Will be amazed if we get to polling day with inheritance tax left untouched. Suspect promise to abolish will be centrepiece of Conservative manifesto,

x.com/lewis_goodall/status/1795215191933637028?s=46&t=Uw4lJNwxFZFnX0Xs3doHYg

Sounds about right.
Will cost the Government £7 billion - but never mind the public services.
Largely benefit London and SE.
And only paid by 4% of deaths.

Do we believe him?

Nope. But he won't be here to be held to account for lying so he doesn't care.

itsgettingweird · 28/05/2024 04:54

The question I keep asking to every response of "well pay for it by clamping down on tax avoidance" is

"Why haven't you don't that the past 14 years?"

MrTiddlesTheCat · 28/05/2024 05:56

Clamping down on tax avoidance by whom? Obviously won't be tory donors or Prime Minister's wives, or ministers who accidentally forget to declare stuff.

Zonder · 28/05/2024 06:39

Clamping down on tax avoidance by Rayner maybe? Even though that is just their overactive imaginations.

I had wondered if that's what they were getting at.

All £1500 if she's found guilty.

That'll fill a pothole for a week!

Morning all. Just dropping in to shout at Sunak. You've already got the pensioners vote, you silly man. £100 a year is not enough to persuade anyone to love you more. Thankfully.

BIossomtoes · 28/05/2024 08:23

I think he’s spooked because he can’t take the grey vote for granted any more. Belatedly it’s dawning on him that pensioners are turning against him. If he really wanted to get them back he’d do something about the NHS.

MrTiddlesTheCat · 28/05/2024 08:25

They can use their £100 a year to pay for prescription delivery rather than forcing 18 year olds to do it for free.

DuncinToffee · 27/05/2024 22:39

"Paid for by clamping down on tax avoidance" 😂

Does that mean that Sunak is offering to pay a proper rate of tax on his income?

IClaudine · 28/05/2024 08:31

Any pensioner who is already planning not to vote Tory isn't going to be swayed by this. Not even the ones who are planning to vote Reform.

The poorest pensioners won't benefit as Pension Credit isn't taxable anyway.

Quite.

Explanation from Ben Chu

https://x.com/BenChu_/status/1795206142504685772

What’s happening with this new Conservative party proposal of “Triple Lock Plus”/"Quadruple lock"?

It’s essentially a proposal to reverse a planned tax rise for pensioners from this Government (while pushing on with the tax rise for everyone else)

Let’s explain...

It is a slower flip flop than they did on National Service. Which policies have Tories not flipped flop on.

Is it any wonder Tory MPs and ministers are on holiday and not campaigning, the policy they try and campaign on could change without warning.

newnamethanks · 28/05/2024 08:34

Smoke and mirrors, as per.

IClaudine · 28/05/2024 08:42

I hope Mogg loses his seat just for doing this to his son, trying to turn him into a mini Mogg. Despicable. Look at the poor boy's face. Who other than the Royals dresses their kids like this?

SerendipityJane · 28/05/2024 08:46

I'd have more faith in Sunak staying if he categorically promised he was going to California.

The Tories have basically slashed'n'burned their own core vote. This is what happens when you take them for granted. And a mass awakening isn't something you can wave away with some cheesy soundbite.

Given there's a cycle in politics, maybe it turns when the "core vote" suddenly realised that they are bottom of the queue for everything from their party of choice. After all, if someone is happy to announce to the world they "always vote Tory" then why in Gods name would you do anything to buy that vote ? I know I wouldn't. I'd take that free vote (cheers dear) and actually spend my money on people who weren't going to vote for me. Which is basically the last 14 years.

RafaistheKingofClay · 28/05/2024 08:58

Feel like lots of things would be much better if the government had had an extra 84 billion to spend over the last 14 years.

The only thing being up £6billion a year does when they mention it is raise the issue of why they didn’t do something before given money was allegedly so tight.

💯% makes it even worse that they chose not to, the cruelty & pain inflicted the wanton destruction of all services & resources making peoples lives so much more difficult than they ever needed to be, I truly hope they combust & become an irrelevance as a political party.

mibbelucieachwell · 28/05/2024 09:45

One of the many things I can't resist shouting at the telly whenever Mogg's on it is, 'Get a jacket that fits you n the shoulders - you can afford it.' I see his son is also being made to wear a coat that's too big on the shoulders GrinGrinGrinGrinGrin

Ahh you gotta laugh at the little things.

itsgettingweird · 28/05/2024 09:51

Looks like a scene from The Adam's Family

the80sweregreat · 28/05/2024 10:24

Maybe Jacob Rees Mogg's son's nanny or whoever bought him a coat he could ' grow into '. Even the mega rich like a bargain.

DuncinToffee · 28/05/2024 10:58

I notice there are a lot of threads about private school VAT

https://x.com/Samfr/status/1795376680334495932

The "major report" on parents quitting private schools that the Daily Mail splash on today is a survey by Baines Cutler, a for-profit consultancy whose entire business is providing financial advice for private schools. Conflicted much?

Laughable.
