Loving the new title.

But just caught up with old thread and will catch this one up later

Cat tax. Two of mine caught discussing Sunak's plan. They're thinking of staging a coup.

Interesting thread currently on Twitter to name three Tories you wouldn't mind retaining their seats.

Caroline Nokes far and away the most named MP.

Yet derided on MN.

She is followed by Alicia Kearns.

And then various wags are saying the MP for Clacton, and Rishi Sunak to make him suffer...

I forget who half of them are. So many are interchangeable. Got moved around in ministries etc. All the moderates who had personalities got shafted over Brexit obviously. Then most the red wall MPs are unmemorable and only get noticed because they are involved in a scandal.

I mean I wouldn't recognise Mel Stride if I fell over him.

Meanwhile, a crystal clear example of the problems of doing things "the British way", where you nick one piece of a system, and the wonder why you can't get the whole cake. Not a problem confined to the Tories.

A change from the cat tax. Here are two insects shagging.

Finland also has a much lower inequality index and motoring fines increase relative to income.

And as expected our incumbent Tory MP failed to get selected in a safer seat and has slunk back tail between his legs to stand here again. Oh kicking him out is going to be sweet!

Got your party drinks and snacks planned yet?

mibbelucieachwell · 06/06/2024 16:43

lol at " 2 insects shagging".

I agree that Alicia Kearns seems knowledgeable, sensible and professional.

I'm really sorry Caroline Lucas is standing down. So articulate, professional and ethical. And not shouty or self-promoting.

SerendipityJane · 06/06/2024 16:48

Our incumbent Labour MP has a 99% chance of winning, with Conservative at 1%.

So, to be frank, the "leaders" "debates" are of no interest to me. And the ones with leaders who aren't even covering England less so. I am not so gripped by UK politics that whatever Plaid or the SNP have to say can affect my vote.

In fact I would question the usefulness of these so called debates anyway. In our parliamentary system, they simply make no sense. Except to possible confuse the people who think you really do vote for the PM. They are [yet] another example of an inappropriate US practice.

InMySpareTime · 06/06/2024 16:54

@IClaudine those insects are lily beetles. They will decimate your plants and are one of very few insects on my "kill on sight" list.

IClaudine · 06/06/2024 16:57

Thank you! I just looked them up. Off to kill them!

DH is off work the next day and DD will be in school so we're going to pull as close to an all nighter as we can! So probably about half 1 😂😂

L1ttledrummergirl · 06/06/2024 17:22

No cat today, have a slow worm instead.

Thanks for the thread.

Popcorn, pizza, chips, cake, ice cream :)

MrsMurphyIWish · 06/06/2024 17:49

I think it’ll bedtime as normal for me. Not sure I can cope with a late night, dropping DS off at breakfast club at 7.30 and then off to teach on a few hours sleep is a good idea. Plus it’s DD’s birthday the 5th and I have teenage girls staying over that night 😬 I’ll have the election snacks and wine then!

user8800 · 06/06/2024 17:54

I'm not sure re: drinks...probably Prosecco, port for dh, Whiskey for ds1...

cardibach · 06/06/2024 17:56

Thought I’d pay cat tax of the dear departed Cordelia, easily the most beautiful cat in the world before her untimely death from a heart condition caused by over breeding - she was a rescue from a dodgy breeder (as is my surviving cat). She was a physical representation of what happens when profit is the only goal 💔

Dips, chicken nuggets, chips, pizza, quiche, salad, sweeties and cake. Soft drinks and champagne on ice hoping there will be reason to drink it 🥂
