So true. My friend is an arts lecturer in a local uni and their department has been stripped to bare bones.

Notonthestairs · 29/05/2024 08:53

Piggywaspushed · 29/05/2024 08:47

The latter.MN Posts on HE often suggest many people have a real issue with YP who ate not stellar accessing HE. They should all be plumbing or something . The arts are particularly derided.

Yes - they are going to replace the - never actually named - courses with apprenticeships.

Notonthestairs · 29/05/2024 08:53

NEW. The Labour Party has EXTENDED its lead over the Conservatives, according to the first exclusive YouGov poll of the campaign for Sky News

The Great Britain poll - conducted on Mon and Tue this week - puts Labour on 47%, the Tories on 20%, Reform on 12%, the LibDems on 9% and Greens on 7%.

The government appear to hate a whole swath of the electorate, especially the young the sick the poor & the vulnerable etc etc……
very disappointed with the outcome for Diane Abbot, very spiteful.

DuncinToffee · 29/05/2024 08:59

Re Diane Abbott, Peston is reporting that she was planning to announce her retirement after getting the whip restored but the Times article turned it into a right mess

It would be good to think that this might make all the newly minted 18 year olds to get out there and vote. C'mon people, we need you!

A couple of ex colleagues who still work in Adult education have said there seems to be an appetite for it.

I was also amused last night by the thread "What's your election night plans". The appearance of the entire population of MN being private schoolistas certainly didn't square with the amount of people planning a PAARRRTTTYYYY !!!!!

Victoria Derbyshire, "Look at what you're doing to young people.. You're going to force them to do National Service.. You've tripled their tuition fees.. You froze the threshold at which they have to start paying back their student loan.. You've extended the student loan repayment terms from 30 to 40 years.. Meaning many graduates will be paying off their debts in their 60s.. You've invested only a third of what was recommended by the catch up tsar to help kids catch up after the pandemic.. Rents rose nearly 9% in the last year.. And houses at their most expensive since 1876.. Have the Tories got a problem with young people?"

Mark Harper, "No, not at all"

Piggywaspushed · 29/05/2024 09:05

Oh, no, it has to be Laura the K. Pissing in our boots and telling us it's raining.

I don’t think it matters who does it, incisive interview skills won’t be needed that night. I’m happy it’s Kuenssberg, the sight of her devastated little face will be an added bonus.

What was the Thick Of It quote ?

"A face like you're licking piss off a nettle"

We are not going to say which courses we consider unworthy in case we piss off those voters.

Kay: Which courses would be deemed Mickey Mouse degrees under a Tory Govt?

Education Minister @DamianHinds : It's not for politicians to point to this one or that one

Kay: That's exactly what you're doing...

It's almost as if they are making it up on the hoof.

I bet newsagents around CCHQ have run out of Rizlas now the fag packets must have gone.

SerendipityJane · 29/05/2024 09:22

Also, spending more time on this horseshit than it deserves, I see it's another brainwave that needs an "Office for" to oversee it. Because that has worked so well in the past.

L1ttledrummergirl · 29/05/2024 09:25

Dd actually said to me yesterday that if we were on holiday on the 4th July that we would all need postal votes.

She is my least political child and this election is very much on her radar, and that of her friends.

And that's with the big announcements from the Rishster.

I am beginning to wonder if Labour could seriously reach 50%. Which would be unheard of in the UK - although Putin wouldn't bat a eyelid.

a French hoodie as well, tut tut, mon dieu

Lol at The Sun. A £50 3 Lions hoodie is ok, though? Because 3 Lions, I expect.
Also lol at an anorak with a detachable hood that costs £500, but he can wear what he wants.
I hope they do a companion piece about the cost of Rees Mogg’s and Mini Mogg’s tailored greatcoats. Bet they cost more than £500.

I bet we can fill an entire thread that night!

Scruffily · 29/05/2024 09:53

If the Sun is still Tory supporting, it is getting ever more out of line with its readership. It must feel really schizophrenic working there.

Scruffily · 29/05/2024 09:55

I do hope the national service issue comes up on Tuesday. It'll be fascinating to watch Sunak blustering and squirming his way around that one.
