From twitter

Training your children to fight in war: £2.5bn
Keeping doctors in the NHS: £1bn

Sunak's priorities are clear.
National H̵e̵a̵l̵t̵h̵ Service.

It’s better than that. You won’t get either, just a suitably pissed off younger generation with no military or health service.

I’m sure Starmer will privatise what’s left of the NHS once he gets in.

IClaudine · 26/05/2024 14:14

I have just caught up with the Farage interview. I think he should be charged with inciting racial hatred.

fabio12 · 26/05/2024 14:16

I also hope someone has told the farmers - after all this was meant to be where the equivalent for EU subsidies were coming from too...

Yes, deliberately didn't share it earlier. What a grimey little racist he is.
I don't know why he's given the airtime - he's more interested in the US than the UK (and they are welcome to him).

IClaudine · 26/05/2024 14:18

Good call not to share it. I did think about it, but decided best not to.

AdamRyan · 26/05/2024 14:23

Just googled it - wtf? Not just islamophobic, also racist to just about everyone. How can he bring himself to say that to Sir Trevor Phillips

Well it is his swansong.

I really don't understand why he is still getting so much air time Confused

He's already said he's not going to be standing and instead will be concentrating on Trump's re-election EnvyHmm

Don't complain. He's using up oxygen the Tories could use.

Did you hear Dead Ringers on Friday?

The section at the end where they have Nick Robinson interview Caroline Lucas and she's angry because she is only being interviewed at the end when she leaves

Farage says controversial things and it gets clicks and generates controversy.

And yet, this was the official position as of Thursday!

No he won’t. Don’t be daft.

There are no plans to sell it off. He’s vocal in support. . Blair didn’t either. And all the stuff about Starmer U turning is over exaggerated, mainly being about things he’s quite sensible has to say can no longer be afforded since the Tories have trashed the country’s financial situation.

fabio12 · 26/05/2024 15:01

ShambalaAnna · 26/05/2024 14:57

I don't know if you have actually had any dealings with your GP or A&E recently, but if you think the Tories are doing a brilliant job, you may want to take a look at some threads on the matter.

That’s not what I said. You don’t have to “sell it off” to let private capital ruin it. Thought that was abundantly clear these days.

This is Wes Streeting’s current plan, to utilise more private components within the NHS.

There must be a name for the logical fallacy you just committed. Let me just go look it up.

Notonthestairs · 26/05/2024 15:03

I guess some voters would prefer to see the waiting lists lengthened.

7.5 waiting currently.
92,000 waiting longer than 65 weeks.

You used the word ‘privatise’. That’s selling off.
The plan is to utilise private capacity to reduce waiting lists. Perfectly sensible. How else do you think they can be brought down in the short term? Not privatisation, not letting anyone ruin anything - rather trying to resurrect it fro: it’s current ruin.
You should watch the play Nye about the creation of the NHS to appreciate what compromise can achieve.

Notonthestairs · 26/05/2024 15:05

Sorry, that is 7.5 million on waiting lists.

IClaudine · 26/05/2024 15:07

ShambalaAnna · 26/05/2024 14:57

The problem is, no one can quickly reverse the 14 years of mismanagement and neglect of the NHS. Leaving people languishing on waiting lists is good for no-one. If that means utilising the private sector for a while, then so be it. It is not ideal, there are pros and cons, but I am not sure what other option there is in the short term. It will take years to build up the staff numbers, equipment, infrastructure, etc.

Blair/Brown did the same and by the end of their term the NHS, while in no way perfect, was in good shape in terms of waiting lists, a&e wait times, cancer survival etc.

No. It isn’t.

You just need to enable more integration with private sector parties, you don’t just hand the keys to GE Healthcare of Aviva or something. They’ve done this in literally every public institution we have, and it’s never a good sign to introduce profit seeking entities into a public good.

Go ask the military.

Who has? It wasn't Labour who flogged off all our national assets.

Labour is not advocating handing the keys of the English NHS over to anyone.
