Or for watching with your mum, @DandyDandylion
😂😂😂 There is a particular scene (will try to be discreet here) in which I had to explain the very handsome man was trying not to get his wife pregnant iykwim. Only saw the first season but will need to re-watch. It is really well done, esp with how pop music is incorporated. 👍
Death, had a little chuckle at your post. I'm such a lightweight in that area, I'd only need a gew sips to feel it. 😂 I've bern mulling over getting a nice bottle of wine one evening, but god with two little ones I wouldn't survive any after effects!
Just finishing breakfast then off to gymnastics. Last day til fall. Last days of school was on Friday, too.

mathanxiety · 18/06/2024 00:30

I finally gave in last evening and turned on the AC. It's hot and humid (about 38C) and the coming week will be the same. The heat really saps my energy, so I'm going to have a cup of tea even though its late afternoon.

Dcat managed to get a cut ear infected, so she now has antibiotic ear drops that I'm supposed to administer. She's having none of it.

Penguinsa · 18/06/2024 00:46

Glad you are getting better Havoc Gardening was from 5.30pm to 8.30pm.

Greece sounds nice Death as long as you can go out of the super high heat or stay in the water. DD is off to Kefalonia with her boyfriend soon.

DD has been working doing punting tours of the May Ball fireworks tonight and just got back very late.

DD took DH out for Father's Day for a meal and they picked up his cake.

Penguinsa · 18/06/2024 00:46

Sorry about Dcat Math and good luck with that.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 18/06/2024 05:48

Math, it's humid here, too, but not hot like you have there. 😳 And your poor cat!!! Hope dcat is better soon.
That's a lot of gardening, Penguinsa! I need to get into mine, but rain lately has put me off. I envy your dd going to Greece! I love it there! Didn't go to Kefalonia, but up to Corfu and a couple islands down south/south-west. Excellent food, esp fish.

Just had a slice of chocolate hazelnut cake from True Confections I brought home to sample. It was very good! 😋 Rich, but not super sweet. 👍
Took Havoc there as a treat after gymnastics today to celebrate certificate rec'd (everyone got one). Mummy is always up to celebrate with cake! If I don't make a cake then that will be the one I order for baby's 6-month celebration 🎂

DandyDandylion · 18/06/2024 06:54

Mmm, Havoc that cake sounds delicious, I hate it when they make chocolate cake super sweet. It totally takes away from the chocolate which should be the main man.
Do you have someone to help with the ear drops Math? I’m not sure I could do much with mine without someone to hold them down. Has anyone read the James Herriot books? He talks about ‘wrapping’ cats in towels to make it possible to do give medicine without being scratched. Though my dcats would be mortally offended by such outrageous treatment.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 18/06/2024 13:02

It's 5am. Been awake since getting up with baby at 3:30. Listening to a second podcast now.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 18/06/2024 14:02

Still awake. Teeth brushed. Have now had something to eat: chicken in 1/2 croissant. Havoc woke up, so diaper has been changed and milk given. I've been searching milk frothers on Amazon, but am overwhelmed by choices. Would make coffee and just get on with it, but need to be able to foam milk. Obviously. Oh, am using new phone. Got another iPhone, the 15. And another charger was needed, of course. 😡 So, also needed a new one for the car, of course. 🤬

eta very angry face and change "mew" to "new" in case anyone might think I'm actually a cat. Or am I...
😼

MissConductUS · 18/06/2024 16:14

Math, your heat wave has arrived on the east coast today, and will be with us for the rest of the week. Sorry to hear about your cat. Cats hate having their ears touched or messed with in any way.

Penguinsa, I hope your DH had a nice Father's Day. We had cupcakes to celebrate with my DH. And cards and presents, of course.

Havoc, I have an iPhone 15 Pro and love it. I spent the extra on the Pro because it has the 3x zoom lens for the camera, which is perfect for all of the wildlife pictures I take at the reservoir. It was handy for DD's graduation and the wedding too.

Speaking of cats, I walked into the family room yesterday, and both of mine looked at me like I had two heads, so I took a picture of them. The little ginger boy likes to hide in that cabinet on the left. I've put an old cushion in there for him to lie on. My front garden is liking the warm weather, and the cactus has perked up nicely. The cactus flowers will probably open in a few weeks.

@Mumtobabyhavoc

I am usually not much of a drinker and rarely drink at home unless it is Christmas (when I might buy a few of those little mixed cans - you know G&T or Vodka lime and soda) and also my birthday - a few days after Christmas. Hence my squiffyness!!

