Thanks for new thread.

My Dobro had me and ds in hysterics yesterday.

Ds obviously can vote now for first time and did in locals and he asked what young people nowadays are looking for in politics and what way they are voting.

Ds was chatting about railways etc and it was clear DB wasn't impressed they are quite a left wing bunch and said as much without saying it.

So I piped up that the problem most people had in my constituency wasn't really left v right but more to vote Tory (even if Tory) you are voting for Braverman and her personal politics didn't sit right with anyone centrist or right centre really.

He could not understand this as we vote for the PM. Even when ds and I tried to explain its FPTP and you vote for constituency MP and Monarch forms the government based on seats etc. He was adamant we were wrong. I screenshot the actual gov page for ds to show him next time if he brings it up again!

And I was so proud that a 19yo understood the system better than a man in his late 30's and whilst terrified that was the case it reassured me the future of politics is probably in good hands!

I see the plan is still working. Great polling bounce from telling us we weren’t safe.

I love the tax period of these threads.

And we actually pay our tax too, unlike some.

Just out walking the dog and overheard a woman on the phone saying "this country is getting worse, you can't even drink the water any more, I'm telling you it's getting worse"
That's the sort of perception the Tories have built going into the next election. They are screwed, regardless of how it might appear on here

BREAKING: The High Court rules that the Government's anti-protest legislation is unlawful, in a major victory for campaigners Liberty

The Court found Suella Braverman had lowered the threshold for police to intervene to even cover protests with 'normal' levels of disruptio

The news comes shortly ahead of the government's 'anti-extremism advisor' publishing a new report today which is set to recommend even more draconian restrictions on the right to protest

The High Court agreed with Liberty that the Government had unlawfully extended the definition of "serious disruption" to cover protests which only caused normal, or minor levels of disruption.

They also agreed that those affected by the law had not been properly consultedn.

Bloody lefty courts, thwarting the Will of Braverman The People again

MissMarplesNiece · 21/05/2024 11:49

The Government's "anti extremism advisor" , Lord Walney, who resigned from Labour Party after sending inappropriate texts and messages to a staff member. Resigning meant there was never a proper investigation. Makes me sick these people get seats in the House of Lords and then get to tell us what we can and can't do - posing as respectable but really a dirty old man.

As you move towards the extremes - left or right - you see the idea that laws only apply to the masses emerges. There are always plenty of specious reasons why the law cannot apply to those in power.

Just seen that Cameron has negotiated for Gibraltar to be in the Schengen zone. Brits trying to enter the British territory will be turned away if they don't meet EU entry requirements.

What a win. Brexit still delivering.

Ever tried explaining the House of Lords to a foreigner ? I had to once years ago when the news had a story on the wireless radio at work. Poor Swiss chap just gave up in the end. He refused to believe that you became a lord because of who your Dad was.

It was a bit of an existential moment, as his English was flawless. Would pass as a native. But he ruefully accepted he'd never understand the English.

Hmmm. Who could have predicted it?

Do you think he feels shame when he has to say things like this?

Meanwhile the UK is pleading with the EU not to introduce the rules the EU has created.
