It's the person getting extremely aerated about the dreadful junior doctors going on politically motivated strikes and getting very upset at the idea of an "backdoor coalition deal" Confused, not answering direct questions and keeping on repeating their statements with more and more emphasis Grin as if that will persuade those that disagree with him or her that I've had to sit on my hands about and/or be circumspect in what I say Hmm.

I'm not going to mention his or her name, as like the Candyman, they might appear here Wink

I've just read about Sunak sacking off the D-Day world leaders event. I am honestly gobsmacked. What on earth was he thinking. How can someone be so disconnected from the society they were born and raised in that they don't instinctively know how abhorent this choice was.

Insisting teenagers do national service for a year to give back to the nation, but refuses to give up a few hours of his own time to give back to those who gave up everything for the country.

Sorry, but I fucking hate him.

You absolutely do, but the good fight is being fought.

On the junior doctors' strike thread I am persisting in making my point in a polite and not at all passive aggressive way. Grin Democracy matters after all.

Is Sunak really badly advised, surely someone would have said you need to be there, does he not listen, or has he like Johnson surrounded himself only with those who agree with him?

I ve "enjoyed" arguing with whoever that poster, who shall not be named, is.

Very irate about 150k missed appointments but not too bothered about 7.5m on waiting lists & people dying due to IT failures, caused by under funding.

I assure you, some twats really like the National service idea.

Not their kids or grandkids, obviously, but for lesser other kids.

Bastards.

Sunak doesn't care about the UK, or its history, you surely don't need to be told not to be fully involved at the D-Day remembrance celebrations, is a bad idea.
Wanting to be there should be automatic.

Quite, someone i know was in full support of NS, i pointed it out that it would include her 13yo grandson eventually, she replied "would it? i hadn't thought of that... no its a terrible idea"

Notonthestairs · 06/06/2024 20:21

Bit like university courses. They don't mean their kids should be dissuaded from going to university - they mean yours.

(And I'm very interested in apprenticeships and would like more thoughtful investment in it).

I know...
It's fine for others
My tory voting mil will love this idea. Until she realises her beloved gc will be involved.

Hi Prettybird - I was commenting on pretty much the same thing - lots of new posters feigning an interest in Reform Ltd etc...

Anyway, just saw this on twitter for the "knows what a woman is" crowd...

Hahahaha

Piggywaspushed · 06/06/2024 20:26

Hallelujah, they are actually talking in detail about social care on QT.

RafaistheKingofClay · 06/06/2024 20:31

Did see an interesting point from someone from Finland when the NS policy was announced. The Finnish see Nat Service as teaching kids to fight and kill because they have a border with Russia and needing to defend the country is a real possibility. The British see it as some sort of boot camp where they’ll be taught to polish their shoes properly and follow orders. It’s probably not a million miles away from the truth.

Piggywaspushed · 06/06/2024 20:46

Oh, now we're But Walesing.

At the risk of sounding a bit gammony, do you think it's connected to both parents being immigrants? He doesn't have the tales of grandad going off to fight in France, or grandma working in the ammo factory, or Uncle Albert being killed on a beach in Normandy.

ElectiveAffinities · 06/06/2024 20:55

I’m yet again scrambling for the means to pay the cat tax so here’s a red squirrel.

Sunak's D-Day thing is just 😲

A fucktonne of Indians fought in both wars for the British. There's a hall devoted to their history in Birmingham Museum.

Notonthestairs · 06/06/2024 21:00

I think it's more to do with CCHQ freaking out over Reform rather than anything else.

Very poor form though.

There is still a month of campaigning- whatever it was should have waited.

Yes I know. But I've yet to hear a peep out of him about it. So given his preponderance for mentioning his parents service, I assume his relatives did not serve during the war.

There was a great story about a South Asian female resistance fighter on this morning’s Woman’s Hour.
