Aww Floof, get well soon handsome boy. 🥰
Penguins, I used to watch that late night, too (for the drama and to see who has the $ for the charter!)
Went to Costco. Was in and out in 45 mins. Have nursed baby, eaten a couple Mandarin oranges and a bunch of grapes. Going to take a bath, wash hair and hopefully get to bed shortly. (As long as baby allows...).
I really need to sleep.

Penguinsa · 05/03/2024 05:56

Thanks Havoc Hope you can get some sleep.

Floof seems a little better, went to check on him and he saw me got out of his wicker hamper said ah-ah a few times and stretched out long for me to admire him then chatted a bit more. Gave him some compliments.

Deathraystare · 05/03/2024 07:58

@Penguinsa

Glad Floof is on the mend. It is hard when our furry friends are ill. Little kids can say they have a tummy ache etc but animals can't. They are just not themselves.

MissConductUS · 05/03/2024 21:17

I finally heard back from the ortho nurse. They want me to come in to review the MRI report and see the images, so I've booked an appointment tomorrow to do so. I already had an appointment to establish care with my new GP in the morning. Unfortunately, they are in different locations, so I will work from home tomorrow.

I am slightly concerned that they didn't say, "Everything's fine, but we'd like you to come in to...". It's probably nothing.

DD's reception venue is having a menu tasting on Palm Sunday. Neither DD or our future SIL can go, so DH, DS and myself will go and give them a report. I'm really looking forward to trying the food. The venue's restaurant, which also does the event catering, recently won a Michelin star, so it should be good.

Miss, hope it's something with an easy fix. 🤞
what's on the menu? 😋

bizzey · 05/03/2024 22:27

Ohh boy ...ohhh boy !!

I hope you are all in the mood for a laugh tonight !!

I have been looking for one of my boots all evening ...well all afternoon actually.

Had to go out so wore my trainers .but didn't want to wear them for my little "holiday " tomorrow, so thought ...it has to be here somewhere!...

Was almost giving up ...though under the stairs has been reorganized!

Then I moved a bag , I had moved at the beginning.....yep !!!!
There it was !! 😮😁😂😂...

I then decided to put a face mask on.
One of those ones that are not cream .. but a thing /film. you open and put on your face .

I knew where they were ...due to my new organisation ! ....but I had been putting off using as I found them uncomfortable...

Well this product opened differently to others I had tried ....and I realized the mistake I had been making ...

The plastic covering is NOT the bit that goes on your face 😂😁😮😮😮.!!!

It is the soft gauze bit !!

Ohh man !
🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️....

I have got 10 mins to go ...and it feels lovely....and not digging in at all 😁.

Nearly ready for tomorrow.
Snacks and lunch prepped for the train .
Short train journey...but travelling time is slap bang in the middle of lunch bracket.

(Door to door ....1-4 type of thing )

We will eat with ds about 7pm ...so need nibbles !!

I am strangely quite organised 😲!

Apart from the stupid indecision of what to wear !

Going to take this thing off now ...and see if I look collegan plumped 😁😂😂😂!!

Miss, hope it's something with an easy fix. 🤞
what's on the menu? 😋

It looks pretty posh. We have to register and each select one first and one main course. We'll share tastes of each other's choices and take pictures for DD.

I'm going to try the shellfish crepe and the chateaubriand.

Ohhh ...I will have soup and salmon please ! 😁😁!

bizzey · 05/03/2024 23:23

Though the Beef is looking tempting...but I don't know what corn grits are ?

The word "grits " is used differently over here !

bizzey · 05/03/2024 23:24

What is ...corn custard ?

MissConductUS · 05/03/2024 23:27

Grits are a porridge made from coarsely ground corn, usually served with butter or cheese. I can take them or leave them. They're a staple starch in the American South. I had to look up corn custard too:

https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/235359/chef-johns-creamy-corn-custard/

Chef John's Creamy Corn Custard

Corn custard is a wonderful side dish for all kinds of meats. Since it is so soft and light, it makes a great foil for things like barbecue pork, grilled steaks, and fried fish.

bizzey · 05/03/2024 23:52

Ahhh interesting!

I suppose your corn custard might be
something like our bread sauce ?

I am sure someone more culinary than me will help me out here !

Corn grit ...just sounds like the stuff you scattered on the floor for chickens and hens !

I love how our different words and interpretations are ...
(And I hope I am not coming across as rude ! )

When I can afford it ..I love trying new foods .

I always make a point in restaurants that I will always eat something off the menu that I would never dream of ,or be able of ( or even know what it is ! ).. ..cooking at home !!

During lockdown I ordered these menu boxes with all the ingredients.

The boys choose which menu they were going to cook !

First time I had ever had black garlic was in one of those boxes !

