He would have been about 9 when Sky started I think @MrTiddlesTheCat

FFS as a working adult I couldn't afford Sky.

This has made me feel really cross as it has shades of the rhetoric about people being poor yet having Sky and big TVs etc.

Nasty little man. Can't wait for him to fuck off.

Lalgarh · 12/06/2024 09:20

He's been so used to being the little Prince of his family I guess. He's not someone who has had to deal not just with genuine hardship (CF that clip of him from the 2000s) but with failing at stuff. That's why this D Day fallout seems to have floored him

REVEALED: the campaigners who dreamed up the contents of Liz Truss’s mini-budget have given the Conservative Party £35m

Bloody hell.

I hope that Labour will look into the Russian money trail at some point.

Does anyone know if Sunak was at Winchester as a boarder or he attended as a day pupil

IClaudine · 12/06/2024 09:41

He would have boarded. Day pupils are a new thing apparently.

DuncinToffee · 12/06/2024 09:58

I am sure he didn't board, remember having a discussion on that with Clav.

Reminds me of the Fawlty Towers scene ...

Sybil: "Chefs from Dorchester"
Guest: "He worked at the Dorchester ?!"
Sybil: "No, in Dorchester. About 14 miles away"

According to their website it is boy's boarding only up until sixth form, when they accept girls and day pupils.

Maybe Clav's links were confused then Grin

Makes the D day gaffe even more baffling as I assume that they would have commemorated that sort of stuff if they had cadet type stuff that he theoretically would have had to be involved in.

Shouting at a foghorn more like.

@DuncinToffee - the clip where he apologises for bring late ftom the 80th Anniversary DDay Celebrations. Wow! He sounds as though he was at a primary school Xmas panto: ' yeah, it was great, it just ran over, sorry'.

We are now +1 week from the "mistake" and it still isn't going away anytime soon.

This really is his bigotgate isn't it ? Even his media mates (if he has any, I am doubting it now) can't shift the dial on this one. Even everything else that has happened over this news cycle hasn't really made it go away.

I knew Brexit would be the end of the Tories. But I never imagined it would be so ... soothing.

Winchester College has its own War Cloister to commemorate these things.

Bit embarrassing that ex students don't realise the value of these things.

With the Conservative campaign heading up to the North East this morning aaaaand the train the Tories suggested journos take was cancelled this morning.

Which, quite frankly, is the most predictable start to a rail journey in the UK…

It might have been the Media Show on radio 4 yesterday, some programme I joined anyway, was suggesting that Sunak hasn't really made friends with newspaper editors whereas Farage very much has.

This is why we need privatised railways. With an efficiently run public railway system, the journalists would have made it and there is no way that any self respecting Tory fan would want journalists anywhere near Rish!.

Again, a lack of knowing your history.

Lenin and Mussolini ensured that their train ran on time.

Winchester College is my neighbour. It has long links with the military, often see the boys heading off to cadet training, this small city is full of the officer class, there are no less than 7 military museums here. It is absolutely impossible that Sunak can be unaware of the importance of D Day and he therefore made a choice. Me first; everyone and everything else, later. Deeply unimpressive.

But refreshingly honest. And unambiguous. Surely what we need from our politicians ?
