I see the 3 for Reform as rope to hang themselves with. No way are they going to be good constituency MPs. No way are they all going to get through a full Parliament without at least one doing something to trigger a recall petition.

dontcallmelen · 18/06/2024 20:09

That’s a good way of looking at it, I would be amazed if any of them do get elected would actually be a good MP as the calibre of the candidates appear to be very very questionable.

IClaudine · 18/06/2024 20:09

Thanks! Will name change just in case but keep this name for these threads x

I'm glad you almost outed yourself and had to delete the post, otherwise it would have meant you'd been deleted.Grin

I didn't see it.

I didn’t see it either.

fabio12 · 18/06/2024 20:40

Nor me.
Never a bad idea to twirl a new username though.

Would not be the first time I've been deleted tbf!

I doubt anyone would be interested in my real identity, but I had a bit of a panic!

prettybird · 18/06/2024 20:50

I didn't see it either.

Anyone who knows me irl would easily recognise me Grin But my surname is so distinctive and unusual (only one of me in the UK Shock) that I wouldn't want to be identified explicitly.

I'm always careful never to put in print anything I'm not prepared to stand by in real life though Halo

Agreeing with @Notonthestairs

I'm in a Facebook group for people who have to take a particular medication. The medication would be very expensive to buy privately. I noticed that one of the members of the group has changed his avatar (is that what we still call them) to a "Vote Reform" badge. I very much wanted to ask him how, if Farage has his way over the NHS, he will afford to buy the meds he needs and afford to pay for all the subsequent medical treatment that this condition often requires. Sadly the Facebook group admin has banned political posts so I can't ask him the question.

@MissMarplesNiece I was speaking to an elderly friend recently. They'd been bluelighted in for a strangulated hernia. Had been seen by a Greek Registrar, 'an Indian man' & then operated on by a Turkish surgeon. Said he sat & watched the busy A&E desk for an hour whilst waiting for his ambulance transportation home.
Said:' it was like the United Nations but they all seemed to understand each other (!) & work well together'
Left 'full of praise for our priceless NHS'. Is voting Reform. <bangshead>

I find new usernames too confusing. I've been my name for years. Only changed for a couple of tricky posts over time.

DuncinToffee · 18/06/2024 22:11

I have a name for election night Grin

I'll give it a try, back in a min

I didn’t see it either Iclaudine.

Love the election night name change Duncintoffee.

Sadly I’m going to have to be sober ish on election night as have to be at work for 7.30 on the 5th. But spending the weekend at Bylines festival where I’d imagine there will be a lot of celebrating.

prettybird · 18/06/2024 22:42

Love the election night name change @RishisLeavingDo Smile

I've not changed my name (beyond seasonal and obviously linked name changes) since (I think) 2004 yes I've been on here that long Blush I had a previous name for a couple of years which was actually my first name, initial of my second name and year of birth Shock

I've very occasionally changed name if I've been posting about something sensitive that could upset others (especially as I've not disguised myself).

IClaudine · 18/06/2024 23:01

Very glad my error went unnoticed! Although I wouldn't be bothered about any of the regulars on here knowing who I am in real life.

BTW, did you know 5th July is the birthdate of the NHS? Has to be a good omen, yes?

Boris Johnson is no longer expected to join Tory election campaign trail because party is facing decimation in the red wall seats he won in 2019 and there are fears he will not appeal to voters in the south

Johnson is instead expected to go on his second summer holiday within the next few days and is not due back in the UK until July 3

Sunak did not tell Johnson that he was planning a snap election and has not spoken to him for the duration of the campaign

Allies of Sunak are said to be concerned that Johnson could prove to be a distraction because of the ‘media circus’ that would surround him if he spent a day on the campaign trail

Tory strategist: ‘What’s the point of sending him to the red wall when the focus of the campaign is to defend 150 seats in the south?

‘This is not a campaign that is looking to win seats in the red wall. This is a fight for survival. If you look at the seats we’re targeting they don’t have Boris Johnson supporters’

In the past ten days the prime minister has spent his time in seats with an average Conservative majority of 15,000, up from 10,000 in the first two weeks of the campaign

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.