Didn't even know it existed before 😁.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 06/03/2024 01:01

Bizzey, grits are like the Italian polenta.
my recipe:
1/2c cornmeal
1c chicken stock
stir over medium low
add hot water from kettle slowly, about 1/2c at a time until mixture is thick and grains are soft
add about 1/2c heavy cream
mixture should be loose/somewhat runny
grate in generous amount pecorino and stir
add salt to taste

I plate it by putting a goid half cup in centre of dinner plate; roast chicken/lamb chop on top wirh roasted veggies (I try to be cheffy!)

bizzey · 06/03/2024 01:49

Havoc ..Omg 😮!

I got lost in the recipe 1/2 way through!

But I will look out for it next time I go some where !

Penguinsa · 06/03/2024 01:53

Thanks Death Floof is now much better and eating again and trilling and very cuddly so we have our baby back. 😻

Went swimming with DH who used ear plugs, very busy and just did 80 lengths and jacuzzi but good to go again. Then we got a drive thru McDonalds on request of DD who wanted a McPlant meal. Green and blue bins out and both full so good they are going.

Penguinsa · 06/03/2024 01:55

Hope the MRI results are OK MissC and I would also have the beef but maybe with the scallops for starter but the crepe also sounds great.

bizzey · 06/03/2024 02:14

I forgot to say earlier...Floof ..get better soon 🐾🐾😻😻 !x

mathanxiety · 06/03/2024 03:58

bizzey grit is what you put on roads when it snows, and grits is a porridge made from corn. And hopefully never the twain shall meet!

It's been a while since we had polenta, and I have a little cream to use up, plus a few ends of various cheeses. I also have a few mushrooms.

MissC Thanks so much for the corn custard recipe. I love Chef John's recipes and I think that one would be nice for a special occasion. The wedding menu looks amazing. I don't think your DD can go wrong there.
Hope your MRI review will just be a formality.

penguinsa I hope Floof continues to recover. Iirc bulbs of all kinds can make cats sick - hopefully he didn't nibble on a daffodil or hyacinth.

DD baked chocolate chip cookies this evening and was happy with the increased counter space. The cookies are very tempting, and the kitchen smells like a bakery or a chocolate factory.

We had noisy storms last night and Dcat went to ground again.

Roadwork season has started here - one of the main streets nearby is now festooned with cones and SLOW signs, and traffic everywhere was dire.

Deathraystare · 06/03/2024 13:33

@MissConductUS

Had to smile when you mentioned what grits were as I remember the film My Cousin Vinnie where Joe Pesci is a lawyer er...of sorts) who with his girlfriend watches them being cooked in a whole load of lard! Their faces! Cooking and the timing of grits actually came up in his questions to 'witnesses'. Very funny film.

@Mumtobabyhavoc

That is the lot of a mum I guess. Even when you are ill you still have to look after the rest of the family!! Although my Brother does all the cooking in his family, when he had flu, his son asked his mum who was going to give him his tea? She replied that she would. He thought for a while and then said Oh yes, you can make ham sandwiches! we still tease her about that! She can also do Spaghetti Bolognese apparently!!!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 06/03/2024 14:26

Math, sounds like you have the ingredients for a lovely polenta! I often make it with a roast chicken. It's quite good with gravy over top...😋 Lots of storms your way. Poor cat.
Death, very true. I'm concerned about Havoc atm. Every time I cough Havoc asks, Are you ok, mummy? Has obviously picked up on conversations. Also, Mummy is sick. Are you sick mummy.? Mummy had a virus. Things like that. 🥺
Falling back asleep is proving difficult right now due to coughing and then crackling in my chest. I might call the medical clinic tomorrow. Been awake since 4:15am when I got up with baby. It's now almost 6:30.

MissConductUS · 06/03/2024 18:30

Not great news from the orthopedist. I have a badly herniated C3-C4 disc that needs surgical replacement. And I need to get it done soon before there's damage to the spinal column, so that means trying to get it scheduled before the wedding.

The good news is that I really like this doctor. He does about 100 of these operations a year, and they're done outpatient under propofol. They're very low-risk and should completely resolve the pain and numbness. Now, I need to get cracking to get the MRI results on disk, book an appointment with the neurosurgeon who will assist, and sort out lots of other details.

Blimey, this is not convenient.

Miss, just a step at a time. You sound like you've got a clear plan. 🤞

bizzey · 07/03/2024 00:18

Ohh my goodness Missc ...just what you didn't need right now .....hope it all well..

Tilllly · 07/03/2024 04:56

@bizzey
I'm not a chilli fan but chilli chocolate is nice
There's just a hint to give it an edge

Tilllly · 07/03/2024 05:09

@Penguinsa
So relieved that floof is improving! Yumyum 🐈‍⬛ is currently snoring purring by my side and sends trolls and burbles

I've just slept 4 hours in a row! Pain is there but not unbearable
Cancer has spread to my bones, mainly spine and chest. Not surprised it hurt! Hospital care was erratic - some nurses were brilliant bringing pain relief. Many were not; I'd be lying sobbing in pain and begging, literally begging for morphine, and they'd still be half hour late with it. Truly shocking