@Penguinsa

I have been to Crete and Kephalonia before. Don't mind where I go really. I know it might be hot. When in Crete I only went on one excursion (to the former leper colony) and spent the rest of the time walking around or in the pool!

culturevulture1984 · 18/06/2024 17:54

I had annual appt with consultant today.
It went well.
I went to the office afterwards but work was slow (and I didn't really feel like it anyway).

On the bus home and planning a quiet evening.

MissConductUS · 18/06/2024 19:52

Welcome, @culturevulture1984, and thanks for sharing your medical appointment and calm afternoon at work news. I seem to have an endless stream of medical appointments these days.

I'm an American, and despite my years on MN I still find myself momentarily confused when someone says they saw the consultant. There's no comparable medical role here other than possibly a specialist.

I've made a pudding this evening for tomorrow to get a bit ahead (Wednesdays are always manic). Bread and butter pudding, made with some brioche fingers that needed using up, a layer of thinly sliced apples in the middle and a sprinkle of cinnamon. I'm hungry now Grin

mathanxiety · 18/06/2024 22:20

I managed to get some drops into Dcat's ear, yay! Thanks to the heat, she was almost comatose, and I approached her with a little tuna to distract her. The vet told me to just stick the nozzle as far as I could into Dcat's ear and give a little squeeze. She's supposed to get two drops, but I have to work fast, and apparently it's OK to be very approximate as long as she gets some in her ear every day.

mathanxiety · 18/06/2024 22:21

Bread and butter pudding with apples and cinnamon sounds delicious, Iwandered.

IWanderedLonely · 19/06/2024 22:42

Pudding was very well received Smile
I took 2 youngest grandchildren out today in a double pushchair (cousins 10 weeks age difference) fine apart from DGS pulling DGD's hair every few minutesConfused

Mumtobabyhavoc · 19/06/2024 22:56

How brave Iwandered! Did you try to do anything else with them? I was out with my two today and it was a constant attempt to keep track of socks, sunnies and sweater.

Umanresources · 19/06/2024 23:48

Went out for lunch with friends, sausage barm cake (although I’d asked for bacon barm cake). Came home and managed to vacuum the living room and clean and polish the TV table. Also got some goblets like the ones they have on The Traitors at the round table. I think they are rather lovely, but probably not to everyone’s taste. They are rather hefty glass.

Happy days are here again
The skies above are clear again

sproutsandparsnips · 20/06/2024 09:32

Umanresources what is a barm cake? Those goblets are very pretty though I don't think I would like to drink from them!
Excellent news about the milk frother Havoc! Coffee solves most things I find.....
Day off today, I think I shall go swimming and then do the shopping. Two loads of washing on the go, one in the machine and one on the line. I am off next week and have an exciting week planned. Haircut, opticians and dentist as well as a trip to the tip.

Umanresources · 20/06/2024 13:26

@sproutsandparsnips this is a barm cake, which is actually bread, not cake. It's like the bun for burgers.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barm_cake
It has many names in the UK, flour cakes, baps, oven bottoms, the list goes on 😂
My OH, who comes from the South of the UK was appalled at the thought of a Wigan Kebab, which is really a joke food. He can't bear the thought of carbs on carbs!

Thank you Umanresources!

Penguinsa · 20/06/2024 14:44

DD has last exam at the moment then her and I are off to Borneo so may not have internet access for a while. Flying tonight. Sorry for rushed post but need to leave soon.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 20/06/2024 15:04

Have a good trip, Pemguinsa. 😊
Interesting food, Uman. I had to google that one! Also had to look up "barm." 🤓

Am up a bit early. Havoc woke at 6:30. Ugh.
Gorgeous day for solstice, though! ☀️
Sunset is to be at 9:21pm.

HildaTablet · 20/06/2024 18:09

‘Barm’ is yeast so a barmcake is just a yeasted bread roll - in some parts of the NW of the UK. But if you move a few miles out of that area it’s called something else. I’d call that a barmcake as I happen to come from that area, but there was a thread about this not long ago and it got quite heated, as I recall 😅

DH and I had a day out today - luckily the weather was lovely. We went to the house and studio where the sculptor Henry Moore lived and worked and where many of his sculptures stand in the beautiful grounds surrounding his house (70 acres of land). It’s in a tiny village in the depths of countryside and one of my favourite places to go. I took some pictures for the thread.
