility for what other fuckers have done to the young. Whether they are my age, older or younger. I'm not really into performative self flagellation. I didn't vote for any of it. I've always encouraged any young people I know to be politically engaged. And have actively campaigned for remain, labour etc.

That doesn't mean I don't think it's a shit world for young people in this country right now. I only need to look at my degree educated dc who are nearly 29 and just 25 and still living at home with all their university debt still who cannot envisage moving out in even the medium future. And I'm well aware (as hopefully are they) that they have a very privileged life compared to many of their contemporaries.

Igotjelly · 19/06/2024 15:07

He isn't supporting them. We aren't doing anything to help and he knows this. Its part of "make Labour look shit" while also "my plan was to ensure young troops" is still fresh enough. It's rubbish but I do think it is the next big global news event likely to hit around election time.

As you say, I may be wrong.

No, I don't think Russia will "invade Europe" by July.

I was reading earlier that the Finns estimate that 80% of the men and equipment that had hitherto been in Russia facing them has been deployed to Ukraine. It rather led me to think that Russia may not have that much left to do a whole lot more invading.

tobee · 19/06/2024 15:31

Isn't Putin currently visiting his good pal Kim?

Poor old Kim hasn't had much attention since 45 lost the presidency.

The chance of Russia defeating Ukraine entirely or ‘invading’ Europe (whatever that looks like) by July are slim to non-existent.

An ongoing theme of the less hysterical commentators has been to note how the US, and EU (and rest of Europe) have very quietly built support for Ukraine into the next 5 years of their budgets. It's now priced in (and therefore not a "shock").

It's a clear signal to Putin that his bluff has well and truly been called (remember he promised a forever war) and he now has what he claims he wanted.

Only like most bullying little shits this was all talk and the last thing he wanted. Or needed. Which is why he is today (possibly literally) cruising around North Korea.

Russia simply cannot afford a 5 year war. It will be interesting how long their (sole) S500 defence system lasts, given what the Ukrainians did to the S400.

On every count of it's goals, Putins war has already failed. Even if he hasn't realised (remember "Downfall"). Yes, it's true the Western response could have been a bit more timely and organised. However the fact it wasn't is because the west is not a military dictatorship. However that's passed now.

My memory of the past two years has been Putin or his puppets muttering dire threats about something or other that the UK - pleasingly - has ignored. And nothing bad has happened because nothing bad will.

Putin is like his lickspittle puppets Trump, Farage and Johnson. A nasty bully who really needs to be stood up to every step of the way. Surely we've all see The Wizard of Oz ? Fuck him and his apparatchiks.
