How to incentivise 18 year olds to go out and vote Confused

And to demonstrate to them that political policies do impact on them Wink

That's an absolute gift to Labour.

A massive one.

IClaudine · 11/06/2024 13:52

In 2010 we inherited an economy in tatters, with Labour admitting themselves there was ‘no money’

From Sunak's introduction to the manifesto. 🤬🤬🤬

The introduction also reads as though a different party ran the country up until 2020.

If the Tories get in and impose further cuts on the NHS then I truly feel many will not live to see the General Election.

In the last fortnight, my friend’s mother in law has had a stroke caused by a heart condition she has been waiting for surgery on for 18 months, there was a funeral for a lady who died waiting for surgery and a young mother told me this morning that she has been waiting since December for a colonoscopy. This is just in my small church’s congregation.

There are queues down the high street for GP appointments at 8am as it takes so long to get through on the phone and all the appointments are gone by then. I don’t know anyone who has an NHS dentist and there is not one taking patients in the entire county.

If Rishi Long Stockings and his band of idiots think we want NI cuts and more austerity to pay for them, then they are even more stupid than they have made themselves look so far.

The important matter of the day is that Stamer says he would not use private healthcare to get ahead in these queues that you are describing, which shows how callous and lying he is, because everyone who is selfish, believes everyone else to be just as selfish, so they can't believe someone would look out for others.

The trouble being that they didn’t deliver on the 2019 promises, so nobody will believe the 2024 promises.

Evenstar · 11/06/2024 14:58

And there are qualified GP’s who are out of work 🙄

SerendipityJane · 11/06/2024 15:20

You have to be a bit dim to think that hiring more people (which I notice is where the details peter out) just "drives up productivity".

This is the same logic that tells us if a 747 loses one engine and takes 25% longer to make a journey, 2 engines takes 50% longer, 3 engines 75% longer, then a 747 with no engines will take twice as long to make the journey.

Having to explain that to an SLT member without being rude is a challenge.

Bigcoatlady · 11/06/2024 15:29

I think that's meant to be read disjunctively not conjunctively. Sunak was making this point in his interview last night - the NHS workforce has increased but per capita productivity has decreased for many reasons (I can confirm out of date IT systems are a big one as an NHS employee). So we can both recruit more of the staff AND drive up productivity its not recruit staff to increase productivity because as you say that makes no sense.

The big issue is most of the system issues we have which reduce staff productivity are also really expensive to fix and have not been budgeted for. Its much easier to say we'll hire x number of nurses than address the massive cost of capital investment. Which is why they promised it in 2019 and didn't deliver

I find it interesting how many MNers insinuate he is lying. If he was the Tory press would have found out by now.

Emily Thornbury confirmed on Politics Live that anyone who knows Starmer knows he was telling the truth. She would absolutely use private healthcare but there's no way Starmer would.

Piggywaspushed · 11/06/2024 16:38

Now now tiddles... we all know if you start our sentence Emily Thornberry that it's a terrible and dreadful thing that Labour have done.

On a separate note, I can't believe Starmer but Corbyned! I know. I know it's pragmatism but it does make me (a Labour member who joined during Corbyn) feel like telling him to fuck off by voting Green

tobee · 11/06/2024 17:56

So any more on Farage not doing the Panorama interview? I mean why isn't he doing it? Can't he defend his appeasement loving colleague? Or is he unable to call it out and chuck out the support for him from the Party? Sorry Nigel Farage's business?

dontcallmelen · 11/06/2024 18:16

I wonder if Jaywick or other areas of deprivation have received any funds?
channel four lineup looks very good, I’ve excused my self from dgd’s nursery & school pick up on the fifth of July.

Yep.
🙄
Corbyn has hit back as they must have known he would
It strikes me as similar to the DA debacle....just not necessary and labour in the headlines for the wrong reasons 🤷

user8800 · 11/06/2024 18:39

IFS being very tactful on the mad tax pledges in the tory manifesto 🤣🤣

Agree that it was a dumb move. There were good ideas in that manifesto.

I see Sunak is planning to persecute people with poor mental health to pay for his tax cuts.

Agree on both counts, I liked a lot of the Corbyn manifesto a lot of it was actually very sensible & could have made a huge difference to peoples lives.
